Otherworld Advance Team
Chapter 427 - 420: New Equipment

Chapter 427: Chapter 420: New Equipment

With the passage of time, they soon arrived at the third day. During these three days, the Headquarters staff had been busy dealing with the weapons and equipment for the Advance Team.

At this point, snow had already started to fall in the north. However, according to estimates, the temperature in the south should still be warmer. After all, the Ancient States are close to the equator and have a tropical and subtropical climate. Therefore, the Equipment Department prepared two sets of clothes for them for winter and summer, allowing them to change their outfits based on their needs.

Apart from these two sets of clothes, Tangmo and Baiyue secretly packed a set of clothes for girls, planning to present them in front of Luo’er’s mother. If they could earn Luo’er’s mother’s approval, they would be able to secure their relationship with Luo’er, making it virtually unshakeable.

The group followed Li Si to the armory to change into their prepared gear. Last time, the bulletproof inserts they installed played a crucial role, reducing the casualty rate of the Advance Team to a minimum. This time, the headquarters prepared a kind of flexible bulletproof insert for them.

This insert was almost like fabric, somewhat similar to linen. It could be folding and kneading at will, but once encountering a speedy object, the insert would instantly harden a large section, thus resisting the impact of the bullet.

The staff at the Otherworld Weapons Research Center conducted hundreds of experiments and fired tens of thousands of bullets to ensure that these bulletproof inserts could effectively withstand the close-range, direct shots of 7.62mm intermediate-caliber bullets. They also had impressive protective abilities against the 7.62x51 NATO-standard bullets.

Ever since Luo’er was shot, the staff of the Weapons Research Center were scolded harshly by Lin Wei and stopped bragging about their equipment. They conducted rigorous experiments to finally prove the reliability of this equipment.

The difference between this insert and ordinary polymer inserts was its lightness. It could be used as a layer sewn into clothing, suitable for combat uniforms. The researchers even considerately engraved the Defense Runes on them which, despite utilizing atmospheric magic, enhanced the defensive abilities.

The Advance Team had worn similar combat uniforms before, but the biggest difference with this new material was that it would not deform when shot but would instead instantly convert into a dense irregular steel plate, deflecting the bullet to avoid damage to bones or internal organs.

"These are your weapons. According to your needs, we’ve prepared an AKM mod, an RPK mod, and two 74U mods! Additionally, Baiyue’s sniper rifle has been modified, mainly to facilitate the use of this type of bullet." Li Si, taking out a bullet that looked like a number seven battery from his pocket.

"What is this?" asked Luo’er hesitantly.

"This is a Rune Breaking Armor bullet! Your weapons will primarily use this type of bullet. However, we have adjusted your weapons so that once you’ve used up all of these bullets, you can still fire regular rifle bullets," explained Li Si.

"What’s the advantage?" asked Hu Daoke, examining the bullet after taking it from Li Si.

"The advantages are that it’s lightweight yet powerful, and it doesn’t easily have incomplete combustion issues," Li Si elaborated, "The bullet case is made out of biodegradable material – it’s sturdy and can deteriorate. The fired round is an alloy metal bullet which has strong penetrating power against armor. Combined with the Anti-Magic Glyph, it can pierce not only knight armors but also armored vehicles that have runes engraved on them."

"Indeed, it feels quite handy!" Hu Daoke weighed it, nodded in satisfaction.

"Also, based on your last reports, the researchers at the Weapons Research Center have specifically studied this type of bullet which can pierce a mage’s protective shield. However, because this is an experimental product, function may not be as obvious." said Li Si, taking out another battery-like bullet.

This new bullet had a red mark on its top to distinguish it from other bullets.

"How does it work?" asked Tangmo, becoming instantly interested upon hearing that it could pierce a mage’s shield. He held the bullet, asked out of curiosity.

"I’m not entirely sure about the details, but apparently, when the bullet experiences a fierce impact, the glyph inside it is activated and releases magic from the top to kill the mage. As we know, mages typically use a physical shield to block bullets, but they would struggle to defend against this sudden magic attack." Li Si replied.

"That’s incredible." Uttered Hu Daoke, stunned by his description.

Having a glyph powered by a magic crystal inside a bullet meant the glyph needed to be engraved very small and the magic crystal needed to have a power output. The output rune was extremely small and could only be carved using a laser cutter controlled by a computer program. This kind of precision would probably take people of the Otherworld hundreds of years to catch up with.

Strictly speaking, this kind of bullet could be considered a rocket-type projectile, both operate by employing internal mechanisms to penetrate the enemy’s armor and shields.

However, since it’s an experimental product, Luo’er didn’t dare to have high hopes regarding its effectiveness. The Weapons Research Center always relied on the Advance Team to test their new developments. If anything failed, it was the Advance Team who suffered, and they would then make improvements accordingly. Therefore, Luo’er was skeptical of anything developed by these people.

That being said, over the last thirty years, Earth’s people have continuously been studying the Otherworld people and the essence of magic. Their vision has proved much farther-reaching than that of the Otherworld people, despite only being in this world for slightly more than thirty years.

"Listen carefully," Li Si cautioned as they changed their gear, "The intelligence we’ve gathered indicates that the equipment of the Ancient Tribes people is not far behind yours. Fifty percent of all military insignia in this world are sold to the north, but, amazingly, twenty percent are sold to the ancient tribes on the continent. That’s why their firearm possession rate is very high."

The north includes the three major kingdoms of the Aud people and the Kingdom of Bobulu, as well as the Elven Kingdom and the High-peak Dwarf Kingdom. These nations consume half of Earth’s armaments, whereas the Ancient Tribes people consume twenty percent of the total arms, their arms possession rate is evident.

"What you’re likely to encounter in the Ancient States are Judgment Legions from there, called Theron, which means ’believers of Besson’. These people are in war with the Church’s people every day, their strength is not to be underestimated. If you see them, run immediately, don’t hesitate. If all the members of the Judgement Legion die, just run straight back!" Li Si continued.

Theron is the main armed force defending the religion of brightness in the Ancient States. They do not oppose other religions, only targeting those who insult and defy Besson. Their main enemy is the Church from the north.

"Can you provide some specific information about these people?" Luo’er asked.

"From what our intelligence indicates, these people are probably comparable to the modern-day guerrilla squads of Earth. They primarily use firearms as weapons, but most of them can also use magic... and this is the deadliest part. The Ancient States is their turf. You will likely be attacked over there, so try to keep far away from the Judgement Legion as much as possible." Li Si suggested.

"Whoa, these people sound mighty powerful!" Hu Daoke exclaimed in surprise.

Possessing firearms and using magic just like the Advance Team. And since these people are fighting on their own turf, the odds are grim for the Judgement Legion’s current campaign.

"Also, the Ancient States has a tropical and subtropical climate, and is covered in pervasive jungle. So, if you hear the trees on the roadside starting to talk, don’t hesitate, fire your gun immediately, then run back without thinking!"

What concerned Wang Xu and Li Si the most was the potential conflict between the Advance Team and the Ancient Tribes. Although they nominally support the Church Court, they really don’t want to offend the Ancient Tribes. Because in the future, if the headquarters plans to venture into the south, the Ancient States is an obstacle they cannot bypass.

"Unnderstood!" Luo’er nodded in affirmation.

"In any case, pay attention to safety. For this trip, we have prepared carriages and horses for you. As it is snowing here right now, you can hide inside the carriage, which is heated by magic crystal powered runes. Once you get to the south, ride on horses so you can escape more quickly if need be." Li Si advised incessantly.

"I get the feeling none of you actually want us to go to the south." Hu Daoke commented.

"To be honest, we didn’t. We originally wanted the Murong Squad to just register our presence, but Fu’en has fled to Earth, forcing our hand." As Li Si spoke, he couldn’t help but shake his head.

"He hasn’t been caught yet?" Hu Daoke questioned.

"It’s not as easy as it sounds. With nearly 10 billion in population and people covering for him, it will likely take a few months before we’ll be able to track down Fu’en." Li Si sighed as he spoke.

"It’s all my fault. I should not have been so reckless." Luo’er stated in remorse.

"No use crying over spilled milk, this matter is in the past. No point bringing it up again now." Li Si tried to comfort him.

"By the way, Mr. Yalunte will not join you this time, he has a new mission to attend to." Pausing a moment, Li Si continued.

Upon hearing his words, everyone’s gaze shifted towards Cheng Ziang. Luo’er asked, "And where is he?"

"He’s already started his mission, he left yesterday." Li Si answered.

"Then he and..." Hu Daoke glanced at the somewhat displeased Cheng Ziang and decided to shut up.

After their preparations, the Advance Team arrived at the carriage prepared for them. The headquarters had prepared a carriage and driver, with six horses tied to the back of the carriage for them to switch to once they reached the south.

At this point, the primary high-ranking officials from the Judgement Legion had once again been waiting for quite some time. After some curt exchanges, everyone clambered into the carriage, setting forth majestically toward the south.
