Otherworld Advance Team
Chapter 559 - 552: Plan Arrangement

Chapter 559: Chapter 552: Plan Arrangement

The group started heading towards their target according to the terrain, just like last time, the Church Court provided intelligence to the headquarters, which then directed the Advance Team to adjust their course. These people were still moving, so the Advance Team had to speed up to keep up with them.

The further west they went, the steeper and more rugged the terrain became. The six of them have been wandering around the mountains for almost five days, barely covering a distance of a hundred kilometers. At this point, almost everyone was on the verge of breaking down. These people refused to traverse the flatlands within Odelanqi territory, and Luo’er even suspected that they were deliberately leading the Advance Team in circles.

It was then that Shangguan Jiu finally understood the reason behind the Advance Team’s grim expression whenever the Masya Mountain area was mentioned. They climbed mountain after mountain, only to go down and climb up another. Because most people prefer to traverse the plains within Odelanqi territory, there were hardly any trails here, forcing the Advance Team to follow the trails made by beasts.

Everyone felt the most envious of Fulajie’er, who could effortlessly hover around in mid-air, able to cover vast distances with a single jump. Unlike them, who had to painfully negotiate the rugged terrain back and forth.

This region was scarcely populated which meant their rations were running scarce. The Advance Team had no choice but to hunt for animals to supplement their food supply to prevent running out.

Though the population of Otherworld had almost doubled in the past thirty years, in comparison to the size of the continent they still seemed too few. Very few people dared to venture into the border area between the Three Kingdoms where the Advance Team currently was. Most preferred to live in places with better amenities. For instance, they only needed to continue north for about two hundred more kilometers, and they’d be in the densely populated Odelanqi Plain, which wasn’t as desolate as their current location.

Nevertheless, hard work finally paid off. Ten days after landing, they gradually neared their quarry. The group was currently positioned halfway up the mountain while their targets settled at the foot of it, doing nothing as if they were plotting something.

The Advance Team found a dilapidated house halfway up the mountain that seemed like a temporary dwelling of a hunter. They quickly patched up the house to serve as their temporary base.

Thanks to their targets coming to a halt, the Advance Team finally got a brief respite. They now had ample time to hunt for food to avoid a shortage of supplies.

The sniper team, primarily made up of Baiyue and Hu Daoke, undertook hunting duties. Considering their targets were at the foot of the mountain, they only hunted on the other side of it and installed silencers to avoid alarming their targets.

The number of game caught by the sniper team largely depended on luck. On a good day, they were stuffed and still had some reserves. On a bad day, the six of them only had a single roast chicken, and Hu Daoke would even pick clean the bones.

It was said that the headquarters back on Earth was still playing cat and mouse with the CIA, engaging in a global tug-of-war. The headquarters had hoped to capture Fu’en directly on Earth so the Advance Team only stood on standby as a contingency.

With the situation on Earth going smoothly, the headquarters didn’t dispatch the airboat to resupply the Advance Team but instead asked it to make round trips between Ilanadale, loaded to the brim each time. The Advance Team thus stayed put here. If things went awry on Earth, they could retreat without even engaging in a single bout.

Everyone sat in the cabin, listening to Luo’er reading the briefing. With Fulajie’er around, they no longer needed to send someone to stand guard. Fulajie’er alone could conduct a patrol within a hundred-meter radius in a few minutes regardless of the time of day.

Technically, ghosts didn’t need rest, but the former ghosts returned to rest at daybreak because they adhered to their biological clocks. In other words, they still treated themselves as humans, not ghosts.

Moreover, since Fulajie’er could project herself over a vast range, Luor didn’t need to assign any recon duty to observe their targets at the foot of the mountain. Fulajie’er herself could handle the reconnaissance. But she was still not very familiar with reconnaissance reports, so Luo’er often had to take some time when making records.

"Looks like the headquarters is using us as a reserve. If they capture Fu’en directly on Earth, we can just trek our way back home." Hu Daoke couldn’t help but complain.

"But, Fu’en is still in his Earthling state, incapable of using magic, what use would it be for Headquarters if they caught him?" Shangguan Jiu couldn’t help but ask.

"Don’t forget, the reason Headquarters wants Fu’en is not because his magic is powerful, but because he has the method to open the Otherworld Gate. In other words, what Headquarters needs is the knowledge in his head, not him to open the Otherworld Gate." Cheng Ziang explained calmly.

"Yeah, Headquarters is full of talents, it’s not like they need another mage, right?" Hu Daoke agreed.

"Regardless, we still have to prepare for the worst. According to Fula’s intelligence, I roughly mapped out the terrain and the distribution of these people," Luo’er said, placing a somewhat rough map in front of many, and continued, "Look, at the foot of the mountain there is a road that leads from the Odelanqi Plain to Oudallo territory. This group is hidden in an abandoned logging yard by the road. They are roughly thirty people, mostly equipped with NATO standardized weapons. And they have all kinds of light and heavy weapons. Fula doesn’t understand their weapon classifications, so I drew them based on her descriptions. The enemy’s primary weapons are FAL rifles and G3 rifles which use standard NATO bullets, they also have several general-purpose and light machine guns. Their firepower is incredibly fierce, we can’t beat them in a direct confrontation."

"Again with being outnumbered; in the past, we could rely on superior weaponry to win. But now, their weapons are better than ours, how can we fight this battle?" Hu Daoke couldn’t help shaking his head and complaining.

"It’s not that their weapons are necessarily better than ours, though ours are all light weapons, our firepower is definitely stronger than theirs. G3 rifles and FAL rifles mostly use 7.62X51 NATO bullets, these bullets have too much recoil, so they can only fire in bursts. Not counting their machine guns, their firepower is slightly weaker than ours. The Vietnam War taught us that while penetration power of weapons is important, in jungle warfare, firepower is the key to victory." Cheng Ziang calmly said.

"I swear, weren’t you a knife user? When did you become so familiar with firearms?" Hu Daoke glanced at Cheng Zi’ang, expressing disbelief.

In reality, Hu Daoke understood everything Cheng Zi’ang was saying. After all, as the team’s support, Hu Daoke is not just a big guy who can only shoot and start fires. Despite his usually foolish appearance, he did graduate high school. His level of knowledge is surely higher than most people in the Otherworld.

"To know your enemy and yourself is the key to victory." Cheng Zi’ang looked at him and replied seriously.

"You’re just scared of firearms, that’s why you don’t use them." Hu Daoke glanced at him, trying to hold back a laugh.

"Alright, everyone quieten down a bit. Our tactics remain the same: make use of the element of surprise, thoroughly knock them off balance in one go, thus losing their will to fight. Even though they’ve received some training from Earthlings, we have grown too, especially with Fula’s help. Even if we cannot take them down, we won’t be in too tough of a spot."

"Ah, you finally mentioned me!" Fulajie’er excitedly appeared out of thin air again.

"Xiao Fula, you should come help me this time, I am a main force of the team, the boss can just command from the back." Hu Daoke spoke to her.

"No way," Fulajie’er stuck her tongue out at him and then said, "You were clearly scared of me last time, and now you want me to help you."

"That was so long ago, why are you still holding on to that." Hu Daoke said with a wry smile.

"I don’t care, I already belong to Luo’er, I want to stay by his side!" Fulajie’er decided to start circling Luo’er.

"Don’t say that kind of stuff lightly." Luo’er wiped away some cold sweat and sneaked a glance at the gloomy-looking Tangmo.
