Chapter 245: Chapter 238: Pursuit of the Remaining Enemies

"So, what’s the current situation?" Hu Daoke asked next.

"The five stone bridges in the city have been blown up, and the king of Saint Basaya, along with the high-level officials of the Heresy Tribunal Army, are trapped on the south bank with Arya’s Blade. These people are trying their best to stop the large forces on the north bank, things are probably getting tough." Cheng Ziang replied.

"No matter what, it’s good that you two came back safely!" Hu Daoke patted him on the shoulder and sincerely said.

Even though they quarrel often, Cheng Ziang still felt comforted by Hu Daoke’s concern. He lightly brushed Hu Daoke’s hand off his shoulder and shook his head, "We don’t have time to be happy yet, we’ve lost track of Arya’s Blade."

"Don’t worry, the boss has basically given up on this mission. You see, when those deities fight, what can the five of us do? Rest assured, I guess when the boss comes back, he will have us retreat!" Hu Daoke confidently said.

Before long, Baiyue also changed into her usual battle clothes and came to their room. As their relationships deepened, the introverted girl is now willing to stay with her comrades instead of being alone.

The gunfire inside the city still hasn’t stopped, occasionally a few explosions can be heard. However, there have not been any more rocket shelling attacks like before. I suppose that group of people has exhausted their supply of rockets.

Earlier, Cheng Ziang estimated that the Aud people were simply a small battle squadron of dozens, causing not much commotion. But to his surprise, they had so many soldiers and even outside support.

The gunfight inside the city forced Cheng Ziang to reevaluate these people. Initially, he thought they were just here to cause chaos and disrupt the cooperation between Saint Basaya and the Church Court, but now it seems their purpose is not so simple.

The group in the city is definitely in the hundreds, otherwise, they would not be able to confront so many city-guarding troops and the Judgement Legion. Advanced weaponry from Earth has greatly enhanced their strength. Although these Earth weapons are still inferior compared to magical weapons, if used correctly, even Heresy Tribunal Army will suffer casualties.

Among the city’s battles, Hillna’s fight against the surrounding hidden gunmen left the deepest impression on him. An emergency Mage, under the protection of several Knights, could suppress the attacks of dozens of people around her and even cause a mess everywhere. She’s practically a human autonomous weapon.

Imagine if Baiyue and Tangmo could possess such powerful magic, then the long-standing problem of the Advance Team’s lack of firepower would be solved, and may even increase dozens of times.

Unfortunately, so far, the magical attainments of the two girls seem to be far inferior to Hillna, the battle-hardened, genius-level Mage. And, in the combat system of the Advance Team, the role of a Mage is mostly auxiliary and rarely used for firepower output. Of course, the deficiency in magical attainment is one problem, but more importantly, Luo’er as the Captain is always reluctant to let the two girls take charge. He always protects them, avoiding them from getting hurt.

Mages indeed are precious, but Luo’er’s approach gives off a feeling of a ’Broken Windows Theory’. As long as the two girls are not seriously injured, Luo’er will probably keep protecting them like guarding gemstones.

Cheng Ziang felt it would be best to report to superiors and enhance the magic level of the two girls, if necessary. Also, try to convince Luo’er to let go, and let the two girls eventually stand on their own, without relying on the team’s protection.

"Yue’er, organise the things in your room and pack them up!" Cheng Ziang told Baiyue after pausing for a moment.

"They’re already packed!" Baiyue replied.

"Hmm," Cheng Ziang nodded in satisfaction, then looked at Hu Daoke and said, "You too, get your things together!"

"Why are we packing things?" Hu Daoke asked in confusion.

"We might have to leave soon. Get ready in advance so that we can leave as soon as Luo’er and the others arrive!" Cheng Ziang patiently explained without mocking him for once.

"How do you know we’re leaving soon?" Hu Daoke asked.

Cheng Ziang gave him a look, held back his anger, and patiently explained, "Our mission is to track Arya’s Blade and try to get our hands on it. The city is now in chaos, Arya’s Blade won’t stay here for long. We have to follow Arya’s Blade. Although we might not seize it, at least we will know its whereabouts, so we still have a glimmer of hope."

"Didn’t the boss say he was giving up this plan?" Hu Daoke grumbled.

"Whether he gives up or not, we can’t stay here anymore, we’re moving soon!" Cheng Ziang laughed due to Hu Daoke’s stubbornness.

"Then why aren’t you packing?" Hu Daoke glanced at him and said.

"I was telling you, it doesn’t mean I’m not doing it. Do you need a scolding every day to keep your brain from rusting!" Unable to hold it in, Cheng Ziang finally burst out angrily.

Cheng Ziang’s preparation was right. Not long after they had finished packing, hurried footsteps were heard outside the door. The door was then heavily pushed open, and Luo’er and Tangmo, panting, appeared in front of everyone.

"You two are out? I thought you were still in the city!" Seeing Cheng Ziang and Baiyue, Luo’er was immediately delighted.

"When gods fight, mortals suffer, we almost died in there!" Cheng Ziang let out a sigh.

"I’m glad we’re okay. Let’s pack up, we’re about to leave!" Luo’er’s next sentence hit right on Cheng Ziang’s nerves.

"Boss, where are we going?" Hu Daoke was amazed at Cheng Ziang’s prediction and couldn’t help but ask.

" We just saw a squad of about fifty Judgement Legion light cavalry leaving Saint Bawa through the south gate, heading straight for Odelanqi. One of them was carrying a package, I suspect that’s Arya’s Blade," Luo’er explained.

"The stuff is ready, we can set off at any time!" Baiyue approached Luo’er and said.

Luo’er was stunned for a moment, then his face lit up with joy, "Wonderful, we’ve got the horses ready, let’s get moving and seek out Arya’s Blade!"

Time was of the essence, so the group promptly gathered their goods and headed to the stables below. Luo’er had bought the horses a few days earlier for the express purpose of catching up with these knights of the Judgement Legion, as they would not be able to catch up on foot.

Although they had only just been introduced to these horses and were still getting accustomed to them, after a little bout of chaos, they gradually got the hang of it and swiftly spurred their steeds towards where the knights had fled.

The horses galloped rapidly along the road; it was perhaps their first instance of such a forced march. Everyone was on edge, silently riding their horses in pursuit of the knights.

Not long into their journey, they spotted two corpses. Luo’er paused to inspect, identifying them as Judgement Legion light cavalry. The ground soaked with fresh blood, several bloodied holes littered the corpses.

Light cavalry differed from heavy cavalry; their armor was significantly lighter, bearing defense runes. Yet even so, there was no way their defensive abilities could compare to that of heavy armor. Small caliber guns might have difficulty penetrating such armor, but the old fashioned large-caliber bolt action rifles would certainly penetrate.

"Gun wounds; it must have been the same group!" Luo’er dismounted to inspect, then announced gravely.

"It seems that they had anticipated the Judgement Legion’s plan to return the weapon and had an ambush ready just outside the city," Cheng Ziang nodded.

"What exactly did you see in the city?" Luo’er asked, standing upright and looking at him.

"Those Aud people are not small fry, nor are they here to stir up mischief. They are numerous and well-armed. Their comrades outside the city set up a position for rocket bombs to support the battle inside the city!" Cheng Ziang said.

"Rocket bombs?" Luo’er was startled to hear such words in the Otherworld; it seemed somewhat discordant.

"Yes, 107mm rockets, but their shooting level is inadequate; less than half actually hit the enemy, the rest are purely luck-guided," Cheng Ziang revealed.

"That squad must be hundreds strong," Luo’er analysed, nodding his head.

"At least two hundred!" Cheng Ziang corrected.

"So if this group was sent by the secular power of Odelanqi, what in the world are they trying to do? Disrupting the handover ceremony would suffice; why would they launch such an extensive attack?" Luo’er mused.

"We can theorize later. For now, let’s hurry back to the horses and continue the pursuit, or we’ll lose them!" Cheng Ziang urged.

"Oh, okay!" Luo’er seemed taken aback, but quickly composed himself. They all mounted their horses and continued to chase after the Judgement Legion.

As they pressed onwards, piles of corpses began to appear. Clearly, a battle had just taken place. The Aud people had planned in advance the escape route of the Judgement Legion, ambushing them to the point that the light cavalry unit of the Judgement Legion suffered heavy losses.

From the number of corpses encountered so far, Luo’er estimated that over half of the light cavalry squad had fallen. At worst, Arya’s Blade could already be in enemy hands, rendering their pursuit futile no matter how well they raced onward.

During the chase, Tangmo suddenly felt a surge of magic on the back of her hand and shouted to Luo’er: "Luo’er, we’ve got a message from HQ!"

"Everyone, hold!" Hearing Tangmo’s words, Luo’er raised his hand to signal everyone to stop and rode over to where Tangmo was positioned.

"What did the message say?" Luo’er asked.

Tangmo pressed the contents of the communication onto paper and handed it straight to Luo’er without reading. Luo’er took the letter and began to read, his brow furrowing in response.
