Chapter 695: Chapter 688: Eve of the Final Battle

Don’t think that magic power erosion only happens to people from Earth. For the people of the Otherworld, hearing about this disease also makes them change color in horror.

I mentioned before that the bodies of Earth people are like solids. Thus, magic power would constantly attempt to break through the surface of their bodies to achieve a balance with the atmospheric magic power. It’s somewhat similar to atmospheric pressure.

Once magic power breaks through the surface of an Earth person’s body, it will damage their organs and ultimately cause organ failure. Even worse is that this process is almost irreversible. Meaning, once an Earth person suffers from magic power erosion, they can only wait for their inevitable death.

Given the above standards, magic is almost deadly for Earth people. Even the most basic healing magic could potentially kill an Earth person in their prime.

However, for those Otherworlders with high magic resistance, their encounter with magic is not much different from that of Earth people. The only difference probably is that they could resist one percent of the magic damage.

Tangmo’s cautious efforts have achieved encouraging progress. Under the influence of five magic crystals, Feng gradually adapted. Not only did her Dantian’s magic power limit increase, but also her main body meridians strengthened, allowing her to release more magic power.

After some time of burning and advancing, the Church Court and the army of Odelanqi finally managed to gradually shrink the epidemic area and eventually surrounded the Door of Annihilation, which was under activation.

Next, the Church Court is organizing a team of mages to prepare for the sealing of the Door of Annihilation. Meanwhile, the Headquarters requests that the Airboat Command keep an eye on the sealing process of the Door of Annihilation and provide necessary help.

Thus, after receiving the order from the Headquarters, Li Si commands all flying vehicles to return to their hangers. All ground forces, except for the defense forces of the disease research department, are told to board ships to head for the Door of Annihilation.

The airboat slowly sails over the burnt forest. The Otherworlders are desperate to eradicate the epidemic zone, even at the cost of burning an ancient forest that was standing for thousands of years, causing a kilometer-wide burnt area.

Fortunately, there have been a few light showers these past days which put out the forest fire and refreshed the air somewhat. The people on the airboat finally felt a bit more comfortable. Thanks to the Church Court, now Li Si feels like his clothes, including the bedding, are all steeped in a smoky smell.

In the office, Hu Daoke is currently inviting the three men of the Murong Squad to play mahjong. Luo’er and Cheng Ziang sit side by side in a daze, while Li Si busies himself writing a report.

"Luo’er, how many days has it been since you last saw MouMou?" Cheng Ziang who had been in a trance for quite a while suddenly asked out of the blue.

"Almost a week, I guess. I can’t even catch a glimpse of her at meals," Luo’er replied after giving it some thought.

"Could it be that Moumou has fallen for Feng now?" Cheng Ziang asked, looking at him.

"Don’t talk nonsense. You know Moumou well, right? She’s the kind who forgets everything when she gets into something," Luo’er shrugged and calmly replied.

Luo’er’s reaction was disappointing to Cheng Ziang. Luo’er was too serious and not as active-minded as Hu Daoke. If he brought up this topic with Hu Daoke, they could probably gossip for hours.

"Speaking of which," Cheng Ziang paused, looked around, and then asked with a frown, "Where have all the girls from our two Advance Teams gone? Why are Yue’er and Shangguan Jiu also missing?"

"Oh, them?" Luo’er answered indifferently, "It seems Moumou said she wanted to dress up Feng, so they went over to join in the fun."

"What’s so fun about that?" Cheng Ziang asked, puzzled.

"You know Feng’s personality. She’s like a walking, talking doll. Girls love dolls and they love to dress them up in pretty clothes," Luo’er replied with a smile.

"Where is your little follower?" Cheng Ziang asked again.

Without uttering a word, Luo’er pointed at Hu Daoke not far away, who was focusing intently on playing mahjong. Only then did Cheng Ziang notice that Fulajie’er was sitting on Hu Daoke’s shoulder, watching them play mahjong with excitement.

"It seems only the two of us are idle," Cheng Ziang sighed.

"Someone has to be on guard," Luo’er replied.

"It’s so boring talking to you. You can’t even make a single joke. You’re too serious," Cheng Ziang glanced at him sideways and said disdainfully.

"Can’t we just have a normal conversation, discussing regular topics?" Luo’er said with a mixture of laughter and tears.

"That’s so boring," Cheng Ziang retorted, rolling his eyes. "Some people talk like they’re doing stand-up comedy, while some struggle to find words once they open their mouth, you belong to the latter."

"I remember when I first met you; you were quite aloof. How did you end up like this?" Luo’er asked, looking at him.

"Time changes people!" Cheng Ziang replied with indifference.

"But you still seem quite aloof to strangers." Luo’er remarked.

"Why bother to be polite to strangers." Cheng Ziang said.

"You are..." Luo ’er was speechless; he had to admit Cheng Ziang was right — he had run out of things to say.

Just as the two gaped, unsure of what to say next, the office door suddenly swung open and the girls walked in together. Tangmo, who was last to enter, was holding Feng tightly by the hand, leading her into the office.

Feng was now dressed in the same battle uniform as the Advance Team. Though pieced together at the last minute, it was evident that considerable thought had gone into her outfit. Her outfit was designed with lightness in mind, wrapped around her forearm was a leather bracer for protection, and she wore tall boots that completely enveloped her calves, accentuating her slender legs.

Feng wore a simple tactical waist seal, with a few small pockets around her waist. However, she carried no sidearm or ammunition; probably because she wouldn’t need it.

Her once messy short hair was now neatly made into a bun. The girls had even pinned a flower-shaped hair clip to her hair, subtly enhancing her innocent beauty.

"Does she look good?" Noticing Luo’er’s gaze, Shangguan Jiu asked excitedly.

"It’s a bit misfit, but she still looks pretty good, to be honest." Luo’er replied with a smile.

In front of so many people, Feng seemed a little nervous, hiding behind Tangmo, her big eyes darting curiously around the office. Her left hand was clasping the long sword she always carried, her weapon never leaving her hand.

Her outfit, a blend of the Otherworld style and modern tactical style, in combination with her distinctly East Asian features, gave off a slight air of incongruity.

"Wow, you gave all my throwing knives to her. What will I use?" Noticing the two throwing knives tucked away at Feng’s waist, Cheng Ziang couldn’t help but speak up.

"You don’t even use them. You’re a rifleman now." Tangmo answered as if it were a matter of course.

"Even if I don’t use them, you shouldn’t just give them away." Cheng Ziang shrugged.

Actually, he didn’t mind. After all, these weapons were more potent in Feng’s hands than playing around with them himself.

"Feng isn’t just anyone, she’s my little sister now, my real sister!" Saying this, Tangmo pulled Feng into her embrace.

"There she goes again, I knew she would pull this stunt," Cheng Ziang shrugged, turning to look at Luo’er with a mischievous grin. "Luo’er, you now have another aunt."

"Um-hmm," Luo’er coughed slightly, giving him a sidelong glance. "Don’t say things like this with so many people around."

It must be said, Feng was very compliant. She’d do anything Tangmo asked of her without complaint, and she seemed to have no objection to her affectionate actions. Luo’er was relieved that Tangmo was a girl; otherwise, Feng may have been simply defiled by now.

"After all these days without seeing you, I thought you had forgotten my interest in Feng." Luo’er said half-jokingly as he watched them being affectionate.

"Impossible," Tangmo instantly retorted, "I just think she’s adorable and I want to grow closer. Luo’er, you are still my favorite!"

Upon hearing her words, Luo’er coughed again, embarrassed. He seemed to have forgotten, Tangmo had always been quite clear about her feelings for him.
