Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 722 - 715: Sudden Accident
Chapter 722: Chapter 715: Sudden Accident
"What exactly are you trying to say?" Lin Wei asked, suppressing his rage. He could tell that Wang Xu was beating around the bush.
"Once Luo’er leaves, Fulajie’er, as the Ghost communication system, will no longer provide message transmission services for the headquarters. Do not think about assigning her to the next advance team, she will not agree." Wang Xu responded.
Upon hearing his words, Lin Wei took a deep breath, and his anger eased slightly. Wang Xu was indeed speaking the truth. People like Fulajie’er were different from the advance team. Although they had numerous connections with headquarters, they could not be commanded like the advance team. Just as Wang Xu had said, once an advance team was withdrawn, the system they had established and the value they had created would be completely dissolved. It wouldn’t be possible to continue serving the next advance team.
"There’s another person named Feng, who is the absolute main force in this mission. She single-handedly closed the Door of Annihilation and killed the monster Naptios that invaded the Otherworld. But this formidable power can only be commanded by Luo’er. She is a member of the advance team recognised by Luo’er, not appointed by us, we have no right to arbitrarily mobilise her, or assign her to any advance team. In other words, once Luo’er’s team is withdrawn, this powerful force will no longer work for us. For the headquarters, this can be considered a huge loss." Wang Xu continued.
"Can’t we send someone to persuade her?" Canmou He asked uncertainly.
"Canmou He, you haven’t been to the Otherworld, have you?" Wang Xu didn’t answer his question but just laughed and asked.
"If you have something to say, just say it. There’s no need to mock me." Canmou He retorted.
"The physical laws in the Otherworld are very different from those on Earth, and many conventional thoughts are also different from ours on Earth. Not everyone will compromise for their own benefit, what I’m sure of is that, other than Luo’er, almost no one can mobilise her." Wang Xu responded.
"Then we..." Canmou He started to speak but stopped midway.
"I know what you want to say, you want to use Luo’er to threaten her to work for us, right? Leaving aside whether or not it’s despicable, firstly, she definitely will not surrender to our threats because, as I said, she only follows Luo’er’s leadership," Wang Xu explained.
"Are you that certain?" Canmou He asked with furrowed eyebrows.
"Certainly," Li Si, who was sitting next to him, nodded and couldn’t help but interject. "I’m the first one among all of you present here who met her. From what I understand about Feng, if you try to threaten her using Luo’er, it may very well backfire."
"In what way?" another deputy asked.
"Here’s a worst-case scenario: if the girl had the power to kill Naptios alone, then she has the power to slaughter the entire forward command as well. I hope everyone here doesn’t always think that earth technology is invincible. Don’t forget, the Otherworld’s home field advantage is magic." Li Si said indifferently.
"I hope all of you understand a principle, that is, the wealth created and the system established by the advance team should belong to the advance team, not naturally belong to the command or even the headquarters. As soon as Luo’er’s team is brought back to earth, we have no right to control the wealth and the system they’ve produced in the Otherworld," Wang Xu added.
Obviously, Wang Xu and Li Si were stating the serious consequences of withdrawing the advance team back to Earth. After all, at this critical juncture, no one wanted anything to go wrong. After hearing the two of them, Lin Wei fell into a long silence.
He did intend to recall all members of Luo’er’s team, but if he did so, there would definitely be a serious lack of fighting power in the forward command, and the system established by the advance team could not be arbitrarily controlled by the headquarters. As a result, the already tight military power of the forward command would definitely become even more scarce.
It seemed that everyone present had made a fundamental mistake, believing that Fulajie’er and Feng, who were auxiliary forces of Luo’er’s team, could be disposed of by the headquarters at will after Luo’er’s team was withdrawn. However, they seemed to forget that these people had no connection to the headquarters at all, so they would never agree to be dispatched by the headquarters.
As Wang Xu said, these people were valuable talents. It wouldn’t be too crucial if we couldn’t get them, but if they defected to the enemy, it would really cost us our lives.
"There’s another issue," Wang Xu continued after a pause, "Just as I returned to Earth, Mr. Yalunte had also arrived at the forward command post."
"Yalunte?" A questioning sound came from the conference room, not everyone knew Yalunte’s identity.
"The Otherworld’s Sword Saint, Yalunte Bramblemead. He’s Cheng Ziang’s father," Wang Xu said, looking at Lin Wei, "Chief, if we recall all members of Luo’er’s team, how should we explain to Mr. Yalunte? He’s a truly meritorious servant who has made significant contributions to the headquarters."
Hearing Wang Xu’s questions, Lin Wei pursed his lips and nodded, finally unable to continue his silence.
"If we recall Luo’er’s team back to Earth at this moment, the system established by Luo’er’s team and the huge wealth it has generated will no longer fall under our jurisdiction. Is that right?" Lin Wei said, glancing at Wang Xu.
"Yes!" Wang Xu nodded in agreement.
"Moreover, if Luo’er’s team was recalled back to Earth, it could possibly incur Yalunte’s displeasure, leading him to turn his back on us. Is that correct?" Lin Wei continued to inquire.
"Absolutely!" Again, Wang Xu nodded affirmatively.
Lin Wei took a deep breath, then said ruefully, "This Luo’er is seemingly quite skilled."
"Recalling Luo’er’s team recklessly, these issues are just superficial ones, there are deeper underlying problems we have not noticed. In short, in my personal opinion, recalling Luo’er’s team definitely poses more disadvantages than advantages." Wang Xu articulated.
"When it comes down to it, you are just worried that the power of your front-line command will be undermined." Canmou He interjected sarcastically.
"Canmou He, so you think the frontline headquarters is not a subordinate department of the general headquarters and the interests of the frontline headquarters do not represent the interests of the general headquarters?" Wang Xu retorted composedly.
"I didn’t say that, but indeed, your frontline headquarters is a bit too independent." Canmou He couldn’t resist a counter-mock.
"Within the scope of authority, the main headquarters allow the front-line headquarters to have a certain degree of autonomy. Has Canmou He never heard of this provision?" Wang Xu refuted.
Just as the duo was arguing, a military officer walked in nervously, paced quickly to Lin Wei’s side, bent down, and whispered a few words into his ear. Upon hearing the news, Lin Wei’s face changed dramatically, and he slapped the table forcefully.
"Bang!"
This loud noise took everyone in the room aback. The air grew so tense that everyone stopped breathing. The arguing duo also closed their mouths, looking towards Lin Wei in disappointment.
The atmosphere in the conference room immediately turned grim. Lin Wei, with squinted eyes, wore a grave expression. No one knew what happened exactly, but none dared to ask aloud.
After a long silence, Lin Wei took a deep breath, then closed his eyes and said, "Just a moment ago, it was reported from The Ninth District that the prisoner Fu’en is dead, a victim of Ricin."
"Fu’en!" Hearing Lin Wei’s words, all the attendees were stirred up into a frenzy.
Everyone was aware that Fu’en was the critical figure for opening the Otherworld Gate. This summoner from Otherworld had been detained by the headquarters in the prison of The Ninth District on the island, ever since he was brought back to Earth. This morning, the guards found him dead in his cell.
"In that case..." Wang Xu muttered to himself, feeling an inexplicable burst of joy.
The headquarters’ decision to recall Luo’er was largely due to Fu’en. Fu’en had once stated that he would open the Otherworld Gate for the headquarters in exchange for clemency for his crimes. Obtaining this, the headquarters would only have to secure Lipei to open the Otherworld Gate directly and initiate the Mingming Plan. This would render the frontline headquarters irrelevant.
However, Fu’en was assassinated, the headquarters had lost its most reliant power, and now has to seek methods to reopen the Otherworld Gate in the otherworld again. So, they have no choice but to depend on the frontline headquarters, they have no choice but to depend on the advance team again.
