Chapter 294: Chapter 287: Lipei City
"They, they..." The knight trembled all over, even his voice changed. After hesitating for a while, he exclaimed, "They insulted Your Highness, that’s why I, I..."
"Insult?" Melia looked at Luo’er, who was watching her calmly.
"You think I’m an idiot?" Anger surged within Melia. She picked up her skirt and kicked the knight in the head, sending him face-first into the mud, mouth full of dirt.
If it were those soldiers or interpreters from the headquarters, Melia might believe the knight’s lie. But with Luo’er present, his lie sounded ludicrous. She might not know everyone, but Luo’er would never behind her back.
"No, I didn’t deceive Your Highness, it really happened like that!!" The knight spat out the mud from his mouth, begging loudly for mercy.
"Still denying!" Melia stomped on him again, more vehement this time. Her anger flared and her kicks were ruthless.
"Captain Knight!" Melia shouted.
"Present!" The captain knight lowered his head and responded loudly.
"Stand up, and chop off his head!" Melia ordered, sternly.
"Your Highness, this..." The captain knight looked at her, aghast.
"Are you going to disobey me as well?" Melia turned her head and glared at him, asking harshly.
"Yes, yes!" The captain knight hurriedly nodded his head, then got up from the ground, withdrew his long sword from his waist, and walked over to the knight.
At that moment, the knight kneeled before Melia, face buried deep in the mud. Melia let go of her foot, retreated a few steps, his head still stuck in the mud, trembling but not daring to move.
The captain knight gauged a bit, raised his sword high above his head. Under the early autumn sun, the sword reflected a blinding cold light. Seeing this, Luo’er couldn’t bear it anymore and whistled at Cheng Ziang.
Cheng Ziang did not turn his head, but he recognized who it was and understood the signal, so he nodded to himself.
The captain knight gritted his teeth and swung his sword downwards. Amidst the focused attention of everyone, a crisp sound of metal colliding was heard as Cheng Ziang managed to block the sword with his own blade.
"Spare his life, Captain Knight!" Cheng Ziang blocked the captain’s swing, then spoke lightly.
The blade of his sword stood between the knight’s head, with it remaining straight despite being struck heavily by the captain’s knight, which deeply surprised the latter.
Cheng Ziang swayed his knife to move the sword of the Captain Knight away, performed a flourish, and elegantly sheathed it behind his back. Luo’er then moved forwards a step, and said to Melia: "Your Highness, spare his life, his crime doesn’t warrant death!"
Melia knew he would step forward to plead for the knight, giving her an exit, although she wasn’t playing at theatrics but genuinely intended to kill the knight, yet she still agreed to Luo’er’s request.
"Get out of here, Captain Knight. You know what to do with him, right? I don’t need to spell it out, do I?" Melia’s face was stern as she spoke coldly.
"Yes, I understand!" The captain knight sheathed his sword and wiped the sweat from his brow surreptitiously. He then kicked the knight, and cursed, "What are you kneeling here for, get lost!"
"Yes, yes, yes!" The knight nodded again and again, but his thanks were directed at Melia, not Luo’er. He still had a deep-rooted prejudice against Luo’er, who in turn was indifferent as long as the knight kept quiet.
"I’m sincerely sorry. I will discipline my people better to ensure that they won’t cause any more trouble." Melia turned to Luo’er and said earnestly.
"No problem," Luo’er waved his hand with a smile, then said, "You should understand the reason for their dispute, so that similar situations don’t occur again."
"Tell me," Melia looked at him and said.
"Err, bro, why don’t you explain your suggestion to Princess Melia!" Luo’er turned his head and said to the officer.
"Oh, right!" The officer stared straight at Melia, his eyes wide; he had never seen such a beautiful Aud girl before. Since seeing Melia at the banquet, they had been mesmerized by her charm.
Standing before Melia, not daring to raise his head, the officer trembled and stuttered, "That, uh, what...I..."
Looking at his condition, Luo’er sighed. It couldn’t be helped, most people here saw Melia as a sacred and noble being; her charm alone could captivate most people’s hearts.
"Our military officers suggest that these soldiers should learn some basic knowledge, which would improve their combat effectiveness," Luo’er gestured to Princess Melia and then said to her.
"Learning knowledge..." Princess Melia repeated his words hesitatingly, her face showing some difficulty.
It wasn’t entirely her fault. After all, in the rigid hierarchical system of the Otherworld, knowledge was generally held by the nobility and the Church Court. Ordinary civilians had no right to learn. The reasons the Aud people and the Church Court ostracised the Blaiqi people included not only their opportunistic tendencies but, more importantly, their disobedience in allowing their offspring to learn knowledge independently. This violated the taboos of the aristocracy and the Church Court.
"Melia, learning can effectively enhance the combat power of the army; this has already been confirmed in my country. The construction of my country’s army is a history of peasants learning knowledge, and soldiers who had learned culture displayed amazing combat effectiveness in battle," Luo’er continued to explain.
"But, as for the Church Court..." Princess Melia hesitated. Her concern lied in the fact that once she seized the throne of Masya, she would need the Church Court to acknowledge her position and crown her. Otherwise, she would just be a despicable usurper.
"They can be educated whilst their thoughts are being reshaped, making them loyal to you. Melia, if you’re still worried about the constraints of the Church Court, then you are destined to be unable to build a modern army. Your army will merely be a group of backwards soldiers wielding advanced weapons, incapable of truly displaying the strength of a modern army," Luo’er continued to persuade.
"I will consider your advice seriously!" Princess Melia nodded her head. Although she did not directly respond to his words, judging from her attitude, she essentially agreed with Luo’er’s proposal.
"Also, there’s something else I need your help with," Luo’er said.
"What is it?" Princess Melia looked at him and asked.
"Let’s talk about it when we get back!" Luo’er surveyed his surroundings and then said. He was concerned that Tangmo would suddenly kill them and disrupt his conversation with Princess Melia.
"Ok, let’s go!" It was rare for Princess Melia to be alone with Luo’er, so she was quite happy and a faint smile appeared on her face.
The two of them went back to Princess Melia’s office, which used to be her bedroom in the villa but was now converted to an office, filled with various books and necessary documents on the shelves and table.
"It looks like you are very busy!" Upon entering the office and seeing books piled up on her bedside table, Luo’er couldn’t help but comment.
"There’s so much to do, and I have to do it all myself, of course I’m busy!" Princess Melia tied up her disheveled hair, a weary smile on her face as she turned to look at him.
"Melia," Luo’er looked at her and got straight to the point, "can you tell us where Masya and the Otland armies will rendezvous? We plan to go there ourselves."
"Can’t wait to leave already?" Princess Melia looked at him, still wearing a faint smile on her face.
"Not that, but we do have a mission after all. We have been here for long enough. It’s time for us to get moving. Otherwise, we won’t be able to explain ourselves if we get reprimanded by headquarters," Luo’er explained.
Melia sighed lightly then turned around and calmly said, "It seems I can’t keep you here."
"Look at you, we are allies after all. As long as there’s a chance, we’ll see each other again," Luo’er said.
"If it’s unrelated to work, would you take the initiative to come see me?" Princess Melia asked without turning her head.
"Uh..." Luo’er froze for a moment, then after a silence, he nodded and assured her, "Yes, when we have time, we’ll come and see you."
"That’s our private agreement. You promised me now, so you can’t go back on it!" Princess Melia said. She is currently busy building and training the army and doesn’t have the time to bother about anything else. The reason she kept Luo’er here was just because she felt it was rare for him to visit and hoped he could stay a little longer.
"Yes, I promise you, when we’re on leave, we’ll come to see you," Luo’er nodded, reaffirming.
"Alright." Princess Melia sighed again then gestured for him to come over.
Luo’er moved closer, in front of him was a map of the Aels Continent. Luo’er could clearly see that this was not a map drawn by the Earthlings through precise calculations, but a hand-drawn map by the Otherworlders. Many places were different from the map drawn by the Earthlings.
Princess Melia put her finger on a spot on the map, then without turning her head, she said, "Lipei, they will meet in Lipei!"
"Lipei?" Luo’er was taken aback and followed the direction of Princess Melia’s finger.
Lipei City is located upstream of the Roen River, at the foot of the Northern Domain Mountain Range, with the city sitting at a confluence. However, what Luo’er found strange was that Lipei was not a bustling commercial city, and it was reported to be a lone city with not many people living nearby.
"Lipei was once a bustling city during the Aud Empire era, but it has now declined. It belongs to the Otland Kingdom, but because of its remoteness, not many people live there," Princess Melia turned her head back and said while looking at him.
"Then what are they going to Lipei for?" Luo’er frowned and couldn’t help asking.
