Chapter 527: Chapter 520: Reaching a Consensus
"Wow, Fulajie’er is so cute and pretty!" Upon seeing Fulajie’er, who had already transformed into her human form, Hu Daoke let go of his fear and clapped his hands in genuine admiration.
"Humph, you were scared of me just now, so I’ll ignore you." Fulajie’er sniffed and immediately turned her head away.
"No, listen to me, I was just scared by this mischief-maker." Hu Daoke took a step forward, waving his hands as he explained.
"Stay focused, man!" Cheng Ziang, standing behind him, kicked him lightly, shaking his head with a smile.
"Focused...what does that mean?" Fulajie’er floated in front of Cheng Ziang, her head tipped to one side as she asked curiously.
"Uh, um..." In the face of her innocent expression, Cheng Ziang coughed once, then said, "Kids shouldn’t ask questions only adults can understand."
"I am not a kid." Fulajie’er pouted her lips and floated away in a huff.
Fulajie’er circled around the Magic Array. It seemed that she was calling for her companions, but no one could hear her voice. Apparently, ghosts have their own way of communicating, which they couldn’t perceive. Luo’er couldn’t hear her either, but he could clearly feel magical fluctuations around him.
It was a strange and unusual fluctuation. When Luo’er asked about it, not only Cheng Ziang and Hu Daoke, even Nightingale with her high magical attainment, couldn’t feel it. Surprisingly, Luoya, who had never learned magic sensing, also felt it.
Obviously, both Luoya and Luo’er were half-elves. This suggests that these fluctuations can only be detected by those with the lineage of elves.
Of course, Luo’er and Luoya could only sense the magical fluctuations. As for how Fulajie’er was calling for her companions and what she was trying to convey, the two siblings had no idea.
"Ah, you guys are here!" Suddenly, Fulajie’er exclaimed in delight. Accompanying her exclamation, light orbs appeared around the brightly lit Magic Array, which were particularly conspicuous under the illumination of the Array, looking like planar clusters floating in the air.
On seeing so many ghost magic clusters, Luoya whimpered and clung to Luo’er’s arm tightly, burying her head in his chest. Hu Daoke let out a shock and almost fumbled for breath.
"Fula, you actually have a body now, that’s amazing! Is it because you’re standing in this Magic Array?" They heard a girl’s voice full of astonishment. The voice was as ethereal as ever, truly resonating with the soul.
"Fula, Fula, how did you do it? Why can’t I change?" They heard another girl’s voice full of anxiety. Accompanying her voice, they saw a conspicuous magic cluster wandering back and forth within the Magic Array.
"This body was specially made for me by my sister, so you guys might not be able to change, sorry." Fulajie’er floated to the middle of the Magic Array, then cradled the magic cluster in her hands, speaking kindly.
"It’s so nice to have a sister." The magic cluster obediently rolled about in her hands, speaking in an envious tone.
Luo’er strained to pry Luoya off himself, handed her over to Cheng Ziang, then he took a step forward, slighted bowed and said respectfully, "Good evening everyone, my name is Luo’er."
"Ah, he’s saying good evening, how cute!"
"He is not afraid of us, yay!"
"Look, look, he’s a half-elf, he’s a half-elf!"
Around them came the excited chattering of the girls and Luo’er, not knowing how to respond, was momentarily dumbfounded on the spot.
"Enough with the noise!" Fulajie’er flitted about, capturing each magic cluster and holding them tightly, not letting them run off. Although her body was now substantial, she could still touch and move the magic clusters.
"This is Luo’er from Otherworld, he is here to save us." Fulajie’er floated into the middle of the Magic Array holding a pile of magic clusters, setting them down in front of her, then looking at Luo’er as she spoke.
The magic clusters looked like slimes, and given this setup, they strangely looked quite cute.
"Are there elves in Otherworld too?" A magic cluster floated around Luo’er, asking curiously.
"Of course, there are." Luo’er looked at it, nodding as he replied.
"Oh, I remember you guys. You came last time and seemed to disturb those people." Another magic cluster floated to Luo’er’s other side, its voice showing a sudden realization.
"Yes, our goal is to thwart this plan and rescue everyone. So, I’m hoping all of you can help us," Luo’er told them.
"Aww, he’s asking us for a favor. Isn’t he gentlemanly!" exclaimed a ghost with a giddy tone.
"Hmm, and how can we assist you?" another magic cluster floated over to Luo’er, whirling around him as it inquired.
"I would like to know about the layout inside the base and the movement of its personnel," Luo’er said seriously.
"Layout... Personnel... Movement..." They clearly found these Earth-based terms unfamiliar.
"Luo’er wants to know how to navigate inside, where he might encounter people, so they can infiltrate quietly without being detected," Fulajie’er explained.
"I get it, I get it!" An animated magic cluster swung frantically in front of him upon hearing her explanation. Her voice was lively and naive, indicating that she was probably a vibrant girl when she was alive.
"I’ve actually been to many places inside. Although others say some areas are inaccessible due to sparse magical energy, I always manage to find ways around them," the girl stated proudly.
"That’s great! Can you help me then?" Luo’er asked eagerly.
"Of course! But once you get inside, you must promise to save me first!" The magic cluster hovered up and down a few rounds in the air before speaking.
Oddly enough, Luo’er felt these ghosts had a penchant for excessive exclamatives when speaking, not just Fulajie’er.
"Ah, that’s not fair! You should rescue me first. I know many hidden places too, like the pipes beneath this base." Another magic cluster chirped in, not willing to be outdone, and started wrangling with the first one.
It looked more like two magic clusters tangling playfully with each other, strangely adorable.
"Alright, alright, all of you, stop fighting. I’ll save everyone once I’m inside. There’s no priority order," Luo’er amicably interjected, trying to keep the peace.
"He’s such a kind man," a magic cluster circled around Luo’er while clinging to him, cooing "can I be your little sister when you’ve rescued me?"
"Huh?" Luo’er was taken aback.
The notion of having a little sister had never really crossed his mind. Besides, most of these ghost girls had only turned into ghosts within the last twenty years or so. They weren’t much younger than him.
"No, you can’t!" Surprisingly, Luoya who had been hiding away nervously rallied her courage to speak up. She firmly rebuffed the ghost girl’s suggestion for Luo’er.
"Why can’t I?" The girl sounded aggrieved and floated straight towards Cheng Ziang and Luoya who stood behind Luo’er.
"No more fuss," Fulajie’er stepped forward, caught the magic cluster and tucked it into her arms.
"I’m sorry about that, they seldom have contact with outsiders, so their speech can be a little rude," Fulajie’er apologized.
"That’s alright. They must be lonely, which would explain why they seek such things," Luo’er understandingly shook his head.
The magic cluster set up by Nightingale had energy that could last for a few hours. As the magic crystal she brought wasn’t enough, the glow from the magic array weakened over time, causing Fulajie’er’s body to become more transparent.
Before she completely disappeared, Luo’er had Hu Daoke grab a pen and paper to interview the ghosts about the situation inside the base. Oddly enough, once Hu Daoke got familiar with the ghosts, he loosened up even more than Luo’er. He made flippant remarks that amused the magic clusters who started to swirl around him, leaving Luo’er somewhat sidelined.
With the joint efforts of Luo’er, Hu Daoke and the Nightingale sisters, they had a preliminary understanding of the base. All they had to do now was to send this data back to the airboat and combine it with the aerial photos to get detailed data of the base’s interior.
What’s more commendable is that all these ghosts were willing to help the advance team accomplish their mission. So, they would receive assistance from these ghosts whether they decided to infiltrate or storm the base.
The greatest strength of these ghosts lies in their formlessness and swiftness in the air, providing comprehensive reconnaissance. What’s even more valuable is that only those with elven blood can sense their paths. Even great mages among ordinary people may fail to detect their presence.
