Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 494 - 487: Nightingale
Chapter 494: Chapter 487: Nightingale
With the matter in Ilanadale settled, the Judgement Legion’s expedition was once again put on the agenda. According to Li Si, the Judgement Legion had suffered severe losses this time. Although they had come close to the Ancient States’ creating god base, their numbers had seriously diminished.
Up to now, most of the Judgement Legion had been wiped out. According to their own accounts, including Dina, the legion commander, and Hillna the mage, the entire legion numbered less than fifty people. There’s no denying the severe losses.
Because of this, the Church Court’s attitude towards the Headquarters had a noticeable change. A few days ago, a cardinal from the Church Court visited the headquarters in Yazhi City and, in a passive manner, requested assistance.
This was the first time the Church Court had relented in their cooperating with the Headquarters. To date, if the headquarters’ personnel did not lend a hand, the Judgement Legion would not be able to complete the mission of destroying the Ancient States’ Creating God Plan, let alone returning alive.
Unlike the Headquarters, the Judgement Legion’s movements would be easily tracked by the Ancient States, thus revealing their activities there. The headquarters were not in a state of hostility with the Ancient States, so asking the Advance Team to assist the Judgement Legion was indeed one of the best choices.
More importantly, the Headquarters could lease airboats from the High-peak people to use as mobility transport platforms, something the Church Court could not do. Basically, other than the Headquarters, no one else could lease an airboat from the High-peak people.
The Church Court hoped that with the high mobility of the airboats, the headquarters could directly assist them in this mission. They had planned to accomplish this task themselves, but now it seemed they were willing but unable. So at the Pope’s prompting, the Church Court publicly shared all the information about the Ancient States’ Creating God Plan with the Headquarters, and the reason for the headquarters’ choice to assist was this plan.
Photocopies of the Ancient States’ Creating God Plan were brought back to Earth for study. After being simulated by a supercomputer, the conclusion was that the plan was viable.
What this means is that the Ancient States could really create a god, no matter how absurd it sounds, but it is feasible. Earthlings, who advocate materialism, find it hard to believe that the Ancient States could create something they referred to as a god. However, the results of the computer’s calculations told them that such a plan was feasible.
Realizing the seriousness of the situation, the headquarters held an internal meeting and decided to fully assist the Church Court in this operation. In any case, they would not allow the Otherworld to have unexpected complications before the Headquarters have total control over it. The CIA may not be in harmony with the Headquarters, but their stances on such issues were alarmingly consistent.
After unloading the goods, the airboat was much lighter. Murong and the others had been arranged to instruct the defense forces of Divine Wood Down in using new weapons, while the Advance Team was summoned onto the airboat by Li Si.
Upon entering the main gate, they arrived at the cargo hold first. Climbing the stairs from the cargo hold, they could reach the airboat’s deck. This airboat was also a semi-open design, so the open-air deck was still preserved.
Walking along the deck to the rear, they entered a large cabin. This used to be the captain’s room, but it had now been temporarily converted into an office area for Li Si.
In the dimly lit office, several magic crystal lamps emitted a faint glow, filling the entire room with a tranquil ambiance. The reason for the dimness was due to the A4 papers plastered all over the windows and walls, filled with a jumble of alphabetic words.
"I’ve told you so many times, this is also my workspace, can you tidy it up a bit?" Li Si helplessly said, looking at the sight before him. It was Chinese that he was speaking.
"No, my time is precious. I don’t want to waste it on such meaningless activities." A soft feminine voice echoed from inside. The voice was gentle and pleasant, but it was also surprisingly standard Chinese that she was speaking.
Hearing the woman’s response, Li Si sighed helplessly. While squatting and tidying up, he called to the others, "Come in, just don’t step on these documents."
A dark figure appeared from the deep depths of the dim office. She was a woman in black. She was wearing a black mage’s robe and a pointed magic hat.
Upon noticing their entrance, the woman leisurely walked out. She was cloaked in black, her skin was unnaturally white, and she wore huge round gold-rimmed glasses over her face.
She seemed to be in her thirties, emanating an intellectual aura. While her appearance was gentle, her eyes were always half-closed, creating the impression that she never fully woke up.
Upon noticing the arrival of the Advance Team, the woman lifted her head to look at them. When she saw Luo’er, a strange look appeared in her emotionless eyes.
In the woman’s hands was a large dictionary. After merely glancing at the members of the Advance Team, she lowered her head again and continued flipping through her dictionary.
"This is..." Facing this woman, Luo’er felt an inexplicable flutter in his heart, mysteriously filled with affection and respect.
"Oh, I forgot to introduce you all." Li Si stood up from the ground with a stack of papers in his hand, and then introduced, "This is Nightingale, you can just call her Nightingale. You may not recognize her, but you’ve been communicating with her for a long time."
"Communicating?" Luo’er looked at her, puzzled.
"I’m the one who receives your magic messages." The woman casually said, flipping through the dictionary without lifting her head.
Her Chinese was extremely standard, the kind of standard where you couldn’t tell her accent. What shocked everyone was the realization that this woman, called Nightingale, was not an Earthling at all, but an authentic Otherworlder. If Luo’er was not mistaken, she was neither from the Aud people nor the Bobulu people, which left only one explanation: she was from the Ancient States.
"For this mission, I will command you directly from the airboat, so I brought Miss Nightingale. By the way, Miss Nightingale is from the Ancient States, and she is quite familiar with the Ancient States’ Creating God Plan." Li Si introduced.
"Hello, Sister Nightingale, my name is Luo’er." Luo’er respectfully said.
"I know you, Luo’er, the Pearl of Haiya Academy." Nightingale calmly replied.
"Um..." Luo’er was speechless in response to her words. Because of his appearance, he had once been hailed as the Pearl of Haiya Academy, receiving adoration from most people, including both women and men.
"You actually called me ’Sister,’ you do have a sweet mouth." Nightingale looked up and smiled at Luo’er, her gaze full of affection.
Seeing Nightingale’s actions and gaze, Tangmo immediately pulled a long face, staring at her unhappily. Nightingale’s demeanor made her feel threatened, afraid that Luo’er might be stolen away by her.
"You don’t have to view me as an enemy, little Miss Tangmo. Luo’er is not my type. You don’t need to worry about me stealing him away." Nightingale said, looking down at her dictionary.
"I’m not viewing you as an enemy!" Tangmo covered her face in embarrassment, turned around, and loudly retorted, her true thoughts exposed.
"Seems like Sister Nightingale knows all of us already. I guess we don’t need to introduce one by one, right?" Luo’er commented.
"That would be convenient, saving me the trouble of responding to each of you." Nightingale said, without looking up.
"Uh..." Nightingale’s indifferent attitude made Luo’er feel a bit awkward. She emanated a calm, peaceful aura, making everyone standing in front of her sometimes feel as though they didn’t dare even breathe.
"Oh, by the way, Nightingale is here not only as a liaison officer, but she also plans to study the Ancient States’ Creating God Plan and aid our operation this time." Li Si introduced.
"Sister Nightingale, you’re from the Ancient States, right?" Luo’er asked.
"Yes!" Nightingale nodded, closed her dictionary, and casually set it on the table.
"Put things back where they belong after you use them!" Seeing her action, Li Si couldn’t help but complain again.
"In that case, why are you helping us sabotage the Creating God Plan of the Ancient States?" Luo’er asked cautiously.
