Otherworld Advance Team
Chapter 409 - 402: Strike Operation

Chapter 409: Chapter 402: Strike Operation

The following morning, the advance team was up early and started their operation. Their mission was to find and capture or eliminate Fu’en within the day to avoid further turmoil.

The horse carriage galloped on the bumpy roads. Despite its shock absorption system, the intense travel had already damaged several wheels. Thankfully, there were spare wheels on the carriage, otherwise, they would have been forced to push it forward.

In the state of a forced march, the team finally arrived at Fu’en’s location in the afternoon and met with the reconnaissance personnel from the Church Court.

These personnel were primarily knights from the Temple. They could have directly captured Fu’en and transferred him to Holy Heart City for the advance team. However, Luo’er had personal intentions of killing him, so he didn’t agree with the Church’s plan.

"Where is he?" Luo’er indifferently asked the knight who regarded him with slight disdain.

"They’re roughly a kilometer ahead in an open space. Our men are keeping an eye on them." The knight replied.

"Show me their grouping, draw it out. Also, tell me about their weapons and equipment clearly!" demanded Luo’er.

In the face of the Temple’s knights, Luo’er was in no way inferior. Perhaps a year ago he would have been afraid, but now even their Bishops dared not behave recklessly, let alone these subordinates.

Most Temple knights were of noble background, but they were essentially soldiers, so they had to obey their Bishops. Luo’er dared to confront Dulens directly, let alone a mere Temple knight.

Despite his disagreement with Luo’er’s commanding tone, the knight obediently drew a distribution map of Fu’en’s camp on the map.

"Everyone come here!" After confirming the distribution, Luo’er summoned everyone to the map and started assigning tasks.

"Same as before, The close-combat team, together with the Temple’s knights, will block three directions and won’t let anyone escape." Luo’er commanded.

"Understood!" nodded Cheng Ziang. Their roles were quite significant in such open-field fights, especially against enemies without large-scale equipment of firearms. Their close-combat advantage was even more apparent.

The fleeing remnants weren’t heavily equipped, with only about five rifles in their possession and their firepower was hardly worth mentioning. However, caution was required as these people could all possibly be mages.

"The sniping team, you will find a high point to provide sniper support for our offensive as much as possible. You might have to split up and won’t have any spotters." Luo’er addressed Baiyue and Murong.

"No problem, medium-close support doesn’t need spotters. We can manage on our own." Murong waved his hand in response.

"Very well," Luo’er nodded, then looked at the others and said, "The rest of you, join me in the assault team. Break through their defense directly while Jiu’er and Moumou will provide magic support!"

"Understood!" Tangmo nodded seriously.

"Listen well, our goal is not to capture Fu’en alive, but to kill him, so don’t worry about issues of firepower. If the sniping team gets a chance to spot him, you don’t need my orders. Shoot to kill immediately, understood?" Luo’er asked everyone.

"Understood!" everyone replied in unison.

Seeing Luo’er’s angry expression, Murong felt a wave of relief at the bottom of his heart. Luo’er was indeed vengeful and petty-minded, but these traits were reserved for his enemies. Murong felt lucky that he never became Luo’er’s enemy, maybe Luo’er never intended to treat him as one.

After planning, the team resumed their operation. The first to move were those on close combat duty, responsible for reaching the predetermined position to ambush, without which the entire plan could not be launched. Then came the sniping team who needed time to deploy.

Learning from their previous lessons, this time the assault team consisted of six people split into two groups. One consisted of Luo’er, Hu Daoke, and Tangmo, and the other comprised Xuzhong Qi, Wu Tairan, and Shangguan Jiu. Two girls acted as mages, mainly to provide magic support for their respective groups.

Before joining the advance team, the Murong squad always had Wu Tairan protecting Shangguan Jiu while she cast spells. Once they joined the advance team, Luo’er broke this routine, instructing Shangguan Jiu to support and protect the assault team’s main attackers instead. Rather than using mages as the primary attackers, they were used for assistance.

Fu’en and his men’s camp was quite secluded, located in a clearing within a forest. Without careful observation, one would not know about this clearing within the forest, let alone that there was a group encamped there.

However, before the Advance Team, Fu’en’s advantage of having a camp began to turn into a disadvantage. The melee squad slowly surrounded them under the cover of the forest, unnoticed by them. The two members of the sniper squad also found suitable high points to set up their sniper rifles and provide long-range support.

There were about twenty people in this group. Most were magicians, with a few remnants of the Hound Gang.

In fact, for the Advance Team, using bullets to deal with a squad of magicians was strenuous. This is because they would activate a Defense Shield rendering the Advance Team’s attacks ineffective. That was why Luo’er had arranged for a magician in the assault squad.

According to Luo’er’s vision, they had to initiate a sudden attack, and wipe out approximately half of the enemy before they had a chance to react. Only then could they gain an advantage on the battlefield. Otherwise, if they allowed these magicians to counterattack, they would still be at a disadvantage.

In fighting in the Otherworld, Luo’er has always been cautious, because this is the Otherworld, not Earth. The Earth’s prideful technology has been heavily restricted here, while the Otherworld’s magic can be perfectly harnessed. Therefore, since entering the Otherworld, Luo’er has never been careless.

The assault squads were hidden among the nearby jungle bushes near the campsite, waiting for the placement of the sniper and melee squads. The people from the Church Court primarily helped to surround them, preventing them from escaping.

The direction of the Advance Team’s attack was from north to south. Therefore, the southern melee squad had to avoid being struck by stray bullets from the assault squad.

Once everything was ready, Luo’er heard a rhythmic whistle coming from the distance. It was a signal from each member of the melee squad, indicating they were in position, followed by the sniper squad, who were also ready to provide support.

Luo’er loaded a flare into the flare gun and shot towards the sky. With the harsh sound of the flare rising in the sky, the Advance Team’s attack on Fu’en and his men started again.

The moment the signal flare was launched, there was a burst of intense gunfire from the jungle. As part of the support firepower, Hu Daoke set up a light machine gun and started firing indiscriminately at the enemy. As the gunfire intensified, Luo’er joined the attacking ranks right after launching the flare, precisely shooting his rifle at the enemy.

His AK rifle didn’t have a usual rear sight. Instead, an aperture sight was fitted at the rear of the receiver. This arrangement made it impossible for the rifle to be set up for long-range shooting but improved the accuracy in close-quarters combat.

In his numerous battles, Luo’er found it hard to lock in on an enemy with a traditional rear sight. Therefore, he decisively removed it and installed an aperture sight at the rear of the receiver to track targets faster and more promptly. The only drawback was losing long-range accuracy.

However, the firepower distribution of the Advance Team was well-arranged, and Luo’er didn’t need to shoot beyond a hundred meters. Furthermore, most of their battles were mainly close-quarters combat, with no need for long-range shooting.

Under the powerful gunfire of the assault squad, the magicians were caught off guard, and several of them instantly collapsed. The magicians who reacted in time immediately activated their Magic Shields, resisting the sudden attack.

Nevertheless, the Advance Team’s attack had worked. Two assault squads firing from different directions disorganized the enemies, preventing them from forming a strong resistance. Although they reacted and activated their Magic Shields promptly, they hadn’t even considered counterattacking. They were more focused on finding ways to escape.

Seeing the magicians activate their Magic Shields, Luo’er silently cursed, knowing their surprise attack had been exposed. Although they didn’t take out many enemies, their morale was significantly affected, preventing them from forming an effective resistance.

"Assault squad, advance. Prepare to cover our magicians as they attack!" Luo’er shouted with gestures while patting Hu Daoke’s shoulder. He immediately got up, held his light machine gun, and started moving forward with Luo’er while firing. Tangmo was hiding behind them, ready to cast magic at any time.

For the Advance Team, the approach of not leaving any survivors was quite easy. All they had to do was relentlessly attack. Seeing Luo’er’s hand movements, the other squad also began their assault.

"Boss, I see Fu’en!" Hu Daoke fired a few shots and suddenly saw a familiar figure, so he exclaimed to Luo’er.

They saw Fu’en far off, protected by his people as he crawled out of the tent. He didn’t seem particularly nervous due to the protection provided by the magicians. He looked at his mechanical watch with a furrowed brow. It seemed as if he didn’t regard the Advance Team’s offensive as a serious matter. After pondering for a moment, he started heading south under the protection of his followers.

"Pursue!" Luo’er commanded.

"Understood!" Hu Daoke replied, ready to join Luo’er in the chase.

They had just taken a few steps when they felt a violent fluctuation of magic in the air. A magician, under the protection of his companion, released a massive fireball at them. Judging by its size, the strength of the fireball was somewhere between level two and three.

"Dodge!" Luo’er forcefully pushed Hu Daoke, and they hid behind a tree trunk. The giant fireball flew past them, but strangely, they did not feel the heat from it.

"Boom!" The fireball exploded upon hitting a tree trunk, and only then did they feel the scorching heat of the flames.
