Chapter 282: Chapter 275: Cheng Ziang’s Origin

"You’re pretty impressive, aren’t you, even managing to win over the princess of the Aud people?" Wang Xu teased. Seeing Luo’er, a half-elf who was often met with prejudice, now universally adored, was indeed commendable.

"Quit joking around at my expense." The thought of the women fighting over him left Luo’er feeling miserable.

"In any case, your mission is to head to Princess Melia’s area of command, investigate the intelligence, and figure out what the otherworldly army is planning. Earth is preparing for war, so they are highly sensitive to large-scale military movements," Wang Xu explained earnestly.

"Are we going to war?" Luo’er asked, worry evident on his face.

"It seems like it. The defense establishment is still debating whether to mobilize troops. I hope you can gather useful intelligence to help prevent this war," Wang Xu replied gravely.

Upon hearing this, Luo’er felt an unexpected weight on his shoulders. To prevent Earth from going to war with Otherworld, he needed to find concrete evidence that could dismantle the impending conflict.

"Also, rest for a couple of days. The headquarters will send over the newly developed weapons for you in a few days. Thanks to your blueprint, the research team has successfully replicated the Anti-Magic Glyph weapon, and they’re producing experimental versions for you to use," Wang Xu continued.

"That fast?" Luo’er asked, surprised.

"The hardest part of glyph work is deciphering. With your blueprints and a computer scanned copy, deciphering it is relatively easy. With Earth’s processing technology, they can do much more than merely overlay three glyphs. They could overlay thirty," Wang Xu explained.

Luo’er simply nodded before dropping his gaze and contemplating. Then, he asked, "What’s going on with the Americans?"

"The Americans are still blockading the Otherworld Gate, making it quite challenging to bring anything in. Nobody knows what they’re thinking or if they know that Arya’s Blade is in our hands," Wang Xu replied, furrowing his brow at the mention of the CIA.

"Are those Aud guys unconnected to them?" Luo’er asked, referring to the group that caused trouble in the city a while back.

"Hard to say," Wang Xu asserted, his face solemn as he fell into deep thought, "It seems like they know some inside information, yet their actions seem to surprise them. Be careful in your operations, these people are becoming increasingly dominant, and I fear they’re planning something big."

"Where is Melia right now?" Luo’er suddenly remembered the question and asked.

"Melia currently commands an army of approximately three thousand. She has taken control of the eastern bank of the Roen River in the western Masya. She fears that expanding too much will arouse the king’s suspicion, so this is all the control she has for now," Wang Xu explained.

"It seems she’s still cautious and hasn’t become reckless due to receiving help." Luo’er nodded in approval.

"Perfectly, when you’re going over, travel on the boat delivering weapons. This will aid our transport of weapons," Wang Xu exclaimed, seeming to have thought of something.

"I understand!" Luo’er confirmed with a nod.

"Go ahead, if there’s nothing else. You haven’t completely healed, rest more!" Wang Xu blurted out, not able to avoid showing his concern for Luo’er.

"Mhm." Luo’er nodded, hesitated a moment, and then fixed his gaze on him.

"What’s up?" Wang Xu asked.

"Can I ask you a question?" Luo’er asked, inhaling deeply before speaking.

"Go ahead!" Wang Xu replied with a nod.

"You said you’d tell me everything you knew, right?" Luo’er asked without rushing his words.

"As long as it’s not too sensitive, I can answer your question." Wang Xu replied.

"Good," Luo’er nodded, then looked into his eyes and asked earnestly, "Is there any connection between the Swordmaster Yalunte and Ziang?"

"Why would you ask that out of the blue?" Wang Xu blinked, then asked.

"Just curious!" Luo’er said casually.

Wang Xu saw the lie in Luo’er’s eyes but decided not to press. Instead, he considered his words for a moment before asking, "Do you suspect Cheng Ziang might be Yalunte’s son?"

"Yes!" Luo’er replied firmly, his gaze unyielding.

Seeing Luo’er’s determined eyes, Wang Xu nodded and fell into silence. He sighed deeply, then asked, "You should be very familiar with Cheng Ziang’s appearance. Do you think he could be a mixed-blood child of Yalunte and an Earthling?"

Luo’er fell silent, having considered this question numerous times. Generally, if a sub-beastman’s maternal ancestry came from Earth, they would resemble Earthlings more.

Because maternal-received genes are much stronger than paternal, if Cheng Ziang was Yalunte’s son, he should look more like an Earthling.

Numerous sub-beastman cases have proven this. Tangmo’s maternal gene comes from the Yellow Race, so she leans more towards their appearance. Baiyue’s maternal gene comes from Sub-beastmen, which makes the sub-beastman characteristics on her quite prominent. Luo’er, as a half-elf, inherits his appearance from his elven mother because his maternal gene comes from her, only his black hair is inherited from his father.

According to this theory, Yalunte is definitely not Cheng Ziang’s son, as his appearance would be more like an Earthling considering he’s a sub-beastman.

Luo’er sighed. Although a bit regretful, it did answer one of his questions.

"So where’s Yalunte’s child now?", Luo’er continued to ask.

"That’s something I can’t tell you," Wang Xu shrugged as he said this.

"Given our relationship, you can tell me, I won’t tell anyone," Luo’er brazenly said.

"Now you’re starting to trust me?" Wang Xu sneered.

Luo’er sighed, shook his head helplessly, knowing that this guy was upset. But questions like this, even if he knew the answer, would be of no use, so he didn’t bother asking Wang Xu.

It seemed Cheng Ziang had no connection with Yalunte, unless the latter had undergone sex reassignment surgery. Otherwise, it was highly unlikely Cheng Ziang had any connection with him.

Wang Xu silently watched Luo’er in deep thought. He had apparently overlooked an important question: who was Cheng Ziang’s mother?

Since Cheng Ziang’s looks came from his mother, who was his mother? It was such an important question, yet Luo’er hadn’t thought of it.

But if Luo’er did not ask, Wang Xu won’t tell. After all, this was still considered internal confidential information. Despite their close relationship, it didn’t mean he could tell Luo’er everything.

Within the headquarters’ internal plans, Cheng Ziang was a key piece, crucial to whether the headquarters could deal with the challenge of Otland.

After asking all these questions, Luo’er remembered a question he had wanted to ask for a long time. Staring at Wang Xu, he finally asked, "Where’s Kali?"

"Kali, the little girl?" Wang Xu was caught off guard, he’d almost forgotten her because of his workload recently.

"The little girl I brought back from Saint Bawa, where did she go? Why can’t I see her or Yaning anywhere in the camp?" Luo’er asked relentlessly.

"It’s not safe here, so I sent them to other estates!" Wang Xu lied. He knew he couldn’t tell Luo’er the truth about this, or the latter would surely throw a fit.

"You’re lying!" Luo’er looked at him straight in the eyes and said sternly. Wang Xu’s lie was so obvious he couldn’t ignore it.

After a moment of silence, Wang Xu sighed heavily and eventually decided to tell the truth, "I sent the two girls off to Earth!"

"Sent..." Luo’er was taken aback for a moment and immediately exploded, "You sent them to Earth?!"

"Calm down!" Wang Xu said, starting to feel apprehensive as Luo’er approached him.

"Damn it, how can you be calm? Don’t you know they are from the Otherworld? Sending them to Earth, it’s as if you’re wishing for their demise!" Luo’er, furious, was panting hard, his chest heaving dramatically.

"Would you let me finish?" Wang Xu seemed quite flustered facing Luo’er’s raging temper.

"Speak!" Luo’er glared at him through gritted teeth, his fury did not blind him completely.

"Those two girls were given suppressants, so they can survive on Earth. As long as they alternate between Earth and the Otherworld regularly, they can maintain a balance and stay healthy. There won’t be any irreversible side effects." Wang Xu hastily explained.

Hearing his explanation, Luo’er’s mood eased slightly, his furrowed brows smoothened a bit. But he still had doubts, "Why did you go through all this trouble to send them to Earth, don’t tell me it’s for their safety."

Wang Xu looked around subconsciously, then lowered his voice to say, "This is truly confidential, but I plan to tell you. Just make sure not to tell anyone else."

"Hurry up and say it!" Luo’er urged impatiently, frowning.

Wang Xu sighed, then spoke sternly, "They are to participate in a new plan, the Mingming Plan, which is to replace the Origin Project."

"A new plan?" At the mention of the Origin Project, Luo’er frowned instinctively. In his mind, the Origin Project, though beneficial for the headquarters, was absolutely disastrous for him and the sub-beastmen.

"It’s not a malevolent plan." Wang Xu saw his concern and immediately tried to explain.

"Then what is it?" Luo’er asked.

Wang Xu paused for a moment to gather his thoughts before giving a serious explanation, "The Mingming Plan is the new project devised by the headquarters to replace the Origin Project. It could be seen as a continuation of the Origin Project, focusing on younger Otherworld denizens. The Origin Project, though effective, cannot be implemented on a large scale. In over twenty years we only groomed over ten thousand sub-beastmen. This is too inefficient for the Headquarters."
