Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 562 - 555: Battle In Full Swing
Chapter 562: Chapter 555: Battle In Full Swing
Both of them had switched to semi-automatic shooting mode. The 30-round magazine capacity of their automatic rifles was simply not enough to form a firepower web. Hu Daoke, serving as the support in this situation, had been shifted to the flanks by Luo’er. As a result, it was difficult for them to utilize their firepower advantage from the front, and they could only make up for it by alternating their attacks.
Meanwhile, Cheng Ziang and Shangguan Jiu launched an attack on another front, effectively attracting the attention of part of the enemy and easing the pressure on Luo’er and his team.
Kneeling on the ground with her gun propped up against the fence, Tangmo fired into the logging yard. Several bullets from the enemy were fired over, slicing several slats of the fence in half. Seeing the situation, she pulled out her magic wand and held it in her hand, ready to cast a protective magic shield around herself at any moment.
But Luo’er didn’t have that ability. He could only lie on the ground, pressing himself as close to the ground as possible for cover while shooting to reduce the area that could be hit.
In the first phase, the assault team would try to suppress the enemy as much as possible. With the snipers in the back, they would attempt to draw out the bulk of the enemy forces. Hu Daoke was prepared to execute the second phase, using his powerful firepower to kill as many enemies as possible and disrupt their formation, thereby striking at their morale.
Whether in ancient armament wars or modern hot weapon wars, morale is always one of the most crucial factors determining victory. Wars are always decided by people, not weapons.
The Advance Team’s fighting method never really changed, always preferring swift and aggressive assaults. With a single powerful blow, they would break through enemy lines, scatter their morale, and force them to retreat in disarray.
As the old saying goes, "A single trick, if it works, should be used over and over again." Since entering the Otherworld, the Advance Team had used this tactic several times to defeat enemy forces several times their number.
Of course, Luo’er was well aware that no tactic was invincible. The reason they could so easily vanquish armies many times their size in the past was due to the generally poor organization of the Otherworld’s military.
As previously mentioned, if the Advance Team tried using these tactics against a modern military from Earth, they might well be annihilated. The people they were facing now may be feudal military forces, but they were supported by the CIA. Judging from their deployment and tactics, their fighting power surpassed not only all past enemies of the Advance Team.
Therefore, before entering the second phase, Hu Daoke must remain hidden. He can be considered the Advance Team’s last card up their sleeve. If his position is exposed, the team will be bereft of any trump cards to handle the upcoming twists in the battle.
This is why the four main attackers are risking everything in their assault. They have no time even to find shelter, desperately suppressing the enemy and compelling them to deploy all their forces.
From the start of the battle up until now, the Advance Team have managed to kill or injure fewer than ten people. Meanwhile, the enemy swiftly launched a counterattack. Hidden behind cover, they fired incessantly in the general direction of Luo’er and his team. If not for Luo’er’s constant suppression, these enemies would be preparing to charge.
"Change the magazine!" Luo’er shouted, hurriedly loading a new one. Tangmo, upon hearing the order, immediately begun suppressing the enemy’s fire.
At that moment, a flurry of bullets whizzed towards Tangmo. Instinctively, she murmured a spell and an invisible shield appeared before her. The bullets crashed into the shield like a heavy hammer and then ricocheted into the dirt.
Watching the bullets rebound just in front of her, Tangmo couldn’t help but gasp, staring at Luo’er with lingering fear.
"Are you okay?" Luo’er anxiously asked.
Tangmo didn’t respond verbally, but shook her head slightly.
"Enemies!" Alerted by Luo’er’s alarmed cry, he quickly switched his rifle to fully automatic mode and opened fire towards the distant enemies.
During the gap when Tangmo stopped shooting, the enemy seized this opportunity to reposition, widening their front line. Luo’er knew that once the enemy’s formation was fully opened, their small team wouldn’t be able to hold off their attack.
He shot out half the magazine in one go, killing one enemy in the process. The remaining men, aware of the situation, hastily retreated back to their cover.
However, Luo’er didn’t find much time for relief. Seeing their break through attempt thwarted, the enemy began to recklessly throw grenades. An M67 hand grenade flew out from behind the enemy’s cover, rolling over to Luo’er who was still lying on the ground. With no time to dodge, Luo’er could only abandon his rifle and cover his head.
"Boom!"
The grenade kicked up a thick cloud of dust and exploded violently. Luo’er released his grip, amazed that he was completely unscathed. As he turned to look at Tangmo, he saw her staring blankly at him, a look of disbelief on her face.
Letting out a sigh of relief, Luo’er looked ahead and was taken aback by an invisible barrier that stood before him. Not only did it shield him from the explosion, but it was unaffected by the dust. Fulajie’er had suddenly appeared and was responsible for this all.
"Whew, that was a close one!" Fulajie’er heaved a sigh of relief, confirming that Luo’er was unharmed before dispelling the shield.
Luo’er took a deep breath, but didn’t rush to express his gratitude. An enemy had left his cover and was aiming the gunfire at them.
"Watch out, Moumou!" At Luo’er’s alarmed cry, a bullet rushed straight into Tangmo’s ribs. Tangmo grimaced, let out a low moan, and fell backwards.
"Damn it!" Luo’er cursed, raising his rifle and returning fire at the enemy. However, the opponent smartly ducked behind cover and Luo’er missed with every bullet he fired.
Luo’er rolled around the ground with his rifle, then darted towards Tangmo who lay on the ground, gasping for breath and grimacing. Luo’er quickly reached under her arms, firing back while pulling her backwards.
"Fula, notify Little Ke. Ask the assault team to prepare for retreat and backup to be ready. They have permission to open fire!" Luo’er shouted loudly.
"Received!" Fulajie’er replied, then vanished into thin air.
At this point, the assault team began to retreat into the jungle to evade enemy fire, simultaneously luring them out and preparing for Hu Daoke’s ambush.
Luo’er pulled Tangmo behind a big tree, then abandoned his rifle and began tearing at her clothes to inspect her injuries.
"Luo’er, don’t, don’t undress me..." Tangmo coughed and quickly grabbed his hand, shyly instructing him.
"I’m checking your wound!" Luo’er retorted without lifting his head.
"It didn’t, didn’t penetrate. Seems like it was blocked," Tangmo said.
On hearing her words, Luo’er paused for a moment then checked the spot where she’d been hit. Indeed, the bullet had struck an alloy bullet case filled with bullets situated in her ammo pouch. The high-strength alloy absorbed most of the kinetic energy, leaving a hole where the bullet had struck, but failing to penetrate the opposite side.
"That scared the hell out of me," Luo’er took a deep breath while forcefully removing the horribly distorted bullet.
"You were the one who scared me just now." Tangmo looked at him, her eyes full of tenderness.
"Enough of this. We can talk about it when we get back. Keep fighting," Luo’er said, picking up the rifle from the ground and propping it behind the tree trunk to fire at the enemy.
"Okay!" Tangmo’s face showed a hint of disappointment. She got up and moved behind another tree with her rifle. As she opened fire, her mind was filled with the events that had just transpired, finding her mouth curving into an involuntary grin.
As the assault team fell back, the enemy began to spread out, gearing up for a counter-attack on the advance team. However, Hu Daoke was already prepared, and upon receiving Fulajie’er’s orders, he aimed at the densest part of the crowd and pulled the trigger.
"Ratatatatat!!"
Hu Daoke’s machine gun fire was distinctive. The dense shower of bullets rained down upon the enemy ranks. Several of them were felled before they could even react.
This group originally had a machine gunner. However, Baiyue’s sniper rifle had kept them at bay right from the start, preventing them from firing a single shot. They could only hide behind cover like the rest of the riflemen, enduring the continuous onslaught from their adversaries.
