Chapter 233 - 226: Executing the Mission
Chapter 233: Chapter 226: Executing the Mission
Leaving the office, Luo’er returned to the dormitory area. At this point, his team members weren’t in their respective dorms but instead, gathered at the rest area at the end of the corridor waiting for his return.
As soon as they saw Luo’er approaching, Tangmo was the first to stand, excitedly shouting out, "Luo’er!"
"Everyone is here." Seeing everyone, a smile crept onto Luo’er’s face.
Cheng Ziang and Hu Daoke were lounging on chairs facing a pane of transparent glass. Hearing Luo’er’s arrival, Cheng Ziang, without turning his head, asked, "What’s the mission?"
"We are going to Saint Basaya, to snatch something!" Luo’er said briefly.
"Snatch? Ah, I rather enjoy that word!" Hu Daoke clapped his hands once, stood up from the lounging chair, and stared at Luo’er excitedly.
"No, we are not going to commit a crime!" Luo’er said with mixed feelings of laughter and tears.
"Saint Basaya is in the direction south of Yazhi City, right?" Tangmo asked as he sat kneeling on the couch, with his chin resting on the couch cushion.
"Hmm," Luo’er nodded, and continued, "This time we are going to get back a treasured sword named Arya’s Blade."
"Arya’s Blade?" Hearing that term, Baiyue suddenly went cold and involuntarily opened his mouth.
"Yue’er, do you know what this is?" Hu Daoke asked, looking at her.
"Hmm," Baiyue nodded, then began, "Arya’s Blade, also known as the Anti-Magic Blade, is said to be able to break the setup of defense runes on the armor to neutralize it."
"So formidable!" Hu Daoke was stunned, almost dropping his jaw. They all had witnessed the incredible defensive power of the defense runes.
Baiyue, looking at him, continued, "This is only recorded in the documents, so far no one knows where this sword is."
"There is a clue now," Luo’er interjected, "According to intelligence, Saint Basaya has obtained the sword, and it is now stored in the palace of Saint Bawa, ready to be handed over to the incoming Church Court’s Heresy Tribunal Army. Our task is to get the sword before the Tribunal Army arrives."
"This indeed is snatching food from the mouths of tigers." Cheng Ziang got up from his chair with a smile.
"Not only that," Luo’er sighed, and continued, "The CIA has also learned about this artifact, so they are planning to send people to snatch it as well."
"Are they planning to send mercenaries?" Hu Daoke asked.
"No, they are sending their regular special forces, those soldiers who were transferred to Otherworld." Luo’er explained.
"Then the problem is a bit serious." Hu Daoke said astonished.
Last time when they were in Helros, they had encountered a CIA agent and got heavily suppressed by their firepower. If it weren’t for their magic, they would have been continuously suppressed until they were surrounded and captured by the High-peak people. Therefore, Hu Daoke had always felt lingering fear towards them.
"I think you should worry about the Heresy Tribunal Army, they are an army!" Cheng Ziang said with a straight face.
"An army?" Hu Daoke was taken aback.
"The Heresy Tribunal Army is one of the two trump card troops under the Church Court!" Baiyue explained.
"Why do I have the feeling that this mission is to send us to our deaths?" Hu Daoke said hesitantly.
"Really, do you feel that way too?" Luo’er was taken aback, then recollecting Wang Xu’s attitude, he couldn’t help but ask.
"Not that I fear death, but I feel, the hope is bleak." Hu Daoke scratched his head, and said with a difficult expression, "We are just five people, and on the other side there are armies and special operations squads. It feels like we can’t confront them head-on, or even outnumber them if we try the underhand ways."
Everyone fell silent after his words. Cheng Ziang got up and beckoned to Luo’er, "Luo’er, come here for a bit."
Luo’er was a bit puzzled, but then followed him to a corner. Everyone, though curious about what they wanted, tactfully didn’t go over to disturb them.
"Luo’er, I presume Wang Xu wouldn’t agree to such a dangerous mission, right?" Cheng Ziang asked while looking at him.
"Yes," Luo’er nodded and answered honestly, "This is a mission given by Teacher Zhu."
"You’re still injured. Go talk to Wang Xu about it and ask him to communicate with HQ to cancel this mission." Cheng Ziang suggested.
"Why?" Luo’er asked, puzzled.
"Why? Don’t you understand why?" Cheng Ziang pointed at his wound and said.
"I think I’m fine." Luo’er said frankly.
"You," Cheng Ziang paced back and forth, frustrated, then turned to him and said, "We’re just five people. Even if we are one in ten thousand elites, it’s very hard for us to deal with that many people in the Heresy Tribunal Army. Not to mention there’s also a special forces team. We don’t have that many lives to squander."
"Are you afraid?" Luo’er couldn’t help but ask.
Upon hearing this, Cheng Ziang paused and then burst out in a cold laugh: "What do you think?"
"I’ll be extra careful on this mission. I assure you, you’ll all be safe." Luo’er said seriously.
"You’re really single-minded," Cheng Ziang said, shaking his head. "Luo’er, you still have injuries from the last mission. The bullet hasn’t even been removed. Can you assure us that nothing will happen during this mission?"
"I can guarantee it!" Luo’er said decisively.
"I really admire you." Cheng Ziang turned around, frustrated, and began rubbing his head.
"I appreciate your concern, but don’t worry, I won’t die that easily. And of course, I won’t let anything happen to you guys either." Luo’er said with a resolute expression.
Faced with Luo’er’s unwavering assurance, Cheng Ziang didn’t know what to say. He didn’t even turn to face Luo’er, instead walking away dismissively.
With Luo’er’s insistence, the mission got underway as usual, and everyone received their new equipment. Now it was summer, so they changed into lightweight cotton clothes. But that was just the inner layer. The outer layer was made of graphene, which provided excellent bulletproof effect, along with the defense runes engraved on it. It was not hard to imagine that if Luo’er had been wearing this suit on the airboat, the bullet would not have been able to penetrate his clothes, thus avoiding all this trouble.
The AK in Luo’er’s hands was upgraded and put back in his hands. Although the weapon didn’t look any different, Luo’er noticed that the nick made by the beastman on the top of the cartridge was gone, obviously the cartridge had been replaced with a new one.
The only significant change was that Hu Daoke’s machine gun had been switched from a MINIMI to an RPK light machine gun, which used four 45-round large magazines and two 100-round drums for ammunition. The bullets were 7.62X39 intermediate power bullets which could be shared with Luo’er’s AK, ensuring logistical pressure was reduced.
Apart from this, a 7.62 version of the AKS74U carbine was put into Hu Daoke’s backpack, this served as a supplementary firepower to avoid a scenario like before where there was inadequate firepower.
This time, given that they had to face the Heresy Tribunal Army and enemies from Earth, everyone’s modular clothes were fitted with soft panels to ensure bulletproof ability. Luo’er and Hu Daoke, as the main combatants, even wore bulletproof helmets made of compound materials. Of course, the style of the helmets was modeled after the Otherworld troops to avoid any slipups.
Looking at the people lined up in the office, Wang Xu let out a sigh, then got up and said with his hands behind his back: "Listen to me. Your lives come first, the mission second. If things start to go awry, run. Don’t worry about whether or not we complete the mission. If we don’t, I’ll cover for you. So be careful and don’t play with your lives!"
These words were atypical of Wang Xu’s style, making no one dare to say anything to that. Wang Xu glanced at Luo’er and then continued: "Take a look and see if you need any heavy equipment. I can get it for you."
"That’s enough. Why don’t you get us a tank?" Luo’er looked at him helplessly and said.
"We can’t operate a tank in this place, otherwise I would have gotten it earlier." Wang Xu said honestly.
"Don’t worry, instructor. With Luo’er as our lucky star, we’ll all be fine!" Hu Daoke said confidently.
"Anyway, I welcome you all back here regardless of whether or not the mission is completed. We’ll hold a victory feast upon your return." Wang Xu said.
"You seem overly worried." Luo’er couldn’t help but shake his head and say.
"Anyway, everyone, be safe. You’re all my students, I don’t want to see anything happen to any of you. So make sure you return safely to the base!" Wang Xu said.
"We know, can we go now?" Luo’er was getting impatient.
Seeing Luo’er’s attitude, Wang Xu hesitated in his words. On the other hand, Hu Daoke, who suddenly thought of something, asked: "By the way, instructor, what about our horses?"
"Your horses have not been arranged yet. You’ll have to travel by boat until you reach Saint Bawa. I’ve already made arrangements with a merchant party over there. They can provide you with unlimited financial support, so after you arrive, you can buy what you need, and you don’t have to report for any financial needs. Just go straight to them!"
"That’s great!" Once Hu Daoke heard that he could take money anytime he wanted, he perked up immediately.
After repeatedly instructing them, the advance team boarded the carriage heading for the port under Wang Xu’s reluctant gaze. They travelled by boat to Golden Port in Saint Basaya, then upstream to the capital city of Saint Bawa. From there, they would retrieve the legendary sword and bring it back to the headquarters in Yazhi City.
Even though it might seem unscrupulous, they were merely serving their headquarters. Once the artifact was obtained, the headquarters would not destroy it. After research was finished, it would be returned. It would not be kept as an artifact in the Earth’s museum.
