Chapter 321: Chapter 314: Analysis of the Advance Team
On the matter of this severe casualty event, both the Church Court and Earth held varying viewpoints. The Church Court argued it was a private act and their responsibility was due only to their failure to monitor it effectively. Earth’s people ignored the Court’s warnings and invaded Yazhi City, a serious infringment, thus the Church Court didn’t bear the primary responsibility for the ensuing explosion.
However, from Earth’s perspective, the court’s resort to extreme measures which led to significant Earth casualties was an aggressive act deserving severe punishment. They all knew in their hearts that it was indeed their invasion that led to these severe casualties. Both morally and legally, the fault shouldn’t lay with the Court.
But in such diplomatic circumstances, to capitulate is equivalent to admitting defeat, equivalent to becoming accountable for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people- akin to swallowing a tooth one had knocked out oneself. So even if they weren’t justified, they would fight stubbornly, and see if they could find a way to discomfort the Church Court.
As one of Earth’s own, Wang Xu was relieved they hadn’t joined this military action. Currently, the Church Court had offended most of Earth’s nations. Despite having no immediate recourse against the Court, who knows when they could dish out some discomfort to them.
Regarding the current situation, Wang Xu decided it was still best to adopt a wait-and-see approach. Nations of Earth hated the Church Court, but on one hand, they could not link the explosion to the Church Court and secondly, even if they could, they had no means to deal with the Church Court. Therefore, they could only bear the vexation, with no good solutions at present to impose sanctions on the Church Court.
When the news arrived, Luo’er and everyone else had already returned, along with Hu Daoke, who had gone back to Meiliya Camp to send a message. At this time, all seven of their group were once again convened.
"Sister Moumou, I’m so glad you’re okay!" Upon seeing a fully recovered Tangmo, Hu Daoke was so moved he was on the verge of tears.
"I am sorry everyone, all of this is my mistake. Whatever harm I caused you, I will take all the blame," Tangmo came before them and apologized in a tone full of guilt.
"Forget it, the most seriously injured was Luo’er, and since he has already forgiven you, I don’t have much to say." Cheng Ziang gestured with his hand, expressing his stance.
"I’m sorry, Yue’er..." Tangmo held Bayiue’s hand, whose head was bowed in silence, and apologized sincerely.
She knew that Baiyue was the one who was most worried when something happened to Luo’er. Although they were rivals, it was grossly unfair for her to harm Luo’er without any consideration.
In response to Tang mo’s apology, Baiyue shrugged her off and sulkily turned away. Evidently, it would take some time for her to cool down, and Luo’er didn’t dare mute her. He would again be seen as speaking for Tangmo, which would once again upset Baiyue.
Seeing Tangmo look chastised, Luo’er gave a gentle cough, hinting that she should continue to apologize to the others and leave Baiyue alone for now. Tangmo approached Hu Daoke and apologized, "I’m sorry, Little Ke, not only did I make you worry, but I also got you to run all the way to send the message. I’m really not a good big sister."
"It’s okay, it’s okay. It’s enough that you could come back safely, Sister Moumou...no, that woman was terrifying." Hu Daoke waved his hand in dismissal.
"I’m sorry, I won’t let her come out again. If she tries to control me again, I’ll just kill myself in front of her." Tangmo said in a determined tone.
"No, no, Sister Moumou, don’t say such things, we ultimately have a solution, don’t be impulsive." Upon hearing that Tangmo wanted to commit suicide, Hu Daoke immediately panicked.
Although the issues were all caused by that Momo and she had to shoulder all blame, Tangmo didn’t harbor much resentment. In her eyes, the severe consequences that Momo had caused to the team were her inescapable responsibility.
"I’m sorry, Feliz, we met again after a long time and I treated you like that..." Tangmo sincerely apologized to Feliz, who was hiding behind Yalunte.
"It doesn’t matter, I’ve heard all about it. That wasn’t really you, I know Audrey wouldn’t hurt me." Feliz said, but she was still hiding behind Yalunte, obviously scared by the incident.
Seeing that everyone still had lingering doubts about her, Tangmo felt very guilty. When Momo went berserk, her consciousness was still clear, she just couldn’t control herself. So she understood how these people felt and was very guilty about her past behaviours.
"Alright, a brief apology to everyone will suffice for now. Let’s deal with any issues when we get back." Luo’er took the initiative to mediate the situation.
He motioned Tangmo to step back, then looked around at everyone and said, "I know that everyone is concerned about me. I want to thank you all here, I’m fine. Now we are still in the middle of the mission, so regardless of your dissatisfaction with Moumou, please wait until we return to the base to discuss it, now we still have a mission to complete."
After a pause, he continued solemnly,"I just received intelligence from headquarters, the Earth’s Armed Forces, in the process of mobilization, were attacked by suspected Church Court’s Forbidden Curse Mages, leading to the perishment of over hundred thousand soldiers. Now, relations between Earth and the Otherworld have become very strained."
His words instantly stirred up ripples among the crowd, since one could only imagine what the concept of over hundred thousand deaths meant. Thirty years ago, during the grueling Otherworld War, it took the entire Otherworld Allied Army to wipe out Earth’s army, which also numbered in the hundreds of thousands. But now, the Earth’s army had been attacked by Forbidden Curse Mages, losing over a hundred thousand in an instant, a death toll that was hard for anyone to accept.
"So are we..." Hu Daoke asked in shock.
"Rest assured, the headquarters have accepted our warning, and have not dispatched any troops," Luo’er reassured them, then looked at everyone and continued, "The casualties this time were primarily from the multinational forces led by NATO, no casualties were sustained by the Permanent Member Nations’ armies."
"Not a single person was injured..." Hearing this sentence, Cheng Ziang immediately narrowed his eyes, evidently in deep thought.
"Great strategist, do you have something to say?" Hearing that no one from his own country was injured, Hu Daoke’s tone became much more relaxed.
Cheng Ziang rolled his eyes at him, then looked at Luo’er seriously, "It’s quite coincidental, isn’t it? This war not only intensified the contradictions between the two worlds, but also prevented the situation from further escalating, haha!"
"To be more precise, it should be the contradictions between Earth’s nations and the Church Court because the Archmage who cast the magic belongs to the Church Court." Luo’er corrected.
"I always feel like there’s some kind of conspiracy involved." Cheng Ziang mused.
"Feliz, what else do you know about this ambush?" Luo’er looked at Feliz and asked.
Feliz was silent for a moment, then looked up and answered, "The practice activity this time was approved by the Church Court, and they supposedly sent Archmage Falok to participate in this practice mission. If someone used a Forbidden Curse magic, I think... it should be... Falok..."
As a faithful follower, Feliz became somewhat reserved when facing everyone after learning that the Church Court had become enemies with the people of Earth.
"Falok?" Luo’er heard this name for the first time.
"Falok is one of the Archmages of the Church Court, and he commands the Forbidden Curse of ’Light Singularity’." Baiyue added coldly from the side.
"What the hell is ’Light Singularity’?" Hu Daoke asked as he furrowed his eyebrows.
"’Light Singularity’, is a level-up version of a point explosion Forbidden Curse. It’s a type of magic that compresses magic power and then releases it, producing an explosion-like effect. This Forbidden Curse can cause not only magical damage, but also physical damage." Tangmo continued to supplement as a living magic textbook.
"How do you know?" Upon hearing her words, Feliz asked quietly from the side.
"It’s recorded in the magic textbook, haven’t you read it?" Tangmo looked at her and casually asked as if it was a matter of course.
"Ah, yes." Feliz nodded a little guiltily, not daring to continue the conversation. Of course she had read it, but she had mostly forgotten about it. She had underestimated Tangmo, who had been skipping class for almost a year, and was surprised that Tangmo still remembered it.
"So you’re saying that it’s likely that this Archmage named Falok was the one who cast the Forbidden Curse, leading to the deaths of over a hundred thousand earthlings?" Cheng Ziang hesitantly asked.
"The Church Court is still investigating, but it’s pretty likely," Luo’er said seriously, "The Church Court is saying to Earth that this is individual behavior and does not represent the position of the Church Court. But talk is cheap, now that the Church Court controls the Otherworld Gate, Earth people can’t do anything about them."
"So, are you saying that the chase to kill Feliz does not represent the Church Court’s stance?" Cheng Ziang mused.
Both of them then turned to look at Feliz, and Luo’er could not help but ask, "Feliz, why were you being hunted? Was it because you had once revealed that you wanted to tell the earthlings about the situation?"
"No, I didn’t say anything. We just heard their plans, and then they started hunting us down. Almost everyone who knew about this was killed by them..." Feliz felt very sad when she thought of her dead classmates.
"It’s a bit messy, let me organize it," Cheng Ziang scratched his head. After musing for a moment, he said with a furrowed brow, "So, killing Earth’s soldiers was not an act by the Church Court, but those who chased after Feliz were people from the Church Court. That’s a contradiction. The Church Court basically had no plans to kill Earth’s soldiers, so why did they go to great lengths to hunt down Feliz and her people?"
"If it’s Falok’s independent action, does that mean that the people hunting Feliz are Falok’s?" Luo’er also put forward his own view.
"So, you’re saying that the people hunting you are not from the Church Court, but from Falok’s side." Cheng Ziang looked at Feliz and said.
"Archmage Falok wants to kill us?" Feliz uttered with some confusion.
"Why would Falok do this, as an Archmage of the Church Court, he could simply enjoy his old age in comfort and wealth." Luo’er and Cheng Ziang looked at each other and finally untangled some of their thoughts.
