Chapter 401: Chapter 394: White Moonlight

"You heartbreaker..." Feliz gave him a disgruntled look, then turned her head away and muttered, "Ever since you left, it’s like my heart has been empty."

Just as she turned her head, a firework suddenly shot into the sky, bursting into a dazzling display with a booming sound. The colored lights illuminated her face, but the massive explosion made it impossible for Luo’er to hear her last sentence.

"What is that?" Luo’er stepped forward, asking anxiously.

The people of the Otherworld didn’t have the habit of setting off fireworks, and it was not a holiday, so there shouldn’t be anyone playing with fireworks at this time.

"It’s a support signal from the city guard. It looks like they’re in trouble!" Feliz said calmly, watching the firework vanishing slowly in the night sky.

"And your brother, he..." Luo’er asked with concern.

"Don’t worry about him, his armor is like a tin can, ordinary weapons can’t break his defense." Feliz replied indifferently.

"I wonder if the Temple Knight group has been dispatched." Luo’er murmured, watching the dying fireworks.

The atmosphere suddenly fell silent. Feliz didn’t talk and Luo’er didn’t know what to say, so he just stood quietly behind her. Feliz stood in front of him, and oddly, Luo’er felt that her figure seemed smaller, weaker, stirring a strange heartache within him.

"Luo’er!" Feliz suddenly called out to him.

"Hmm, what is it?" Luo’er responded.

"If," Feliz lowered her eyes, then after a silent moment, she asked, "If I ask you to take me away, would you?"

"Huh?" Luo’er instinctively stepped back, his head felt like it was about to explode. Since entering the Otherworld, more than one girl had said those words to him.

Wasn’t the Otherworld supposed to be prejudiced against half-elves? Why was Luo’er an exception? Luo’er was always puzzled by this.

Seeing no immediate response from Luo’er, Feliz turned to look at him, a teary gaze flickering in the shadows of her eyes.

"Wait, you should know about our team situation, right?" Luo’er hastily explained.

"I know," Feliz lowered her head, revealing a subtle expression of disappointment, "But that’s not what I meant... I want you to take me to Yazhi City, I don’t want to study magic anymore."

"So, it’s about that..." Luo’er awkwardly scratched his head, but his mind was somewhat relieved.

"Um, you want to go to Yazhi City to study Earth’s culture, right?" After a pause, Luo’er asked.

"Yes." Feliz nodded, but her head was still lowered, and she seemed rather downcast.

"Do your family members oppose it?" Luo’er hesitated, then asked tentatively.

"Hmm," Feliz sniffed and nodded.

"Then, shouldn’t you... talk it out with them..." Luo’er asked doubtfully.

"I don’t want to negotiate with them anymore. As long as you take me away, let them look for me on Earth themselves." Feliz wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes and replied defiantly.

"Isn’t that considered kidnapping?" Luo’er scratched his head, expressing his dilemma.

"Are you unwilling?" Feliz looked at him, frowning.

"No, it’s just that..." Luo’er coughed lightly, then said, "We have missions to complete, we can’t keep you with us all the time. This is not good for us or for you."

"Then when will you finish your missions?" Feliz asked anxiously.

"It depends, quickly it will be one or two days, slower it could be one or two months..." Luo’er pondered.

"Then after our mission is over, will you come back to the Magic Academy to find me and take me away?" Feliz continued to ask.

"I..." Luo’er was about to answer, but when he saw Feliz’s longing yet determined gaze, he changed his mind, "I promise you!"

With his assurance, a faint smile appeared on Feliz’s sorrowful face. She lowered her head and thought for a while, then said, "Raise your hand."

"Like this?" Luo’er was taken aback, and then lifted his left hand over his shoulder.

Feliz suddenly extended her hand, interlacing her fingers with his, pressing their palms tightly together. Feeling the warmth of Feliz’s palm, Luo’er’s heart missed a beat and his body inexplicably became limp.

"Years ago, because of you, I swore an oath to the Goddess of Light," Feliz lowered her head, not letting Luo’er see her expression, "On your planet, there are no gods, so, you must swear to me!"

"Uh..." once Luo’er grasped Feliz’s intent, he felt somewhat exasperated and the pounding in his heart ceased abruptly.

"Alright, I promise. After we complete this mission, I’ll go back to the academy and take you away!" It was just a simple promise, yet Luo’er felt inexplicably awkward, as if he were making a lifetime commitment to Feliz.

"You promised!" Upon securing Luo’er’s promise, Feliz’s face broke into a smile. After feeling the warmth of his palm, she reluctantly let go and then, with a hint of regret, remarked, "I should get going now, remember your promise."

"I know!" Luo’er nodded.

"Also, take care of yourself, don’t get hurt, don’t take rash actions!" Feliz reminded him.

"I got it!" Luo’er replied, nodding his head.

"I really should go now..." Feliz took a few steps away, then turned back, waving her hand with reluctance.

"Goodnight!" Luo’er waved back.

Watching Feliz depart, Luo’er felt as if he had resolved something more important than even the mission. He turned with a scratch of his head intending to grumble a bit, but suddenly saw a figure in the night not far away which made him choke with surprise.

"Jiu’er, how long have you been here?" Luo’er gazed fixedly at her, asking with a guilty tone.

"A long while!" Shangguan Jiu replied coolly, nodding her head.

She was standing there quietly, as if merging with the night itself. Her posture was casual, and her expression was indifferent, as if the preceding events had not affected her at all. Yet from her tone, Luo’er could feel a deep sense of estrangement.

"You saw everything just now?" Luo’er glanced back at Feliz’s retreating figure, before asking uneasily.

"Everything!" Shangguan Jiu replied in a dispassionate tone.

"You’re not suspicious, are you?" Luo’er asked tentatively.

"Certainly not!" replied Shangguan Jiu, shaking her head.

"That’s good, huh?" Just as he let out a sigh of relief, Luo’er froze. Shangguan Jiu was clearly lying; if she was not affected, why was her tone so cold?

"No, Feliz and I aren’t like you imagine. We..." Luo’er immediately started to explain.

"They need you at the injured station." Shangguan Jiu interrupted Luo’er’s explanation, speaking in a detached voice.

"What’s going on?" The mention of Xuzhong Qi and Wu Tairan made Luo’er immediately serious.

"You will know when you get there!" Shangguan Jiu did not elaborate further and turned to leave after speaking.

"Alright," Luo’er nodded, following behind her. "Seeing her cold demeanor, he coughed and ventured to say, "Don’t be angry. It’s my fault."

"You didn’t do anything wrong, And I’m not angry!" Shangguan Jiu stubbornly retorted.

Faced with her attitude, Luo’er scratched his head in perplexity. Why do girls all react the same way when they’re upset? He thought with frustration. And besides, he had not done anything to justify an apology.

Since his arrival in the Otherworld, Luo’er had been surrounded by many girls, but none really made it into his heart. The only person he had made a promise to was Tangmo, yet still many girls recklessly put their lives at risk for a chance to get close to him.

Moving ahead silently, Shangguan Jiu reflected on her missed opportunity to be alone with Luo’er. Contrarily, she saw Luo’er being affectionate with another girl, their fingers entwined- were they making a lifetime commitment?

Shangguan Jiu once confessed her feelings to Luo’er, only to be subtly turned down by him. She thought Luo’er had feelings for Tangmo or Baiyue. She failed to consider that he had so many intimate female friends in the Otherworld.

Jiu discovered Luo’er when he was competing, which was only slightly later than Tangmo and Baiyue. But she couldn’t bear the fact that the otherworldly girls, who had met Luo’er much later than her, were acting so endearing to him, even intertwining their fingers!

Shangguan Jiu always thought that someone like Luo’er should be divided into several parts so that everyone could have a share of him. That way, there wouldn’t be any regret, and it would serve as a punishment for his flirtatious ways. The thought of being trampled upon by those who came after her left a sour taste in Shangguan Jiu’s mouth.

Shangguan Jiu wasn’t interested in her teammate, Murong, nor in Wu Tairan, who pursued and protected her relentlessly. Perhaps it was due to their shared elven heritage that when she first saw Luo’er, she was attracted to the delicate boy with emerald-green eyes.

At Haiya Academy, rumors of the Wood Elf Tribe’s stunning beauty were constantly circulating, with female researchers and teachers passing around several photographs. Those who laid eyes on the boy in the photographs-large, delicate features, long black hair-were utterly smitten.

Thinking herself the only elf at the academy, she was awestruck when she first saw the photographs, even amidst the shared shock, the boy’s good looks rivaled hers and even surpassed her in some respects.

Shangguan Jiu initially thought the exquisite, long-haired child was a girl, and she fervently searched for her at the academy. It was only when she met Luo’er that she understood; Luo’er was the delicate long-haired ’girl’.

Her love for Luo’er was no less true, nor less lengthy than Tangmo’s or Baiyue’s. She was also amongst the first to pursue him, if she had not hastily agreed to join Murong’s team, she might have had the opportunity to be in Luo’er’s team.
