Chapter 268: Chapter 261: First Encounter with Sea Beast

Having obtained the approval from the first mate, Luo’er immediately began to deploy his team. "Number five, find a high ground and eliminate high-threat targets. Number four, set up a machine gun position to halt any approaching enemies. Number one, provide cover for the crew on deck at all times!"

With Luo’er’s command, Baiyue climbed the tall mast with her sniper rifle. Although she was a girl, her movements were incredibly smooth and efficient, quickly finding the perfect spot to set her sniper.

The space up was limited, hence she had to sit on the platform, setting the rifle on her knee. The ship lurched unevenly on the surface of the sea, and the unpredictable sea wind, along with the fast-moving boats, presented a great challenge to her marksmanship.

Hu Daoke set up his RPK light machine gun on the ship’s gunwale, the sight left the sailors in awe. In their minds, these types of automatic weapons were only equipped by the army, as Earth only sold them to militaries, not civilians.

Of course, there were exceptions of people getting weapons from some channels, made evident by a military weapons export incident that happened a year ago.

In such battles, Cheng Ziang couldn’t really be of help unless pirates boarded the ship. After all, he had to protect Arya’s Blade on his back, and even if pirates boarded, he wouldn’t be able to unsheathe his sword to fight.

The AK74U assigned to him before leaving gave him a chance to fight back. Though it was a short assault rifle, it was still quite effective for short-range shooting.

Cheng Ziang observed the sailors firing their guns. They were skilled at loading the guns, but whenever it came time to pull the trigger, they would close their eyes, rendering the sight of the rifle useless. Cheng couldn’t help but shake his head, turning to the first mate, he asked, "Have your sailors been taught how to shoot?"

At first, the first mate was stunned, then nodded and said, "Yes, we teach them to use firearms from time to time, but it’s not often, after all, pirates are rare around here."

Cheng Ziang chuckled, pointing at a sailor who was squinting with both eyes shut, he asked, "Do you think he can hit the mark like that?"

"Uh..." The first mate was left speechless.

"Give me that!" Cheng Ziang walked over, snatching the Springfield M1903 rifle from a sailor. The old model rifle fired powerful 0.30-06 rounds and was known for its accuracy and reliability. But in the hands of these amateurish sailors, its prowess was entirely wasted.

Cheng Ziang looked into the gunstock to find a bullet already loaded. He then took aim at a boat on the sea and pulled the trigger.

"Bang!"

Although embarrassed, Cheng couldn’t hit the target either, but at least his shot was more directed than the sailors’. His shot landed quite close to the target boat.

Cursing under his breath, Cheng adjusted the sight, putting the scale setting to 100. He again loaded the chamber and took another shot at the boat.

The bullet found its mark this time, piercing a beastman on the boat’s bow. Amid astonishment and applause, Cheng handed the rifle back to the sailor, inwardly feeling a bit unsure.

When it came to shooting, he wasn’t even placed. He couldn’t hold a candle to Baiyue, who was the sniper of the team, and even Hu Daoke was better because he was the machine-gunner, frequently delivering suppressing fire. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect, so Hu Daoke’s shooting skills were much more superior than Cheng, who fancied swords.

After some preparation, Hu Daoke fired. He almost gave everyone a fright when he started shooting.

He adopted a 5-round burst fire mode in which a tracer bullet was released every fourth shot, helping him adjust the trajectory. The sailors watched in astonishment as white light sporadically blazed from his gun muzzle, causing the sea to erupt with a spray of water.

A 5-round burst flipped a small boat inside out and most of the pirates on the boat caught a bullet, with blood and flesh flying in all directions. The incapacitated boat bobbed in the water like a leaf.

Getting a feedback, Hu Daoke got even more excited and didn’t stop pulling the trigger. As the firing intensified, he gave up burst fire mode and directly emptied a clip into a small boat. The bullets poured down like a heavy rain, splintering the boat while the pirates on it were shot and tumbled into the water. Hu’s gunfire dyed the entire sea red in an instant.

Baiyue sat on the mast platform, resting the sniper rifle on her knee. She tried a shot but found the bullet’s trajectory severely off. She took another shot to confirm her sniper scope was off.

But in this situation, adjusting the sniper scope was out of the question. She simply noted the deviation data and used it to compensate while aiming and shooting.

"Bang!"

Baiyue’s shot struck down a beastman pirate not far off, who was attempting to launch another rocket. This was quite an achievement for her considering the difficulties she faced, including the sea’s unpredictability and the misaligned sniper scope, yet she managed to hit her target.

With Baiyue’s sniping, Luo’er felt much more relaxed. As long as she took down those high-threat targets, all these pirates could do was try to storm the ship. Moreover, the merchant ship was now armed to the teeth. Though the sailors’ aim was poor, at close range they could hit the mark.

And the Advance Team possessed three automatic weapons. If the pirates tried to storm, they would face a hail of bullets.

Recognising the turn of events, the captain soon ordered fire again from the field guns, bombarding the distant pirate ship. Even though it was hard to hit them, the deterrence was enough to maintain a safe distance between the pirate ship and the merchant ship.

The pirates’ small boats quickly approached the merchant ship, which was high above the water. If they wanted to storm, they would have to climb up. Luo’er stepped onto the side of the ship, aiming at the small boat below and pulled the trigger.

Only half a magazine later, he had shattered a wooden boat, and water began to flood into the hull. Several pirates attempting to board were hit with bullets and bright red blood dyed the seawater in the hull.

Hu Daoke also picked up a light machine gun, aiming at the small boat below and firing continuously. His firepower was much stronger than Luo’er’s, managing to break a small boat in half. The pirates hit with bullets rolled into the sea, and soon several bodies floated up.

"Boom!"

Baiyue pulled the trigger again, and a pirate with a rocket launcher fell, firing his launcher into the sky in response. The rocket, with a long tail flame and smoke, flew over their heads into the high sky.

Then, she moved her sight again, confidently pulling the trigger. The bullet easily hit a small boat carrying a mortar. Even with the sniping scope slightly off, her shooting skills were unaffected, hitting the fuse of the shell.

In an instant, the mortar-carrying boat exploded violently, turning into fragments, even affecting the surrounding small boats.

The explosion of the mortar boat led to panic among the pirates who, facing the firepower of the merchant ship, began to contemplate retreat.

Finally, the two field guns came into play, one hitting the bow of the pirate ship. Although not causing extensive damage, it was enough to strike fear into the pirates on the small boats. They began to withdraw from the merchant ship, flocking towards the pirate ship.

Seeing the pirates fleeing, the Advance Team also stopped their attack. After all, as the Advance Team, there was no need to waste ammunition on pirates who had lost their will to fight.

Just as everyone thought the crisis was over, a dull hum came from afar, as if the ocean was issuing a roar of anger. On hearing this sound, the first mate turned pale.

He stretched out a trembling hand, pointing in the direction of the pirate ship and stuttered, "It’s, it’s, it’s the Leviathan!!!"

On hearing his words, everyone’s face changed. Thanks to tales passed down from generations of sailors, they all knew what meeting the Leviathan on the ocean meant.

"Turn the rudder, activate the steam engine, move towards the coastline!" The captain, from seemingly nowhere, came out shouting commands and waving his arms.

Seeing their reactions, the Advance Team remained calm. After all, panicking wouldn’t help because they weren’t sailors, they were passengers. They looked in the direction the first mate was pointing. The water near the pirate ship began to ripple violently, clearly something was about to emerge.

Obviously, the Leviathan must have been attracted by their battle. The cannonballs exploding in the water made a great noise, angering the Leviathan.

The pirates were obviously aware of how terrifying the Leviathan was. As soon as they heard the sound of the Leviathan, the pirates on the small boats turned around and rowed towards the coast. At the same time, the pirate ship also began frantically trying to change direction, dangerously approaching the merchant ship without regard.

The Leviathan was massive, so it found it hard to move freely in shallow waters. The closer they were to the coastline, the safer they would be.

The Leviathan let out a startling roar, and a huge wave suddenly rose, instantly engulfing the pirate ship. The resulting water mist created a rainbow under the sunlight.

Through the blurred mist, everyone faintly saw a massive, glossy black figure that glowed in the sunlight. But this huge figure quickly enveloped the pirate ship and sank into the sea, raising waves roughly three meters high that rushed towards the merchant ship.

The tremendous waves came quickly, and in an instant swallowed some of the small boats. The force of the wave pushed the merchant ship two meters to the side. The ship rolled violently, and some of the sailors even rolled into the sea.

The members of the Advance Team grabbed onto anything nearby to steady themselves and avoid falling into the water. Luo’er abruptly remembered Baiyue, and looked towards her. She was hugging the mast tightly, her sniper rifle on her back swung wildly, but luckily she didn’t fall from above.
