Otherworld Advance Team
Chapter 446 - 439: Noah

Chapter 446: Chapter 439: Noah

"What’s the matter?" The girl asked him, furrowing her eyebrows as she focused on him.

"No, nothing!" Luo’er waved his hand, deciding not to pursue it any further.

For some inexplicable reason, from the first moment he laid eyes on the girl, he felt a sense of familiarity. As a result, he began to question whether he was becoming as fickle as a breath of air due to his numerous encounters with young women.

Although the girl before him had not displayed any friendly expressions from the start, he had no strong feelings of disgust or indifference towards her. Instead, whenever she looked at him, he felt an inner warmth.

Upon hearing Luo’er’s words, the girl scanned him up and down, her eyebrows still furrowed, then asked hesitantly, "Why do you dress differently from the others?"

Dressed in a tactically styled vest mimicking Otherworld fashion, with bulletproof panels embedded within the modular adventuring outfit and various defensive and offensive equipment all over his body, Luo’er’s outfit was not so much strange as it was a step above compared to other Theron.

"This is Earth’s style, haven’t you seen it?" In response to the girl’s question, Luo’er didn’t panic at all and calmly explained.

His subconscious mind told him that the girl he was talking to wouldn’t hurt him. This was the first time he felt this way about someone he’d just met since his arrival in the Otherworld.

"What Earth style? It’s hideous!" The girl said dismissively.

"Oh well," Luo’er shrugged, then said, "I should get back to my team now. What are you planning on doing?"

"Who were those people you just killed?" The girl swiftly asked.

"Ah, those were just the foot soldiers from the Judgment Legion, nothing important." Luo’er replied nonchalantly.

"And what about the man you threw down there?" The girl hastily asked.

"I kicked him down." Luo’er corrected.

"Whatever, who is he?" The girl asked somewhat testily.

"Why are you so grumpy? We are on the same side after all." Luo’er inquired as he looked at her.

"None of your business, just tell me who he is?" The girl said curtly.

"Okay, that guy was probably a bishop or some such person from the Judgment Legion." Luo’er replied.

"And why did he come with you to this place?" The girl asked right away.

"Uh..." Luo’er felt a pang in his heart, thinking he may have given something away. However, looking at the girl’s puzzled expression, she probably hadn’t guessed his relationship with Kroel just yet.

"Why did you stop speaking?" The girl asked with a furrowed brow.

"Heh heh," Luo’er chuckled softly, and then calmly explained, "Lies can lead lambs calmly into the belly of a hungry wolf."

"Is that so?" The girl, her eyebrows still furrowed, asked dubiously.

"Well, you never believed me anyway, why should I bother explaining?" Luo’er retorted.

"Perfect! If I bring him back, the leader should agree to let me join the Theron!" The girl said, her face lighting up with excitement.

"Uh, aren’t you a Theron already?" Luo’er squinted at her and asked.

"That..." Realising her slip of the tongue, the girl quickly covered her mouth and then defiantly said to Luo’er, "I... I will be soon!"

"Alright, good luck!" With that, Luo’er turned to leave.

"Wait, you can’t leave yet!" The girl protested anxiously.

"Is there anything else?" Luo’er turned around to ask her.

"You need to verify for me, otherwise the leader will not believe that I alone killed the Bishop of the Judgement Legion," The girl declared while looking at him.

"The bishop wasn’t killed by you. What are you fretting about?" Luo’er shook his head, amused yet exasperated.

"But," The girl stomped on the ground in frustration before imploring, "Since you’re already a Theron, why not give this opportunity to me!"

"Shouldn’t you be asking me for help then?" Luo’er reasoned.

"This..." she paused, momentarily taken aback, before diverting her gaze. Her pride seemed to prevent her from bowing down to others.

However, to become an official Theron, she seemed determined to set her pride aside. After much struggle, she finally grudgingly lowered her proud head and nervously said, "Um... please... can you help me...?"

Looking at her, Luo’er let out a sigh. He ought to reject her request without hesitation. Accompanying her to locate the Theron leader could only mean trouble for him. But for some reason, rather than rejecting her outright, he decided to agree after some thoughtful consideration.

"Alright, I’ll go with you, but you’ll have to explain everything to the leader. I’m not getting involved," he said, sighing.

"Great, I knew you were a good person!" Upon hearing Luo’er’s words, the girl almost jumped with joy.

The first time Luo’er saw her smile, it was so sweet and infectious that he couldn’t help but feel happy for her. Her hood slowly slid down due to her animated gestures, revealing her light-colored hair.

Looking at her cascading light-colored hair, Luo’er felt a sense of déjà vu. It was as if he were seeing his own mother standing in front of him. In his memory, his mother, Nina, had the same light-colored hair, and even the color was very similar to the girl’s.

A thought crossed Luo’er’s mind, and he promptly asked, "What’s your name?"

"Me?" The girl was taken aback for a moment, then pointed to herself, and replied with a smile, "I’m Noah!"

"Noah..." Luo’er repeated the name, frowning.

"What’s wrong?" The girl asked him.

"Nothing," Luo’er shook his head in response.

"You haven’t told me your name yet!" Noah said to him.

"I’m Luo’er!" Luo’er replied succinctly.

"Luo’er!?" Upon hearing this name, Noah suddenly shivered. The smile on her face froze in an instant.

"What’s wrong?" Luo’er asked, looking at her.

"No," Noah shook her head. She looked up at Luo’er, inspecting him carefully. She finally couldn’t help but ask, "Aren’t you Nuo’er?"

"No, I’m Luo’er. Why would you ask such a name?" Luo’er did not quite understand her reaction.

"No, it’s nothing!" The girl shook her head. However, no smile appeared on her face afterwards.

"Let’s get moving. We need to check if that old guy is dead and get some proof from him!" Luo’er urged.

He had already decided to accompany Noah down to get some evidence off Kroel and then send her away. After all, the Advance Team was part of the Judgement Legion. If they caught him associating with Theron’s people, jumping into the Forbidden Sea couldn’t cleanse his name.

"Let’s go, No...Luo’er!" After sizing him up, Noah followed him down the cliff.

The two of them struggled along a goat-path that someone had created and finally reached the bottom of the cliff. This dense jungle made it hard to tell where Kroel landed.

The two of them then searched separately and eventually found Kroel’s corpse in a cluster of bushes.

By then, Kroel was already dead. His forehead bore a hole, his back of his head blown by a bullet, with blood and white brain matter scattering around. His face still sported the expression he had before his death: eyes wide open and mouth agape. Several unknown bugs crawled in and out of his mouth, having enough to consume from the corpse.

Noah was clearly inexperienced. Although she didn’t hesitate to kill, she didn’t have the mental fortitude of a veteran like Luo’er. Upon seeing Kroel’s corpse, she turned pale, almost vomiting.

"How did you kill just now?" Luo’er looked at her reactions, shaking his head.

He walked over to crouch in front of Kroel, holding the chin to inspect the wounds on his head, showing no fear. Kroel’s skin had become cold, but his limbs still had some movement, and there was no sign of rigor mortis yet.

"Is he...is he dead?" Noah asked, standing a distance away with a pale face.

"Yes, he’s probably in Hell already!" Luo’er turned around Kroel’s head, looked at the bloody hole at the back. He spoke casually.

"Even in death, he remains filthy..." Luo’er mumbled to himself, glancing at the greasy residue on his hands. He wiped them off on Kroel’s clothes with an expression of disgust.

After cleaning his fingers, he saw a gold-plated chain around Kroel’s neck. He opened Kroel’s collar to reveal a personal pendant. The pendant, made of gold and jewels, was beautifully crafted with a strong religious aura.

He grabbed the pendant, yanked it off from Kroel’s neck forcefully, and tossed it to Noah who stood frozen in fear. "This is the pendant of a bishop from the Church of Light. Each one is unique. Bring this to your leader, and they should believe your story!"

"What a beautiful pendant..." Noah said as she looked at the pendant in her hand. However, remembering it came from a corpse, a wave of nausea washed over her.

"How did you manage to kill him, looking like this?" Luo’er asked her again.

"Just by shooting an arrow. Who cares how these people die?" Noah turned her head away in embarrassment, defiantly responding.

"Alright, you’ve obtained the thing now. It’s time for me to go." Luo’er turned to leave.

"Where are you going? Shouldn’t you join the fight?" Noah pointed toward the battlefield, asking with a frown.

"Sorry. My mission ends with killing this guy!" Luo’er glanced at her and spoke casually. Once he confirmed that Noah wasn’t with Theron, lying seemed much easier to him.

"But you promised me to accompany me to meet the leader!" Noah called out behind him.

"I need to join back up with my comrades. You should handle this yourself with this thing. If you can’t even do this, I don’t think you need to be with Theron anymore!" Luo’er turned back to her.

"Are you really not going to accompany me?" Noah asked him.

"No, I have many things to do!" Luo’er sighed.

For some reason, Luo’er had a soft spot for Noah. Despite having the opportunity to leave straightaway, he found it hard to disregard Noah’s pleas.
