Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 437 - 430: Departure
Chapter 437: Chapter 430: Departure
"Elves..." The two sisters stared at Luo’er. His facial features and temperament exuded an elven aura; his dark green pupils and pointed, drooping ears were especially striking.
As Saint Basaya is an important passageway connecting the north and south, the sisters had seen half-elves before, whether they be Wood Elves or Night Elves. However, they had never met a half-elf like Luo’er, who exuded an indescribable aura.
Olavia couldn’t quite describe the nature of this aura. All she knew was that when standing in front of Luo’er, she was overwhelmed by his invisible aura and felt compelled to submit - a feeling she never got from other half-elves she’d met before.
"How should I address you?" Luo’er stepped forward and asked respectfully.
"Olavia, my name is Olavia!" Olavia replied without hesitation.
She gazed blankly at Luo’er, whose aura seemed that of a leader. Every word he spoke felt like a command.
"I, I, I’m called Ona..." The younger sister hugged Olavia tightly and responded shyly.
"Nice to meet you both, my name is Luo’er, I am a half-elf. I apologise for any offense caused earlier." Luo’er spoke respectfully.
"Are...are you apologising to us?" Olavia asked in alarm.
"Of course, I had no other choice earlier, so..." Luo’er started explaining.
Before Luo’er could finish his sentence, Olavia blurted out: "No, no, you don’t need to apologise to us. We’re not worthy."
"Huh, what’s this about?" Even the cosmopolitan Luo’er was taken aback by this reaction.
"They both suffer from low self-esteem, they seem to have no concept of equality." Tangmo tip-toed, pulling Luo’er’s long ear close to whisper gently.
"Oh, so that’s it." Luo’er nodded.
"Easy there, no need for such reactions or fear. We won’t harm you, and we’re not treating you as slaves." Luo’er opened his hands in a soothing gesture.
"Please forgive our impudence, Lord Luo’er." The sisters clung together, speaking cautiously.
"Uh..." Luo’er was slightly at loss on how to handle the situation. The two sisters were like octopuses, clinging onto each other tightly when panicked, leaving him helpless.
"Luo’er, why don’t you leave first while we stay to console them?" Tangmo suggested.
"No, we can’t do that. They need to get used to all of us. If they panic every time someone new comes in, who can stand that in the long run?" Luo’er turned to look at them irritably.
With that, he stepped forward regardless of their intense reaction, stared at them patiently and said, "Listen carefully, we mean you no harm. That includes me and the two outside. So do us a favor and stop overreacting. Don’t forget that you are guilty and stepping out of this tent means certain death. So listen to us, do as we say, and stop screaming at every turn, understand?"
"Ye-ye-yes..." Faced with Luo’er’s intimidating aura, the two sisters turned pale and nodded, trembling as they responded.
"Alright, start eating and stay in here quietly after you finish." Seeing that they had backed down, Luo’er dropped his stern demeanor and issued a command.
"Yes, yes..." The sisters nodded rapidly.
"They only respond to toughness..." Luo’er looked at them, shook his head, and muttered to himself.
After some consideration, he decided to have Tangmo and Baiyue talk to them, allowing them to gradually adapt to their surroundings. Luo’er was already getting a headache just thinking about coming back to share the tent with them at night; he’d much rather spend time with Hu Daoke and Cheng Ziang.
Luo’er walked out of the tent and saw that the sky was turning darker and drizzling rain was falling. The few Judgement Knights were still observing them from a distance. Having nothing else to do, Hu Daoke and Cheng Ziang each set up a folding canvas chair and continued their standoff with the knights.
"What are you doing?" Luo’er couldn’t help asking when he saw the comical poses of the two.
"This is called a sit-in war!" Hu Daoke slouched in a canvas chair, arms crossed as he spoke.
"Never thought you’d also indulge his nonsense..." Luo’er glanced at Cheng Ziang, shaking his head in disbelief.
"I’m just resting!" protested Cheng Ziang, flopping down in his canvas chair, arms crossed over his chest, staring at the distant judgement knights.
"These guys really don’t want to go away, probably hoping to steal a march on us." Luo’er, frowning, eyed the distant knights.
"And that’s why I wanted you to sleep in a tent. In case they suddenly attacked, not only would those two girls suffer, but even Sister Moumou and Yue’er could be affected." Hu Daoke explained.
What Hu Daoke was saying was reasonable. Although Tangmo and Baiyue were skilled fighters, they were girls nonetheless. They could not match the physical strength of grown men, especially not that of the battle-hardened brutes in the Judgement Legion.
"Regardless, we need to watch over those two from now on to prevent these people from interfering. Even though our headquarters and the Church Court cooperate, previous experiences show that the Church essentially holds no command outside the Holy City, creating chaos while licking the boots of the higher-ups." Luo’er said seriously.
The Judgement Legion spent just one evening in this small town, but it resulted in several deaths and multiple women being mistreated. If the Advance Team hadn’t intervened in time, the Olavia Sisters would have been defiled by now.
However, the Advance Team’s power was limited and they couldn’t help everyone. They were only able to protect the sisters. For Luo’er, this was a regret.
After a day and a night of interaction, the Olavia Sisters finally opened their hearts to Tangmo and Baiyue. Luo’er arranged for them to rest inside the carriage with the girls, and the three men rode behind on their horses.
After a night’s drizzle, the sky had finally dried, and while there were still overcast clouds covering the sun, at least the annoying rain had stopped.
"In my opinion, the Judgement Legion are just a bunch of scum. Executing them all might be unjust, but if we don’t, there will surely be those who slip through." Hu Daoke grumbled indignantly.
They spoke Chinese, knowing that the Judgement Legion wouldn’t understand it, so they spoke quite loudly.
"Let it go, we need their help at present, let’s just bear with them." Luo’er waved dismissively, trying to soothe their anger.
"Why must our headquarters cooperate with such an organization?" Hu Daoke asked bewilderedly.
"The headquarters has a principle: it does not interfere in the internal affairs of others. Simply put, even though we know the Church is a corrupt and brutal organization, as long as they benefit us, we can cooperate with them, and we won’t interfere with their brutal policies." Luo’er explained.
"Isn’t that just colluding with them?" Hu Daoke responded, confused.
"Are you dumb? That’s just how it is. The reason we don’t interfere is that we can’t. If we were in control, see if the headquarters wouldn’t step in." Cheng Ziang retorted with a roll of his eyes.
"Ah, is that so?" Hu Daoke exclaimed in surprise, casting a glance at Luo’er.
"Pretty much. We can control their affairs now, but we have a stalemate with the Church and can’t interfere with their internal affairs. When we get the upper hand, we’ll have a say in the Church’s affairs." Luo’er stated.
"Oh, when will that day come!" Hu Daoke responded, seemingly enlightened, but soon started his needless worrying again.
"Why so pessimistic? Think about Ronisca, in the end, they were still thoroughly managed by the instructor." Cheng Ziang pointed out.
"Yeah, but they are a dwarf nation." Hu Daoke interjected.
"If we can control Ronisca, then we can control the Church. Don’t forget, for the thirty years of Earth’s interaction with Otherworld, Earth’s people have always been the leading force. This situation will not change over the next hundred years. Unless Otherworlders can undergo three industrial revolutions in one hundred years, those that should act as dogs must act as dogs, and those who resist should be killed!" Cheng Ziang explained.
"Right now, we’re competing with the CIA’s NATO for dominance in Otherworld. Once we’ve fully controlled Otherworld, we can spread Earth’s ideology there. But now isn’t the time, so we must turn a blind eye." Luo’er explained.
"Oh, after hearing you guys say all this, I feel like our burdens are heavy. We have a long way to go and must encourage each other to spread the fresh wind of socialism in Otherworld." After the persuasion, Hu Daoke finally showed a smile of satisfaction, speaking gleefully.
