Chapter 674: Chapter 667: Conjecture Confirmed

After hearing Zhuyan Yu’s explanation, Tangmo suddenly exclaimed in enlightenment: "Ah, no wonder. Previously when I replenished her with magic power, I noticed she could at least withstand the magic power injection of three magic crystals."

"Three magic crystals, how concentrated?" Nightingale asked, frowning.

"They are number nine," Tangmo replied.

"Number nine, that’s quite concentrated," Nightingale mused, lowering her head.

Magic Crystals can be divided into ten levels based on their concentration, which are marked by numbers. Industrial-grade Magic Crystals should be at least level five and above, while those used for military purposes need to be at least level seven and above.

The essence of magic power in minerals and atmosphere is the same, their only difference is that they exist in different forms. Because of this difference, atmospheric magic power is relatively more lively and can be driven by spells, while mineral magic power can only be driven by runes or magic arrays.

Atmospheric magic power and mineral magic power are connected. In almost all cases, atmospheric magic power acts as the primer to guide out the latent magic power in minerals.

For instance, in the case of active runes inlaid with magic crystals, a mage must actively guide the crystal using atmospheric magic power for it to be released. The principle behind passive glyphs inlaid with magic crystals is the same. The instant they come into contact, passive glyphs will absorb the magic power in the air to activate the mineral magic power, guiding it out.

Because the essence of atmospheric and mineral magic power is the same, both of these types can be absorbed and released by mages, although this process requires complex runes or magic arrays.

Back when they were in Lipei, Shariya, who activated the shield, had used a Magic Array to absorb the mineral magic power, maximizing the effect of the shield.

It should be noted that Shariya is the Dean of the Magic Academy and is one step away from being an Archmage. His own magic prowess is naturally higher than that of ordinary people. Therefore, he could withstand the immense magic power flow - an attempt that is too risky for ordinary people from the Otherworld or even apprentice mages.

The fact that Feng, despite her young age, can withstand such potent magic power infusion to a large extent validates Zhuyan Yu’s conjectures. Perhaps it is because Feng’s constitution is somewhat different from other mages. They abandoned the method of widespread distribution of veins and chose instead to strengthen the main few, thereby allowing for the handling and storage of substantial streams of magic power.

If this conjecture could be confirmed, it would undoubtedly give another boost to Earth’s research on magic. The thought of this possibility filled Zhuyan Yu with unprecedented excitement; she had already begun formulating the draft for a paper in her mind.

It is rather ironic that over the past three decades since the contact between the two worlds, it was not the elite mages from the Otherworld, but rather the scientists from Earth who feared the power of magic, who truly advanced the development of Otherworld magic.

Over these three decades, the exponential growth of papers on magic published by Earth’s scientists investigates the profound theories of magic on a deeper level, surpassing the exploration developed by Otherworld mages over millennia.

As mentioned before, technology and magic are not inherently conflicting at their core, they are both profound explorations of the essence of things. From this theoretical perspective, studying magic does not represent an endorsement for feudal superstitions, but rather a scientific exploration.

Tangmo turned her head and looked at Feng, who stood still, looking puzzled. Seeing her confusion, Tangmo couldn’t help but reach out and take her hand, stroking it gently, her mind busy with other considerations.

"How exactly do you accomplish your sword qi?" After a long silence, Tangmo couldn’t help but ask.

"Sword qi?" Feng was not familiar with this term.

"It’s that attack you do where you wave your sword, and targets several meters away are cut in two." Tangmo explained with gestures.

"I don’t know. I just release magic power, and then the target gets slain by me," Feng shrugged, her face innocent.

"In principle, a weapon made of metal shouldn’t be able to act as a medium for the release of magic power, should it?" Holding her chin and frowning, Tangmo mused.

The deployment of a magic formula requires a mage, spells, and a medium. Without any one of these components, it won’t work. The mage guides the flow of magic in the body through spells, and then releases it through the medium to form a complete magic formula process.

Not all objects can be used as mediums for a magic formula, only certain special types of wood can. Mages often make these into magic wands. That’s why a magic wand is standard equipment for a mage. Without the wand as a medium, the mage could not perform a complete magic formula.

However, it is clear that Feng’s longsword does not fall into the medium category, as historically in the Otherworld, there have hardly been any Battle Mages who use metal weapons as mediums.

Furthermore, Feng wasn’t particular about her longsword. Essentially, she could cast magic formulas with any sword in hand. Before, Tangmo had thought there was something special about Feng’s original longsword, but when they switched it with a sword from Carter, she wielded it as effortlessly as ever, without a hint of discomfort.

The mysteries surrounding Feng were indeed numerous, and the deeper their exploration went, the more astonished they were by the secrets she held.

In contemplation, Tangmo suddenly had an epiphany and looked up to ask Feng, "Feng, can you still use those magic formulas without a weapon?"

"No, I can’t," Feng shook her head and replied.

"Just as I thought, after all, without even a medium, how could the magic power possibly be released?" Tangmo nodded to herself, murmuring.

"There’s no need for it." Feng paused before bluntly adding.

"No need?" Tangmo looked at her with wide eyes.

"Yes," Feng gently nodded and calmly said, "Because without a weapon, I can directly kill enemies with a slap."

"How do you slap?" Tangmo asked, surprised.

"I release magic power directly!" Feng explained through gestures.

Upon hearing this, Tangmo was even more astonished. After pondering for a while, she couldn’t help but ask, "Then, could you release your magic power on me once?"

"It would be lethal." Feng put it bluntly.

"Moumou, what are you thinking? Be careful!" Zhuyan Yu, sensing something was amiss, hastily cautioned.

"It’s fine, don’t use your full strength, just 10% of your magic power would be sufficient," Tangmo waved it off. She then turned to Zhuyan Yu and said, "Don’t worry, Teacher Zhu, my magic resistance is low and I have high magic affinity, I can tolerate a certain level of magic power overload."

"Absolutely not. It’s sheer folly. Don’t forget, magic power erosion can be fatal. And you’re a mage; once you suffer irreversible damage from magic power erosion, you’ll be ruined for life," Zhuyan Yu shook her head assertively and said with a grave expression.

"Teacher Zhu, don’t you want to know how Feng operates and uses her magic power? It’s a major breakthrough in magic research," Tangmo, staring at Zhuyan, said with evident excitement.

"If she takes some inhibitory drugs, it should mitigate the permanent damage caused by magic power erosion," Nightingale, standing beside them, suddenly said coldly.

"You too, want her to take the risk?" Zhuyan Yu turned to her, frowning.

"The exploration of the unknown calls for adventurers who dare to proceed unswervingly. Since she is willing to be an adventurer, why should I turn down this opportunity?" Nightingale blandly remarked.

"How lightly you put it, she’s my student and moreover," Zhuyan Yu turned back to Tangmo and sighed, "If something happens to her, how am I supposed to explain it to Luo’er."

"Teacher, this is my own choice, none of this has to do with any of you, please," Tangmo begged.

"You’d better agree," Nightingale interjected once again.

"What are you driving at?" Zhuyan Yu looked at Nightingale again, asking somewhat irritably.

"Feng is a member of the advance team; if Tangmo wants to conduct an experiment, there’ll be ample opportunities. If it’s done in our presence, at least we’re there to control the aftermath. If she conducts the experiment in secret, the consequences could be severe," Nightingale stated emotionlessly, explaining her rationale.

Hearing this, Zhuyan Yu was lost in thought for a long while before finally giving in reluctantly, "Alright, I agree. But we must ensure safety precautions are in place!"
