Chapter 633: Chapter 626: Feng’s Technique

After checking around the wall, Feng silently walked to the middle of the watchtower, then proceeded to inspect the wooden floor beneath.

"What is she planning to do?" Hu Daoke can’t help but ask, turning his head to take a glance at her.

"It seems like she’s searching for the crossbeams," Cheng Ziang said while observing attentively, furrowing his brow.

"My goodness, she can’t possibly be planning for us to perish together with the exotic insects, could she?" Hu Daoke tongue-clicked, finding it hard to suppress his disbelief.

"She probably wouldn’t." said Luo’er in an attempt to reassure. Although he said so, he too had his doubts.

Soon, Feng seemed to have located the position of the crossbeams. She then marked the direction on the floor with her foot. After that, she looked up at Luo’er and said, "You all should move a bit toward the center."

"Wait, we are in the middle of a battle here," Hu Daoke commented as he retreated.

"It’s fine, everyone just move a bit closer to the center," Luo’er instructed.

Even though they did not know what she wanted to do, Luo’er knew she must have a solution for the current crisis. Although he dared not claim that she could handle all the incoming exotic insects, alleviating the current crisis was most likely not a problem for her.

After seeing everyone gather, Feng bent her head and looked at the mark under her feet. Suddenly, everyone felt the magic in their surroundings intensify suddenly, as if a fiercely burning stove had appeared in front of them.

The density of the magical energy spread outward with Feng at the center. Tangmo took a deep breath, trying to absorb and distribute this surge of magic, but was shocked to find she could not draw on this suddenly dense magic at all. It was as though the magic had been encrypted. If she could not find a way to decipher it, she couldn’t absorb it into her body and release it.

Feeling the anomaly, Tangmo was even more surprised, unconsciously gazing at Feng with wide eyes. Just what did this enigmatic girl plan to do, and why was her method of using magic completely different from others?

In the clash between mages, there were cases of one using the incoming magic of their opponent for oneself. However, this method was greatly limited, and typically it was only possible to use unchanging Magic.

For instance, if your opponent uses a Focused Blast spell on you, which is a magic formula that compresses magic power and releases it, relying on the shock wave and Magic Power Erosion to injure the target, since it hasn’t transformed the nature of the magic power, you can actually absorb and use it to your advantage.

This is exactly why mages rarely use such magic during their confrontations. On one hand, mages generally have a low Magic Resistance, so the magic formula can only cause shock wave damage and cannot effectively cause Magic Power Erosion damage.

On the other hand, if you face a slightly clever mage, they can completely absorb and release all the compressed magic power that has been exploded, which even saves the time it takes to accumulate their magic power. Thus, it would be more of a loss than a gain for the attacker.

Of course, if the opponent transforms the nature of the magic power, then the situation changes. For example, if the opponent releases a Fireball spell - a magic formula that transfers magic power into fire, relying on high temperatures to injure the target. Such magic formulae cannot be reabsorbed and released as the nature of the magic power has already changed. To absorb this magic power, it must be dissociated back into magic power from fire in the brief moment of contact, only then can it be reabsorbed and released.

Generally speaking, using a Defense Shield magic spell can decompose fire back into magic power, but to maintain the shield, a spell must be continually chanted. So, unless some unusually clever mages pull off a stunt, no one would be foolish enough to decompose the opponent’s magic formula to absorb such a pitiful amount of magic power.

The magical tricks of the Otherworld are actually similar to the fighting moves of Earth. Fancy moves are only suitable for display, while real battles are direct and succinct without any superfluous actions.

After saying so much, the reason Tangmo feels puzzled about Feng’s magic formula is that even though the magic power she released has not changed, it feels as if it has been encrypted, and she simply can’t use it in any way.

After releasing a certain amount of magic power, Feng stopped. Then, she drew her long sword with her right hand in a backhand grip and raised it high above her head. Suddenly, she held the hilt with both hands and forcefully stabbed the blade into the floor, simultaneously sinking down to one knee. As she moved, the dense magic power in her surroundings returned to its usual intensity in a flash.

The moment her sword tip pierced the floor, almost everyone heard a sound of tearing coming from nearby, accompanied by the hysterical shrieking of the Exotic Insects around them.

Then, the ground seemed to tremble slightly, causing everyone to involuntarily jump up on the spot, as if something had heavily hit nearby.

After accomplishing all of this, Feng appeared exhausted, kneeling on the ground with her hands tightly gripping the hilt of the sword. Her head bowed onto the hilt, and her breathing became rushed.

"Are you okay?" Luo’er asked with concern.

"I’m fine. Those creatures shouldn’t be able to climb up for now, right?" Feng coughed slightly and responded in a somewhat weary voice.

Upon hearing her words, Luo’er was startled and quickly ran to the edge of the wall to look down. What he saw next was shocking.

Below the watchtower were countless broken bodies of Exotic Insects. The once lively insects were now in pieces, struggling for their short life. The high insect wall that they had built at the corner of the wall was now in ruins, turned into a heap of shattered limbs.

Luo’er saw a body of an Exotic Insect hanging on the observation window. It had originally clung to the window ledge with two of its forelimbs, but now only half of it remained. Something had cut one half of its body off neatly from head to tail. The precision of the cut was comparable to a surgical dissection.

Luo’er surveyed the rest of the area. Almost all the insect walls built around the corners of the watchtower had been affected by the hit, turning into heaps of scattered and shattered limbs.

Apparently, the area of impact of Feng’s magic formulas was not particularly broad; only the Exotic Insects within one meter from the wall had been dismembered. However, the deterrence caused was beyond expectations. If these Exotic Insects had any intelligence at all, they would probably have fled by now.

Unfortunately, these Exotic Insects had no semblance of intelligence. They simply followed their hunting instincts, and Luo’er was even unaware of how they had found him. After a short pause, the Exotic Insects gathered again at the base of the watchtower and started building a new insect wall, completely indifferent to the tragic state of their counterparts.

Nonetheless, Feng’s attack had certainly alleviated their immediate crisis. The Exotic Insects had no sense of order; it would take them at least half an hour to pile up an insect wall high enough to reach the top of the watchtower, which already bought much time for the Advance Team.

"Check your ammunition, keep fighting!" Seeing the Exotic Insects launching a second attack, Luo’er didn’t have time to check on Feng, and shouted out the command.

Although Feng had momentarily relieved the pressure on the Advance Team, soon again, the Exotic Insects assembled another insect wall and kept bouncing towards the top of the tower. Quite a few Exotic Insects were already clinging to the windowsill and the cracks in the wall, their terrifying mouthparts ceaselessly moving, evidently determined to reach their target.

Luo’er checked the time; half an hour had passed, and all their ammo was almost used up, making it impossible to withstand these successive attacks by the Exotic Insects.

He turned back to glance at Feng. She was now motionless in the same position as before. This recent attack had clearly exhausted her physical strength and stored magic power, thus she would unlikely be able to launch similar magic formulas again.

"Is the prophecy false?" Luo’er gazed at the dust-filled sky in a kind of despair and muttered to himself.

Just then, he heard a strange noise coming from the southeast sky. Immediately afterwards, there was a crackling sound from below the watchtower as the Exotic Insects were torn into pieces by some mysterious force. The insect wall, once piled high, collapsed instantly. Not only that, even the stone walls of the watchtower started to crack and burst, and debris splattered around.

"What is this?" Hearing the sound, Luo’er’s eyes widened in disbelief.

Shortly after, a series of explosions echoed from the ridge. The force was so powerful that they could feel the shockwave coming straight at them even on top of the watchtower.

"Boss, the air support has arrived!" Hu Daoke pointed at the sky, shouting with joy.
