Otherworld Advance Team
Chapter 699 - 692: Close the Main Door

Chapter 699: Chapter 692: Close the Main Door

"After tomorrow, we can consider this matter over," Cheng Ziang remarked with emotion.

"Yes," Luo’er nodded.

"I’m suddenly feeling homesick, don’t you want to go back to the academy to have a look?" Cheng Ziang suddenly asked.

"Go back to Haiya Academy?" Luo’er inquired.

"What else?" Cheng Ziang said.

"To be honest, I do miss home, and my grandfather and sister, but I don’t really want to go back," Luo’er pondered for a moment before responding.

"Why?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"I have a feeling," Luo’er glanced at him, then stated seriously, "I always feel that once we return to Earth, we may not have the chance to return to Otherworld anymore."

"Why do you think so?" Cheng Ziang’s expression grew serious.

Luo’er took a deep breath, then began, "My mother is the princess of Ilanadale, the future queen of Ilanadale. And I’m the link between Ilanadale and the headquarters, do you think those higher-ups would still risk letting me go on adventures?"

"So you think, they might put you under house arrest on Earth and prevent you from joining the Advance Team in Otherworld?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"I hope it’s just my paranoia," Luo’er heaved a sigh and shook his head, "But haven’t you noticed that the headquarters doesn’t seem keen on giving us dangerous tasks anymore? The emergence of the Murong Squad isn’t a coincidence."

"But we were part of the virus retrieval mission not long ago," Cheng Ziang remarked earnestly.

"About that task, did you notice Brother Li’s wording? He had a shortage of manpower, so he had no choice but to assign us. In other words, if there were enough people, the task wouldn’t have landed on us," Luo’er eyed him and explained.

"So you mean..." Cheng Ziang seemed hesitant to speak.

"In the future, our share of dangerous missions may gradually decrease. So, cherish the final battle that will come tomorrow," Luo’er shrugged carelessly, and then patted Cheng Ziang’s shoulder.

"We’ll cross the bridge when we get to it," Cheng Ziang also shook his head helplessly.

After a brief round of drinks, everyone went off to rest. They’re faced with numerous tasks currently, a bit of alcohol could help to ease their stress, but drinking too much would be problematic.

The next morning, everyone was completely prepared. In order to ensure mobility, they packed plenty of ammunition for the battle, and everyone had loaded their guns with those 45-round long magazines. Hu Daoke, Wu Tairan, and Xuzhong Qi, who served as machine gunners, even used the four-row, 100-round high-capacity magazines to ensure sustained firepower.

Feng was still in her lightweight outfit. As a swordsman, she naturally couldn’t carry the same load as a rifleman or a machine gunner. Her weapon was still the longsword engraved with the Uzistas family seal. Despite having the most delicate weapon, she was the strongest in combat.

A dark blue flower hairpin was pinned to Feng’s hair. Since all the Corpse Demons had been wiped out, Luo’er considered and agreed to let her take off her gas mask. After all, both Exotic Insects and Exotic Beasts transmit the virus through bodily fluids. Although it still has a strong infectivity rate, compared to the inhalable spore virus, the infection effect would be greatly reduced.

After organizing their equipment, they were promptly transported directly to a spot less than a hundred meters from the Door of Annihilation. By now, it had already been occupied by conventional forces. These heavily armored knights, carrying various kinds of magical weapons, watched the descending transport plane with complicated expressions.

After dropping everyone off, the transport plane ascended. Other than the necessary air transport, the remaining air transports had been equipped with onboard weapons like machine guns and rockets to support ground combat at any time.

"Luo’er!" Tangmo, who was amidst a crowd of magicians, ran towards Luo’er and his fully armed group with excitement.

Luo’er looked at her tired eyes with a sympathetic sigh, then jokingly said, "You’ve finally remembered who’s most important to you."

"Are you jealous of Feng?" Hearing Luoer joke about it for once, Tangmo also broke into a faint smile and asked in response.

"No, I just feel like my status is being threatened. I’m supposed to be the mascot of the advance team, after all," Luoer said with a smile.

"I’ll make it up to you later!" Tangmo moved closer to Luoer, cradled his cheeks in her hands and said affectionately.

"You two," Cheng Ziang coughed awkwardly from the side, reminding them, "Don’t start being lovey-dovey on the battlefield, honestly, you two are usually so serious."

Hearing his reminder, Luoer quickly pulled her small hand away, then coughed embarrassingly and walked straight up to Shariya, respectfully saying, "Dean Shariya, we are here on the orders of the commander-in-chief to provide necessary cover for you."

"Thank you all," Shariya smiled in relief, "We’re fighting side by side again."

"Can we start now?" Luoer asked.

"Yes," Shariya looked at the overcast sky, then lowered her head helplessly to check her watch, "It’s about time, let’s begin!"

"Alright," Luoer nodded, then turned to shout loudly, "Everyone, take your positions and be alert. If anything seems off with the Door of Annihilation, don’t report, just fire immediately!"

"Yes!" everyone chanted in unison.

At Shariya’s command, the magicians began to busily clear a flat land on the open space near the posts. They neatly put square bricks, which were pre-printed with runes, roughly like assembling a puzzle.

"Is this a decoded rune?" Luoer asked, walking next to Shariya.

"Yes," Shariya nodded, then explained, "We plan to cut a rift from the runes on the posts using magic crystal mine powder and connect it with the decoded rune we’ve engraved. Next, we’ll together activate this rune, allowing the inverse magical power to flow into the entire post. This will shut the Door of Annihilation, a process that will probably take about an hour."

"It’s like inserting a computer virus." Luoer couldn’t help but comment.

Having heard his words, Shariya looked at him, her lips moved a bit before she said, "Moumou did tell me about that Earth term, sounds similar indeed. I’ve heard Earth people consider runes as programs to study. Is that true?"

"Yes," Luoer nodded in response, "That’s correct. Earth people are accustomed to translating concepts of the Magic World into concepts they can understand for research. Essentially, both are attempts to understand the rules of all things."

"This is a method worth promoting. No wonder you Earth people have made such great strides in studying magic within thirty years." Shariya nodded in approval.

"Actually for Earth people, the study of magic is essentially part of natural science. Natural science emphasizes that humans cannot alter the laws, but can use or modify them." Luoer said.

"With you putting it like that, I’m kind of tempted to go study on Earth." Shariya glanced at him, saying rather excitedly.

"If Dean Shariya is willing to teach on Earth, we would certainly be extremely delighted." Luoer jumped on the chance to invite her.

"I wouldn’t dare to talk about teaching. We’d all just be learning from what we need." Shariya waved off the notion.

A group of magicians began clearing the thick vines off the posts. The rune pattern on the post, covered with moss, emitted a purple light. Following that, they pulled out the prepared powder of magic crystal mine, and started looking for the route to connect with the decoding reversed rune being assembled.

Given their proximity to the Door of Annihilation, Luoer asked all the members of the advance team to maintain a distance of more than five meters from the door in case of a sudden attack by monsters. However, those heavy knights just wouldn’t heed his concern.

Guarding the door, they chatted casually out of boredom. After a period of counterattacks, they fully understood the strength of the exotic beasts and were not afraid of them at all. If it weren’t for the magician troops preparing to close the Otherworld Gate, they would have stormed into the Annihilation World to eliminate monsters even before they attempted to cross over, just like they did in the first Prophetic
