Otherworld Advance Team
Chapter 639 - 632: A False Alarm

Chapter 639: Chapter 632: A False Alarm

The two arrived on the ground by transport plane. Since their stay outside was brief, they simply wore gas masks instead of full-body armor.

After a decontamination wash, the two removed their masks and entered the research center. Seeing their arrival, Dr. An Liang, who oversaw the research, hurried forward to meet them.

"Dr. An Liang, how is Luo’er?" Li Si asked.

"He’s alright, there are no clear signs of infection, but he still needs at least half a month of observation. Besides, his foot injury is quite serious, it might take up to two weeks for him to be discharged from hospital", An Liang responded.

"Half a month? I feel Luo’er would never agree to that." Cheng Ziang couldn’t refrain from interrupting.

"Yes," An Liang nodded helplessly at his words, "Luo’er requested only five days of observation. So I’m currently worried and might need to consult for the commander’s advice."

"Ignore him, ignore all his requests until his foot injury recovers!" Hearing that Luo’er was unharmed, Li Si let out a sigh of relief and waved his hand dismissively.

"Alright, then we will proceed as per your instruction." An Liang nodded in agreement.

"What about those two girls?" Cheng Ziang couldn’t help but ask.

"They are in the isolation ward with him. As Luo’er is not confirmed as infected, we didn’t let them both come out." An Liang replied.

"Those two girls," Li Si sighed, waving his hand, "Nevermind, since the Advance Team isn’t expected to depart for a mission anytime soon, just let them be."

"Besides, regarding the little girl brought back by the Advance Team..." At this point, An Liang looked hesitant to continue.

"Where is she now?" Li Si asked curiously.

"She’s in the isolation room now, very obedient and does what she’s told, but she refuses to let go of the sword in her hand." An Liang answered.

"You’d better not try to take that sword from her. If she gets upset, I doubt any of us could handle her." Cheng Ziang cautioned lightly.

An Liang didn’t respond to his words, but instead looked down at the papers in his hand. Then he lifted his head and asked seriously, "I heard from your people that the girl is immune to the virus, is that true?"

"Yes!" Cheng Ziang nodded.

"What type of infection?" An Liang asked seriously.

"All of them, including the inhalation infection by the Corpse Demons, and blood contamination by the Exotic Insects and Beasts." Cheng Ziang answered.

"You witnessed it yourselves?" An Liang enquired with a frown.

"Yes," Cheng Ziang nodded, adding, "We’ve seen her inhale the virus from a Corpse Demon. It only caused her to cough without further infection."

"Hmm," An Liang nodded, then continued, "We need to analyse her saliva, blood, and waste. We may need the assistance of the Advance Team, as everyone is afraid of her because she always carries a sword."

"Alright, I’ll make arrangements!" Cheng Ziang nodded in response.

"Thank you!" An Liang nodded.

After some small talk, An Liang returned to his work. The two walked through the research center and arrived at Luo’er’s isolated room. Only after donning their gas masks again, were they allowed into the room.

Upon entering the room, they found Tangmo and Baiyue, fully geared, seated by Luo’er’s side. Luo’er simply wore a standard patient uniform with thick bandages wrapped around his foot.

"Lucky guy, I didn’t receive such treatment when I was injured." Cheng Ziang shook his head with a smile.

"Stop teasing me, as if I want to get hurt." Luo’er waved his hand in resignation.

"Moumou, Dr. An Liang is preparing to conduct some tests on Feng. You should accompany her during the tests to prevent any mishaps," Cheng Ziang told Tangmo.

"Why should I accompany her?" Tangmo looked at Luo’er beside her, complaining.

Cheng Ziang leaned close to her ear and whispered: "Don’t waste your chance. Rather than sitting here foolishly with Luo’er, it would be better to help him out with some matters. He might be happier that way."

Hearing his words, Tangmo showed a troubled expression. She looked at Cheng Ziang, then at Luo’er, and finally, after gritting her teeth, she made up her mind and left the room.

"I’m glad you’re okay, you really scared me. I didn’t know how to explain it to the boss earlier," said Li Si, relieved to see Luo’er’s condition, and spoke with feeling.

"I’m sorry for making you worry, Brother Li," Luo’er said.

"Why did you order the support plane to turn back?" Li Si asked.

"It’s my fault... I underestimated the situation in the epidemic zone and made an incorrect judgment," Luo’er said apologetically.

"Luo’er, small mistakes can be made, and we can cover for you. But we cannot afford to repeat such a blunder again. If you make a mistake, the whole Advance Team will pay the price," Li Si said seriously.

"Yes, I will reflect deeply," Luo’er replied, bowing his head.

"For the next half month, you must stay here and not try to bargain with Dr. An Liang!" Li Si continued to reprimand.

"Yes, yes, I got it..." Luo’er lowered his head in embarrassment and coughed awkwardly when he realized that his bargain with Dr. An Liang was known to Li Si.

"Well, I will go back first if there is nothing else. I have a bunch of things to deal with," said Li Si. He cast a glance at Luo’er and continued, "As long as you stay here obediently, I won’t worry. Cheng Ziang, I’ll have to trouble you during this period!"

"I understand!" Cheng Ziang nodded.

After Li Si left, Cheng Ziang turned around and breathed a sigh of relief, only to find Luo’er staring at him intently.

"What’s wrong, you seem to hold a grudge?" Cheng Ziang shrugged and asked.

"Did you tattle on me?" Luo’er asked.

"Do you really think I would do that? I prefer to complain directly!" Cheng Ziang said with a grin.

"You..." Seeing his shameless expression, Luo’er was speechless.

"Alright, I have helped you distract Moumou. You two have a good chat and don’t do anything out of line," said Cheng Ziang. He left the room before Luo’er could react, closing the door behind him.

With the door closed, the atmosphere in the room suddenly became awkward. Baiyue kept her head down and still wore a gas mask, so Luo’er couldn’t see much of her expression. After hesitating for a long while, Luo’er finally gathered the courage to reach out and hold Baiyue’s hand.

Baiyue’s reaction was very much in her style. She trembled all over, then tense up, hardly daring to breathe.

"Actually, you could be more proactive," Luo’er suggested after some thought.

"Hmmm..." Baiyue responded in a low voice.

"Don’t just do things on your own all the time. Many times, the things you do are not noticed by others, including me," Luo’er paused and continued.

"Yeah!" Baiyue’s response remained the same, except that her tone had become a little excited.

"You don’t always have to try to achieve something. Simple and ordinary life is just fine. When you have free time, you can chat with me, or I can chat with you," Luo’er continued.

Upon hearing his words, Baiyue was clearly not as calm as before. She twisted her body and nervously played with her fingers. After hesitating for a long time, she could not help but ask in a low voice, "What... what to chat about?"

"We can chat about anything, or you can just vent, there’s no specific topic," Luo’er replied with a wry smile as he heard her words.

"Then, then I’ll bring my father’s diary to read to you," Baiyue said and was about to get up to leave.

"No, no... You don’t have to keep reading the diary. We can talk about other things. You won’t have to behave like this in the future," Seeing her, Luo’er sighed and shook his head.

"Huh?" Upon hearing this, Baiyue paused abruptly.

"Oh, it’s nothing, I was just saying," Realizing he had misspoken, Luo’er waved his hand and said.
