Chapter 382: Chapter 375: Domination

In the tavern sat a few gaunt young men, most of them having dark skin, watching the two who had just arrived with vigilant eyes.

The Aud people are generally tall, so Luo’er didn’t stand out amongst them in terms of height, but the nearly 1.9-meter-tall Hu Daoke standing behind him just like a tower significantly bolstered his aura. They wore hooded cloaks with rifles slung over their shoulders, their outfits stirring a bit of unease among the tavern’s patrons.

Entering the tavern, Luo’er wrinkled his brows slightly, quickly covering his nose with a hand. He looked around, noticing that the tavern was not very crowded. Aside from the bartender, there were just three young men playing poker.

"Who are you looking for?" Seeing Luo’er looking around, the leading young man asked cautiously.

"Does anyone here know anyone from the Hounds gang?" Luo’er asked straightforwardly.

"The Hounds..." The three young men exchanged glances, then the one at the lead asked with a furrowed brow, "What do you want with the Hounds?"

Luo’er didn’t respond. Instead, he pulled a gold coin from his pocket. With a flick of his thumb, he sent the coin spinning in the air towards the young man, who hastily stretched out a hand to catch it, then examined it briefly, confirming that it was indeed real gold.

"What can I assist you with, sir?" Upon seeing the genuine gold coin, the young man’s attitude swiftly became more respectful.

"Get me in touch with the Hounds. I need their help with something," Luo’er said, weighing a handful of coins in his hand—there seemed to be at least four gold coins there—"this is your reward!"

Seeing the gold coins in his hand, the young men’s eyes sparkled. They exchanged glances, and the leading young man asked apprehensively, "May I ask, sir, what you urgently need the Hounds for?"

"Can you find them or not?" Luo’er seemed impatient, preparing to stash the gold coins back into his pocket.

"We can, we can, we’re part of the Hounds!" Seeing Luo’er’s action, the young man hurriedly extended his arms and declared nervously.

"Very good!" Luo’er responded, nodding his head in satisfaction. He had in fact already suspected these men’s identities and was just testing their reactions.

"Get someone who can talk to me, and these four gold coins are yours!" Luo’er commanded, walking over to the bar counter and neatly stacking four gold coins on it.

"This..." The young men exchanged glances, showing signs of hesitation. They were just minor players, they couldn’t make such a decision.

"Go tell your boss, there’s business waiting!" Luo’er added, pulling a bulging purse from his pocket. It was full of gold coins.

Faced with such a windfall, the young men could no longer contain themselves. They shared a glance and then hurriedly picked up the gold coins from the counter before rushing out of the tavern.

"Do you have anything else to drink besides alcohol?" Luo’er indicated to Hu Daoke to take a seat at the bar, then took a gold coin from his purse, placing it on the counter and asking the bartender.

"Yes, yes, yes!" said the bartender hastily. Faced with the allure of money, he could even produce something he didn’t have.

"Wow, boss, you have such a strong presence!" Hu Daoke sat down next to him and raised his thumb in admiration.

"That’s the power of money!" Luo’er shrugged nonchalantly.

The Advance Team never had to worry about money when carrying out missions, so when Luo’er spent money, he did so generously, without the slightest notion of thrift.

"Being so bold and straightforward, aren’t we afraid that these guys will have designs on us? After all, such a big bag of gold coins would tempt anyone." Hu Daoke looked around and asked with some concern.

"Don’t forget, our guys are all outside the tavern!" Luo’er said, pointing at the door.

The current Luo’er was not the same young man who had boldly met Dunuo alone years ago. After more than a year’s experience, he had matured a lot.

By now, the team’s other members had already taken up their positions outside the tavern. Murong and his people were guarding all the crucial points, and both Cheng Ziang and Yalunte kept a watchful eye from a distance, cloaked. Unless the Hounds sent a Mage, Luo’er wasn’t worried at all.

Not long after, a middle-aged man hurriedly entered the tavern surrounded by a few young men. He saw Luo’er at the bar with his back to him and asked with a frown, "What do you want with the Hounds?"

"Do your words carry weight in the Hounds?" Luo’er asked calmly, sipping his drink.

"Why do you ask that?" the middle-aged man asked.

"No reason, just wanted to know how many people you can muster. I’ve got a job and I’m not sure if you’re interested." Luo’er said offhandedly.

"What job?" The middle-aged man asked.

"I need you to find someone for me!" Luo’er said.

"Who is it?" the middle-aged man asked.

"A mage, a mage who can summon magic!" Luo’er replied.

"Mage...summoning magic..." the middle-aged man muttered, his brows furrowing instantly. "What do you want with this mage?"

"You people always like to ask for reasons. I think you should be the kind who gets paid to get things done. Why do you always ask for reasons?" Luo’er said, placing a money bag on the bar counter for the middle-aged man behind him to see.

Upon seeing the money bag Luo’er presented, not only did the middle-aged man’s face not relax, but it became even more serious. He stared at Luo’er’s back and said coldly, "If you’re asking us for a favour, then your attitude could use some work. You’re still facing your back at me even now!"

"Alright, my mistake," Luo’er said, setting down his glass and turning around. "However, I’m not begging you to do me a favour, we’re only trading benefits. If you think this much money isn’t enough, we can add more."

As he spoke, he sized up this middle-aged man. The man had a fierce appearance, with a beard that suggested aggression. His muscles were quite robust, indicating that he undertook heavy physical labour regularly.

Luo’er noticed the handle of a revolver protruding slightly from the bearded man’s armpit. Clearly, he was also skilled with firearms, making Luo’er more cautious.

After observing Luo’er for a while, the bearded man finally couldn’t stand it and asked, "Who exactly are you looking for?"

"A summoner named Fu’en. I heard he fled to the eastern part of the city, so I thought I’d see if we could find him through you," Luo’er said indifferently.

"Fu’en!" On hearing the name, the bearded man’s face changed abruptly, his right hand instinctively reaching for his armpit. He frowned and asked harshly, "Who on earth are you and why are you looking for him?"

"So, you know him?" Luo’er speculated bravely, noticing the bearded man’s peculiar behaviour.

The bearded man didn’t answer but gestured to his subordinates. They understood and began to spread out, all reaching inside their jackets in preparation to draw their guns.

Unlike other types of guns, handguns are very popular in Otherworld and therefore widely circulated. Nobles consider them a symbol of prestige, while low-level gangsters use them as short-range weapons for sudden gunfights.

"Don’t get carried away, or this fellow here might not be able to control himself." Luo’er said, patting Hu Daoke beside him.

Hu Daoke grinned and opened his cloak, revealing several grenades attached to it, all tied with ropes at the pins, which were bound to his fingers.

At the sight of so many grenades, several people changed their faces instantly and instinctively stepped back.

"You do know what these are, don’t you? If all these things explode, the whole tavern will go up with them." Luo’er said, a faint smile on his face.

"Who are you guys, specifically?" the bearded man asked, his teeth clenched and face pallid.

"You ask knowingly. Since you are aware of Fu’en’s name, you should know our identities as well. If you don’t, then let your boss come to see me. I believe he should know who we are," Luo’er said calmly.

Luo’er didn’t believe that the Doghound Gang, ruling the turf in the eastern city, could be ignorant of the fierce fight outside the city.

The bearded man lowered his head in thought, then quickly waved to his subordinates to cease hostility. He glanced at Luo’er before whispering to them, "Keep an eye on him here; I’ll go get the boss."

On hearing his words, his subordinates grimaced. Ever since Hu Daoke revealed the grenades on his body, they had instinctively regarded him as a walking bomb.

"How thrilling!" Hu Daoke said, seemingly invigorated despite the grenades on his body.

"Be careful not to ignite the grenades by mistake!" Luo’er advised, glancing at him.

"Don’t worry, these things aren’t prone to accidental discharge. They can only serve to fool these fools," Hu Daoke confidently patted his chest, causing the grenades to clang against each other, turning the faces of a few Doghound Gang members ghastly pale.

In regard to weapon safety, the people of Earth had done considerable research. Otherwise, if these grenades weren’t safe to hang around one’s body daily, they would have exploded a long time ago.

In fact, Luo’er never intended to have a break-or-bust struggle with these people. The reason he adopted such a tough attitude was entirely intentional.

Being the dominant gang, the Doghound Gang members were unquestionably seasoned operatives. Their judgement of people was accurate; once they determined that you were weak, their attitude would turn extremely unyielding.

Therefore, in dealing with these streetwise characters of the Doghound Gang, any slight show of weakness from Luo’er and his party would lead to being kept under the thumb by the gang.

That’s exactly why Luo’er had to maintain a tough stance. Only in this way could they keep these people in check and avoid being suppressed by them.
