Chapter 257: Chapter 250: Fierce Battle in the Forest

"Ziang, watch out, his armor is engraved with mixed runes, your sword will have no effect on him." Tangmo couldn’t help but worry, standing and shouting out loud.

Hearing her voice, the nearby knights began moving closer to their squad. But this couldn’t be completely blamed on Tangmo, their location had already been exposed since the time Ziang had started fighting with the knight.

"Scatter, exploit our firepower advantage, and attack freely!" Luo’er shouted loudly while raising his rifle and firing several shots at the knight.

"Da-da-da!!!"

The bullets hit the knight, bounced off harmlessly, and after a burst of white light, there wasn’t even a mark left on his armor. The knight sneered at Luo’er, raising his long sword to attack him.

"Da-da-da-da-da!!"

Another flurry of gunfire erupted, but this time it wasn’t from Luo’er’s gun, but from Hu Daoke’s light machine gun. Compared to the rifle, the machine gun’s advantage was its brutal firepower. The dense bullets that hit the knight’s armor bounced off and hedge shattered the branches and leaves of the nearby bushes.

Under the intense gunfire, the knight couldn’t help but step back. Even though his armor could protect against gunfire, if a bullet happened to enter through the helmet’s viewing window, it would be bad. You know, while knights were encased in armor, they were still made of flesh and getting shot would still be lethal.

Although Luo’er and the rest had diverted the knight’s attention, Ziang wasn’t given a chance to rest. Another knight appeared behind him, swinging his long sword at his head.

Ziang blocked the attack then turned and kicked him hard in the abdomen, forcing him back.

"Envoy, please stop fighting and return to the ranks, otherwise we can’t guarantee your safety!" The knight who was kicked back a step cried out, clutching his stomach.

But it was clear that his "Envoy" didn’t pay him any mind, and instead turned around to attack Tangmo who seemed weak and frail.

This knight’s armor wasn’t as good as that of his "Envoy", but with Ziang’s current sword, it was still impossible to pierce it. Ziang inhaled deeply, then began to mutter incantations under his breath. Then, the blade of his long sword started to glow.

It had been mentioned before that Ziang’s long sword had runes carved into it to enhance its sharpness, but he had never had the chance to use them. Facing these tough enemies right now, he didn’t have any more reservations.

The knight dumbly watched Ziang’s glowing long sword, momentarily stunned. Ziang swung at the knight who managed to deflect the blow, but this was precisely what Ziang had planned.

Ziang swirled after his attack was deflected, and in the time it took the knight to react, a sweeping arc of his sword had slashed through the knight’s right arm where there was no armor coverage.

Only chainmail safeguarded this area. Even though the chainmail provided decent protection, it was no match for Ziang’s enhanced blade. It sliced through the chainmail as if cutting through paper.

With a swift sound, his blade swiftly slashed across the knight’s right arm, slicing the flesh cleanly to the bone.

The knight cried out in pain, his long sword plunging into the ground. He clutched his wounded right arm, shaking with pain. He hadn’t expected Ziang to be able to attack his weak spot so swiftly. His lightweight armor had restricted his agility to some extent, and he was struggling to keep up with Ziang.

After his successful attack, Ziang immediately retreated a few steps to avoid a desperate counterattack. Angered by his injured arm, the knight pulled his long sword out with his left hand and turned to stab at Ziang.

Ziang unhesitatingly pulled out his pistol and shot three bullets at the knight’s helmet. One bullet hit the front of his helmet, one hit the knight’s face, and the final bullet hit the grill-like viewing window over his eyes.

The sparks from the bullet made the knight pause and he instinctively moved to shield his eyes. Ziang seized this opportunity, sliding his gun back into his belt, then swung his sword, knocking the knight’s long sword airborne. Immediately, while the knight was still reacting, Ziang pressed the base of his sword hilt with his left hand, lunged, and drove his long sword through the grill-like viewing window of the knight’s helmet.

Although these knights’ armors were exceedingly strong, once a weapon entered their armor, their bodies were still fragile. Ziang’s long sword pierced the knight’s head in one swift motion. The knight froze for a moment, then collapsed to his knees before toppling to the ground.

Ziang struggled to yank his long sword out, breathing a sigh of relief that, despite these guys’ tough armor, they could still be killed.

Ever since his two encounters with Yalunte, Ziang had been reassessing his swordsmanship. If it weren’t for Yalunte, he wouldn’t have been able to inflict any effective damage on the knight even if he was exhausted, let alone target the knight’s weak points for his attacks.

Having dealt with the sudden appearance of the knight, Ziang turned his attention to the Envoy. He saw that the Envoy, thinking Tangmo was an easy target, was bullying her, not knowing she was actually a mage.

Although a bit nervous, Tangmo didn’t panic. Facing the imposing envoy, she unsheathed the magic crystal pistol from her waist and shot at him.

The magic crystal pistol was set in scatter mode, so as soon as she fired, a barrage of ice shards shot out at the Envoy. He was taken aback by this attack and immediately shielded his face, dodging it to one side.

Just as Ziang was about to head over to help, he suddenly felt a chill from behind. Instinctively, he turned around and blocked with his sword.

"Clang!"

The attack was powerful and heavy. Despite deflecting it, he involuntarily stumbled backward a few steps, his sword hand growing numb.

The one attacking him was none other than the Legion Commander, Dina. As the third greatest swordsman of the continent, he was renowned for his heavy, vicious slashes aimed to crush his opponents.

Facing such a formidable opponent, Cheng Ziang couldn’t help but draw a breath in, tightening his grip on the hilt. He knew well that a strike from Dina like this, if blocked by a single-handed grasp, could easily jar the sword from his hand.

With his first attack missing, Dina wasted no time bantering and continued his sword assault on Cheng Ziang. His armor differed from that of ordinary knights, making it challenging for Cheng Ziang to spot a weakness during combat. This made Dina’s attacks increasingly aggressive and fearless.

"Clang! Clang! Clang!"

Three forceful, heavy strikes almost overpowered Cheng Ziang. Luckily his longsword, forged from the most advanced Earthly synthetic metals, managed to withstand the blows and wasn’t shattered. However, he could clearly see a bend in the sword’s edge.

Dina once again swung his longsword at Cheng Ziang, who gritted his teeth and swung his weapon to retaliate. He knew if he chose not to attack, he’d die; but if he did attack, he might still have a chance to survive.

Finding it difficult to spot Dina’s vulnerable points in a short amount of time, he could only let Dina’s attacks become fiercer. Dina, too, knew that he had to kill this man as swiftly as possible to assure his own safety.

"Clang!"

With a sideways slash, Cheng Ziang’s longsword could no longer withstand Dina’s attack and broke into two. In shock, Cheng Ziang drew his sidearm and fired multiple times at Dina, emptying the pistol.

Dina shielded his face with one hand while continuing to swing his sword at Cheng Ziang. Believing himself to be moments away from death, Cheng Ziang suddenly sensed a familiar presence emerge behind him, accompanied by a metallic clash.

Raising his head, his spirits lifted. The newcomer was none other than Yalunte, who had disappeared earlier that day. He had one hand supporting Cheng Ziang’s shoulder, and used the other to hold up his longsword, blocking Dina’s strike and forcing him back. He then pulled Cheng Ziang back several steps.

"Master!" Overwhelmed with relief at Yalunte’s timely arrival, Cheng Ziang exclaimed.

"Your sword’s no good. Just like that, it broke. I was planning to ask for a replacement from headquarters but never mind that now." Despite the impending danger, Yalunte’s face still adorned a slight smile.

"Use this one instead!" Yalunte stated, suddenly spinning around to plunge his sword like a striking serpent into an envoy’s soft spot at the back of his head.

The envoy, who had been planning to continue attacking Tangmo, was inexplicably killed by the sudden strike. Yalunte yanked out his sword, then pulled out the unused longsword from the envoy’s belt.

As soon as he drew the sword, not only did he, but Dina’s face color changed instantly.

"Arya’s Blade, it was on this guy!" Yalunte said, extremely delighted.

"Hand over Arya’s Blade, you despicable foreigners!" Dina angrily pointed his longsword at them and yelled.

"Take it!" After hearing Dina, Yalunte felt even more sure about his assumptions. He handed the longsword to Cheng Ziang and stepped in front of him.

"Master!" Holding Arya’s blade, Cheng Ziang shouted, staring at him.

"I’ve handed the sword to you personally. With that done, my mission is complete. Run! Let me handle this!" Yalunte said, facing Dina, without turning back.

"Ziang, let’s go!" Luo, more composed than anyone, decisively issued the retreat order once he saw that Arya’s blade was in their possession.

"But what about you..." Cheng Ziang said, full of reluctance.

"Hesitation is not a quality a swordsman should possess. Hurry and go. I can handle this!" Yalunte responded firmly.

Cheng Ziang, looking at Yalunte’s back, gritted his teeth, retrieved his scabbard from the envoy’s body and, holding Arya’s blade, followed his team to retreat.

"Stop!" Dina was about to chase them when he was blocked by Yalunte’s cross-slash.

Yalunte looked at Dina, his face showing a slight smile and casually said, "Long time no see, Dina!"

"You are," Dina looked at him. His face hardened instantly, and he gritted his teeth, "Yalunte, you traitor, a lapdog to the Otherworld!"
