Otherworld Advance Team
Chapter 580 - 573: Questioning_1

Chapter 580: Chapter 573: Questioning_1

Lin Wei entered the office, followed by all the executives from the headquarters. They knew what was about to transpire, hence everyone remained silent, hardly daring to breathe.

Once he sat down at Wang Xu’s table, Lin Wei immediately started to unleash his wrath. If it weren’t for Wang Xu’s repeated reminders, the entire outpost would probably be feeling his anger.

"What exactly happened, why has Princess Nina suddenly become so aggressive? Has someone leaked our bottom line to her?" Lin Wei surveyed all present, his gaze finally resting on Wang Xu.

"Chief, I can assure you none of my men would do such a thing," Wang Xu replied calmly.

"Has Luo’er been in contact with Princess Nina recently?" Lin Wei asked.

"Princess Nina is Luo’er’s mother. Isn’t their meeting quite normal? If you start suspecting Luo’er because of this, wouldn’t that be an utter contradiction to your previous choices?" Wang Xu spoke with neither humility nor haughtiness.

"Hard to say, even Luo’er might not fully lean towards the headquarters," Lin Wei sighed.

Wang Xu fell silent for a while, then gathered his courage to say, "Chief, forgive my plain words, but the conditions you offered to Ilanadale are somewhat harsh. Even if they are unaware of our bottom line, they would certainly become more aggressive once they get a hint."

"Do you think I’ve been too excessive?" Lin Wei questioned, looking directly at him.

"Yes..." Hesitating for a moment, Wang Xu finally nodded.

"What about the rest of you?" Lin Wei raised his voice, scanning all the people in the room.

The gathered people looked at each other and, after some hesitation, one of them stuttered, "Indeed... it is a bit unreasonable. We clearly have a very close relationship with Ilanadale, in principle, it should be closer than with Ronisca or Masya. But the conditions you offer to Ilanadale are almost the same as those given to the aforementioned countries."

"If we want to use our close relationship with Ilanadale as leverage, we should be willing to give more. Regardless of circumstances, we should aim for a win-win situation. Your attitude towards Ilanadale greatly contradicts the closeness you claim that exists between us. People who realize this will not accept such terms," With courage, Wang Xu spoke.

Having listened to the rest of the executives, Lin Wei could not help but lower his head, closing his eyes to consider whether his actions had indeed been correct.

"The top leadership is pressuring us, we are in a difficult position. If we continue to behave so assertively in Otherworld, I fear it will backfire. You’re only allowed to stay in Otherworld for three days, and tomorrow is the last day. I hope you will think it over," Wang Xu continued.

Lin Wei sighed deeply, then said with his head still low, "I need some time alone. You may all leave for now."

"Yes," Wang Xu nodded, motioning everyone to quietly exit the room.

Upon reaching the hallway, the group of executives immediately began whispering, discussing what just transpired. One of them turned to Wang Xu and queried, "Could it be that Luo’er really leaked information?"

"Impossible," Wang Xu remarked flatly. "If Luo’er weren’t trustworthy, the Chief wouldn’t have sent him to Otherworld. Look at how many Advance Teams headquarters has deployed to Otherworld over these years."

"That’s true," the executive nodded in agreement.

To date, only two Advance Teams had been deployed to Otherworld from headquarters—Luo’er was always leading the main team. Murong’s team would sometimes be dispatched to Otherworld but usually didn’t undertake Reconnaissance combat missions. This alone was enough to illustrate Lin Wei’s cautious approach with the Advance Teams.

"So it’s really strange, how did Princess Nina suddenly become so assertive?" others asked in confusion.

"There can be no effect without a cause. If you all believe that the conditions proposed by the headquarters were overbearing, Princess Nina isn’t a fool. She represents the interests of Ilanadale and is naturally much more sensitive than us," Wang Xu explained.

"I see," everyone nodded in agreement.

Once the crowd dispersed, Wang Xu finally breathed a sigh of relief. He headed towards the residential area. Upon reaching the dormitory area, he bumped into Luo’er. Without a second thought, he took hold of Luo’er’s arm and dragged him into his room.

"What are you doing?" Luo’er asked, staring at him in surprise.

Wang Xu locked the door behind him and then looked around before asking, "What did you say to your mom?"

Hearing his question, Luo’er paused for a moment, and then asked with somewhat nervous, "They know?"

Wang Xu let out a soft sigh, then shook his head in frustration, "It’s you indeed."

When he saw Princess Nina’s attitude change completely, Wang Xu immediately thought of Luo’er. It must have been him. If it wasn’t for Luo’er, Princess Nina would never have noticed the predicament the headquarters was facing.

But he hadn’t immediately pointed it out because he knew that once it was confirmed, it would be particularly cruel for Luo’er’s future. Even though Wang Xu was the commanding officer at the front line, Luo’er was certainly much more important to him than his position.

Wang Xu remained unmarried till today. When he first laid eyes on the little Luo’er, he was deeply moved. Over the years, he had found various reasons to stay by Luo’er’s side and take care of him. Even after his promotion, he sought opportunities to enter Haiya Academy to accompany Luo’er.

For Luo’er, Wang Xu always felt a sense of guardianship, like a father and an elder brother. He could never forget the feeling of Luo’er curling up next to him after losing his father. At that moment, he made a promise to himself to raise Luo’er.

Over all these years, he had done his best to create a suitable environment for Luo’er, overlooking his minor mistakes. Strangely, even though he had remained single, he genuinely experienced what it was like to be a father.

"Fortunately, only I noticed. I’ve managed to cover for you," Wang Xu breathed a sigh of relief, then said to him, "Go and tell your mom, ask her to ease off a little. The Chief almost suspected you."

"I understand..." Luo’er said, lowering his head. In the face of Wang Xu’s kindness, he didn’t know what to say.

Taking a step forward, Wang Xu gently patted his shoulder and said, "I know you have complaints against the Chief. After all, he really didn’t handle this matter well."

"Not just this matter," Luo’er muttered, "From the moment I met him, I didn’t like him. His eyes are full of desire, always thinking of what he can get from me. If not for my grandfather, my fate would be no better than lab animals."

"I understand," Wang Xu gently said.

Even though Wang Xu was from the headquarters, he was once a soldier under Luo Qishan. Therefore, despite having joined the headquarters for so many years, he was still loyal to Luo Qishan.

"Thank you for covering for me," Luo’er looked at him and said gratefully.

"Why the formalities with me," Wang Xu said with a smile and a gentle pat on his shoulder, "After all, I’ve watched you grow up. How could I not help you? Besides, to be frank, I also think the method of using you and Princess Nina as a sentimental card is inappropriate. If we were going to adopt such a strong stance in the meeting, we shouldn’t have emphasized your mother-son relationship and raised false hopes."

"I’ll go to my mom later and talk to her about it properly," Luo’er said.

"If you go now, you’re sure to be watched by those from the headquarters. This is a sensitive time, and you should stay out of it," Wang Xu warned him.

"So what should I do?" asked Luo’er.

"It’s simple. Don’t you have an artificial intelligence system? Let it notify Princess Nina," Wang Xu suggested.

"You mean Fula, right. Why didn’t I think of it," Luo’er hit himself on the head, suddenly realizing.

"Anyway, before the meeting is over, don’t get in contact with Princess Nina again. We don’t want to give people a chance to gossip," Wang Xu advised.

"I get it!" Luo’er nodded.
