Once he sat down at Wang Xu’s table, Lin Wei immediately started to unleash his wrath. If it weren’t for Wang Xu’s repeated reminders, the entire outpost would probably be feeling his anger.

"What exactly happened, why has Princess Nina suddenly become so aggressive? Has someone leaked our bottom line to her?" Lin Wei surveyed all present, his gaze finally resting on Wang Xu.

"Chief, I can assure you none of my men would do such a thing," Wang Xu replied calmly.

"Has Luo’er been in contact with Princess Nina recently?" Lin Wei asked.

"Princess Nina is Luo’er’s mother. Isn’t their meeting quite normal? If you start suspecting Luo’er because of this, wouldn’t that be an utter contradiction to your previous choices?" Wang Xu spoke with neither humility nor haughtiness.

"Hard to say, even Luo’er might not fully lean towards the headquarters," Lin Wei sighed.

Wang Xu fell silent for a while, then gathered his courage to say, "Chief, forgive my plain words, but the conditions you offered to Ilanadale are somewhat harsh. Even if they are unaware of our bottom line, they would certainly become more aggressive once they get a hint."

"Do you think I’ve been too excessive?" Lin Wei questioned, looking directly at him.

"Impossible," Wang Xu remarked flatly. "If Luo’er weren’t trustworthy, the Chief wouldn’t have sent him to Otherworld. Look at how many Advance Teams headquarters has deployed to Otherworld over these years."

"That’s true," the executive nodded in agreement.

To date, only two Advance Teams had been deployed to Otherworld from headquarters—Luo’er was always leading the main team. Murong’s team would sometimes be dispatched to Otherworld but usually didn’t undertake Reconnaissance combat missions. This alone was enough to illustrate Lin Wei’s cautious approach with the Advance Teams.

"So it’s really strange, how did Princess Nina suddenly become so assertive?" others asked in confusion.

"There can be no effect without a cause. If you all believe that the conditions proposed by the headquarters were overbearing, Princess Nina isn’t a fool. She represents the interests of Ilanadale and is naturally much more sensitive than us," Wang Xu explained.

"I see," everyone nodded in agreement.

"What are you doing?" Luo’er asked, staring at him in surprise.

Wang Xu locked the door behind him and then looked around before asking, "What did you say to your mom?"

Hearing his question, Luo’er paused for a moment, and then asked with somewhat nervous, "They know?"

Wang Xu let out a soft sigh, then shook his head in frustration, "It’s you indeed."

When he saw Princess Nina’s attitude change completely, Wang Xu immediately thought of Luo’er. It must have been him. If it wasn’t for Luo’er, Princess Nina would never have noticed the predicament the headquarters was facing.

But he hadn’t immediately pointed it out because he knew that once it was confirmed, it would be particularly cruel for Luo’er’s future. Even though Wang Xu was the commanding officer at the front line, Luo’er was certainly much more important to him than his position.

Wang Xu remained unmarried till today. When he first laid eyes on the little Luo’er, he was deeply moved. Over the years, he had found various reasons to stay by Luo’er’s side and take care of him. Even after his promotion, he sought opportunities to enter Haiya Academy to accompany Luo’er.

For Luo’er, Wang Xu always felt a sense of guardianship, like a father and an elder brother. He could never forget the feeling of Luo’er curling up next to him after losing his father. At that moment, he made a promise to himself to raise Luo’er.

Over all these years, he had done his best to create a suitable environment for Luo’er, overlooking his minor mistakes. Strangely, even though he had remained single, he genuinely experienced what it was like to be a father.

"Fortunately, only I noticed. I’ve managed to cover for you," Wang Xu breathed a sigh of relief, then said to him, "Go and tell your mom, ask her to ease off a little. The Chief almost suspected you."

"I understand..." Luo’er said, lowering his head. In the face of Wang Xu’s kindness, he didn’t know what to say.
