Chapter 565: Chapter 558: Meeting an Acquaintance Again
"This..." Azita lowered his head, seemingly mustering all his courage. Pulling in a deep breath, he then lifted his head to speak to them. "Alright, okay, I’ll help you deal with it..."
The intention of Luo’er’s plan was clear. They now had control over the logging yard and if Earth hadn’t received any news, they would most likely continue sending Fu’en over. Thus, they could use the strategy of watching from a concealed spot, waiting idly for Fu’en to arrive through teleportation.
Unlike Luo’er, when faced with issues related to magic, Tangmo had more to say. She quickly asked another question about summoning, "How have you resolved the issue of synchronising teleportation and summoning?"
"We agreed on a common teleportation time - there are three in total. As there is a time difference between here and Earth, we have to continuously initiate summoning here to ensure that the teleportation on Earth can capture its target," replied Azita, showing a respectable level of understanding and research in magic.
"When is the first time?" asked Tangmo.
"Today, 14:30 in the afternoon!" Azita responded and urged them to take out the mechanical pocket watch from his pocket.
Cheng Ziang retrieved a pocket watch from his pocket, gave it a quick check, and handed it over to Tangmo. She glanced at it and realised that it was still morning. This meant that they had a few hours to prepare for this summoning.
"Luo’er..." Tangmo furrowed her brows, her face turning serious, and she looked towards Luo’er.
"I understand!" Luo’er nodded and then turned to tell Azita, "You will guide them in starting the summoning array, waiting for the teleportation. Don’t think about doing any tricks. Ziang will be watching him. If he tries anything funny, we will immediately put an end to him!"
"Understood!" Cheng Ziang nodded, picked up Azita from the ground, and dragged him out with Tangmo.
Under the guidance of Azita, the summoning array was quickly planned and drawn out. Azita had a good command of magic, which was why the Central Intelligence Agency entrusted him with such an important task.
Luo’er instructed Fulajie’er to patrol around as a guard so that he could recall Baiyue, who was responsible for patrolling, to assist Tangmo in the drawing process of the array. It would be rather strenuous for Tangmo alone.
Believing in Tangmo’s presence, Luo’er knew that Azita wouldn’t dare to deceive them. Tangmo’s research in magic runes was deep — she understood what each rune symbolised and its use with just a glance. Even if it were more complex runes, by doing some calculations, she could figure it out. Therefore, if Azita provided incorrect rune styles, Tangmo would be able to discern it instantly.
Cheng Ziang tied Azita to a pillar and left him under Hu Daoke’s surveillance while he worked with Luo’er to dig graves. They tossed all corpses in and buried them to prevent any diseases caused by rotting bodies.
At noon, Tangmo and Baiyue finally completed the construction of the magic array. The magic array that was managed by Azita was a little strange and different from the traditional summoning array. Luo’er felt a sense of familiarity yet couldn’t put his finger on it until it suddenly dawned on him. Right, this was similar to the method that Nightingale had used to shape Fulajie’er’s body.
The magic array was set with several stone tablets adorned with complex runes. These tablets were embedded into the magic array and would activate themselves according to the runes once initiated, leaving no need for the mage’s chant guidance.
According to Azita, this seems to be an invention of Fu’en. He seemed to be aware that he might run away from Earth, hence, he set up this automatic summoning array. It does not require magic to operate, but rather just needs someone to draw the magic array based on patterns and insert the rune tablets.
The traditional summoning array requires not only an array but also a mage to initiate the array. The mage needs to continuously chant to guide the operation of the array until the target is summoned. However, Fu’en changed this method, using runes to replace the chant of mages to achieve the same effect.
This array was different from the one previously used by Nightingale. It utilised atmosphere magic for summoning. Therefore, this magic array had to be drawn in areas abundant with magic to avoid summoning failure due to lack of magic power.
The activation entrance of the magic array was a stone tablet imbued with a passive glyph, which was a rune that could be activated without magic. This stone tablet could be activated simply through a slight collision, awakening the entire magic array and initiating the summoning ritual.
Once everyone was ready, Tangmo checked the time. It was now 14:29 in the afternoon, meaning they only had one minute left to activate the summoning array and wait for Fu’en to walk into their trap.
Everyone was prepared, their weapons aimed outside the magic array, waiting for Fu’en’s arrival. As soon as this guy showed up, he would be arrested.
"14:30, Activate!" Tangmo announced, stepping onto the passive glyph stone tablet beneath him.
The stone tablet hummed like a gong being struck, then the rune on it was instantly activated, emitting a soft light. The light instantly spread throughout the array, the pooling brilliance rendering them temporarily unable to see the event occurring in the center of the magic array.
Luo’er shielded his eyes, backing away a few steps. Only after adjusting to the dazzling light was he able to vaguely see the scene at the heart of the rune. At this moment, magical energy in the air was quickly converging, being absorbed by the magic array as the source of energy to kick-start the ritual.
Tangmo used his hand to shield against the blinding light, then looked at the pocket watch in his hand. A minute had passed, but the array remained filled with light, obscuring his vision.
Fearing that Azita would take advantage of the chaos to escape, Luo’er had Cheng Ziang keep an eye on him while he stayed put waiting for Fu’en’s arrival.
14:33, three minutes passed, but the center of the magic array remained empty. Clenching his teeth, Tangmo began to worry that something had gone wrong or that perhaps the Agency had learned that Azita’s team was already wiped out, and replaced the summoning team.
But Azita had clearly stated just now that their team was the only one assigned by the Agency to perform the summoning in the Otherworld. Ever since being hunted by the High-peak people in Ronisca, the Agency’s agents were severely wounded, and they had to hire a large number of mercenaries to complete tasks in the Otherworld.
They were aware of the drawbacks of relying on mercenaries, but they had no choice. The Agency did not have anything akin to the Origin Project for breeding a sub-species of humans, hence their only choice was to transform Earthlings into Otherworld natives via unconventional means and transfer them to the Otherworld.
14:35. After the magic array had been active for 5 minutes, everyone finally saw a figure composed of white light forming quickly in the center of the array. This was a naked figure since both summoning and teleporting could only transport the human body. Clothing and even metal would be torn apart and revert to atomic state.
Tangmo clenched his teeth. As the figure became more defined, she stomped her foot down again, disrupting the summoning ceremony within the magic array. Instantaneously, the light vanished and a naked person was left standing alone in the center of the magic array.
Seeing the form of the person, almost everyone was taken aback. She did not appear to be a man, but rather, had the form of a woman with long black hair covering her private areas.
"Could Fu’en have gender-swapped during the transport?" Keeping this strange thought to himself, Luo’er stepped into the magic array with his gun aimed, and yelled, "Raise your hands above your head or I’ll shoot!"
Upon hearing Luo’er’s voice, the person turned her head slightly, revealing half of her face. Seeing Luo’er, she flashed a mysterious smile and said softly, "Do you want to play rogue, young Luo’er?"
"How can you..." Luo’er faltered for a moment, then suddenly remembered, lowered his gun, and blushed deeply. He turned around and shouted, "Zhu...Teacher Zhu, why is it you?"
"Teacher Zhu?!" Tangmo’s eyes widened, barely believing his own ears.
The person turned out to be none other than their magic teacher from Haiya Academy and a Lieutenant Colonel in the army, Zhuyan Yu.
