Chapter 229: Chapter 222: The Mysterious Swordsman
Baiyue raised her head to look at Cheng Ziang. He was standing there expressionlessly, constantly harassed by Yaning. He grabbed her by the collar, pulled her upright, and said to Baiyue, "Don’t worry about what happened just yet, check if he’s alright!"
Baiyue nodded, turned her head and looked at the wound on Luo’er’s chest. The wound had already scarred over, but it was apparent the scar hadn’t been there for long.
"Is it a gunshot wound?" Baiyue asked with concern.
"Yes!" Luo’er nodded.
She gently touched it, and just thinking about being able to touch Luo’er so closely made her cheeks blush. She quickly continued to ask, "Has the bullet been removed?"
"Not yet." Luo’er answered truthfully.
"It seems that the bullet has to be removed through surgery," Baiyue muttered to herself, then asked, "Are there any other discomforts?"
"No..." Luo’er started to answer, but when he looked up, he noticed Cheng Ziang’s cold stare at him, so he answered honestly, "To stop the bleeding, I used magic. Now, my veins might have been damaged."
"Magic?" Upon hearing Luo’er say he’d used magic when he was injured, Baiyue became anxious and quickly asked, "How long did you use it?"
"A few minutes." Luo’er answered.
"When did you use it?" Baiyue asked.
"I," Luo’er lifted his head to look at Baiyue, under her anxious gaze he realized he couldn’t hide anything from her. So, he confessed, "The day the airboat fell, I was shot by a rifle."
Baiyue looked at him, finally understanding why Luo’er had been so secretive. He had got injured while going to save Yila and her daughter for Tangmo and his life had been hanging by a thread. When he returned, everyone thought he was all right, but they didn’t know he had a serious injury.
"That," Luo’er grabbed Baiyue’s small hand and pleaded with her, "Don’t let Moumou know about this and don’t blame her either. This was my own choice. Don’t put all the blame on her."
Baiyue looked at him, revealing a sense of melancholy in her eyes. She couldn’t help but say, "I care for you so much, but your heart is always filled with thoughts of Sister Moumou."
"I’m sorry, I..." Seeing Baiyue was upset, Luo’er at once became at a loss.
"Ahem!" A coughing sound came from behind them, Cheng Ziang awkwardly looked away, covering his mouth with his hand, then said, "Stop being jealous for now and quickly figure out how to treat Luo’er’s wound."
"I’m not jealous..." Baiyue lowered her head and muttered, her voice getting smaller and smaller.
After a moment of silence, she finally began to speak, saying: "The bullet has not been removed, surgery is crucial! Moreover, Luo’er’s veins have been damaged, we don’t know how to treat him at the moment. Meanwhile, he shouldn’t use any magic to prevent his injury from worsening."
"If you need to do surgery, can you handle it?" Cheng Ziang asked.
"Do, let me do it?" Baiyue raised her head, looking at him with a surprised expression.
"Luo’er doesn’t want to go back to Earth for treatment. He is afraid his spot in the Advance Team will be replaced." Cheng Ziang explained.
"I," Baiyue turned to look at Luo’er, who had a face full of guilt, hesitated for a long time, before saying, "I’m afraid I’m out of practice and might hurt him."
"I’m fine," Luo’er gently pushed Baiyue away, slowly leaning against the tree trunk before standing up and said, "I know my own body. It’s okay if the bullet is not removed for now as long as I don’t use magic."
"I don’t know what to say to you!" Seeing Luo’er’s forced smile, Cheng Ziang sighed.
"I’m fine," Luo’er forced a smile and said, "This time it was an accident that I used magic. As long as I don’t use magic, I’ll be fine."
Baiyue lifted her head and looked at his still pale face. She couldn’t help but ask: "Why? Why are you always so kind to Sister Moumou? No matter what she does wrong, you can always forgive her. Do I have to be a naughty child too, for you to treat me as well?"
Her voice became smaller and smaller until she finally lowering her head and fell into silence. Luo’er grasped both of her hands and gently caressed them, seriously saying, "I treat everyone well. To me, you all are the most important people in my life. I can forgive anything wrong you do, and I can see everything you do for me."
Baiyue looked at him, not knowing how to respond to his words. Cheng Ziang, carrying Yaning, looked at the two of them and couldn’t help but sigh.
On the way back, Luo’er seemed to have recovered a lot of energy. Baiyue was walking sullenly behind, watching her gloomy appearance, Cheng Ziang went over and said to her: "Do you know why you’re always overshadowed by Moumou?"
"Why?" Baiyue looks up at him.
Cheng Ziang glances at Luo’er carrying Yaning on his back and then says to her, "You lost because you weren’t proactive enough. If you were more like Moumou, I believe that Luo’er would like you more. He isn’t the typical overbearing CEO from romance novels who likes dim-witted girls, he prefers smarter ones."
"Is that so?" Baiyue stares blankly at him, and then she can’t help but ask one more question, "Why are you helping me?"
"Why am I helping you," Cheng Ziang sighs, looking at Luo’er’s back, "I don’t know. I always feel that Luo’er is somewhat biased. Because of his tolerance, Moumou has made many mistakes. Although this is a step in growth for a newbie, we no longer have the luck to make so many mistakes."
Once they returned to the manor, Luo’er started busying himself again. In a change from her usual behavior, Baiyue did not continue to enjoy his services, but instead followed him around aiding in tasks within her capacity. On one hand, she was concerned about his health, and on the other felt that Cheng Ziang’s words made sense.
Days passed, and Luo’er’s injuries didn’t relapse. Obviously without using magic, his injuries remained stable. But this wasn’t a solution, eventually, they had to find a way to remove the bullet lodged inside him and find a way to restore the damaged veins.
This vacation seemed really long, Luo’er pat his fingers calculating; since the last mission ended, they had rested for at least a month, without receiving any assignment from the headquarters. He even suspected that the headquarters might have been wiped out by the CIA.
Finally, during Luo’er’s daily anxious worrying, they received a notification from the headquarters to resume duty. They were asked to return to the headquarters immediately and accept their new assignments.
Hu Daoke was pushed onto the carriage wailing miserably by Luo’er. He was still immersed in the charm of the vacation, enjoying the services offered by Luo’er and Baiyue, hence was unwilling to wake up from his dream.
After two days of travel, the group finally returned to the headquarters that they hadn’t seen in a month. Everything was as before, with no changes. The hired mercenaries kept a vigilant guard around the perimeter, the workers inside the headquarters were very busy, paying no mind to their arrival.
After returning and settling in their dormitory, Luo’er alone went to Wang Xu’s office. He was just about to step inside when he heard the cacophony of unfamiliar voices from within the room.
"Three years after three years, and three years after that, it’s been twenty years already, have you guys made any progress on what you promised?"
Inside the office, a burly man with ragged clothes was leaning on the desk shouting at Wang Xu. Luo’er noticed a long sword on one side of his waist and a short sword on the other.
"We are working on it, don’t be impatient, a child needs time to grow up," Wang Xu seemed helpless facing the burly man’s imposing manner.
"When will there be a response?" the burly man asked.
"As soon as possible!" Wang Xu replied.
"That’s what you guys said last time too. I’ve listened to everything you’ve said and never refused anything, but all you ever do is stall!" Upon hearing this, the burly man became agitated.
"We’re not stalling, there’s already a result now. We just need to educate him properly on Earth then bring him over to reunite with you," Wang Xu said with a troubled look on his face.
"Next time I must see results, otherwise, I’m not doing this anymore!" The burly man turned around to leave after stating this.
It was at this point that Luo’er could finally see the burly man’s face clearly. He had standardized Aud people’s features, but with a more northern look. He had golden curly hair, a pair of sharp hawk eyes, and a light beard on his face. Luo’er could not shake off the feeling of familiarity even though he couldn’t recall where he had seen the man before.
The burly man wore ragged adventure light armor, a long sword and a short sword were hanging on his waist, seeming to be a swordsman. From his walking posture and movements, Luo’er could tell that he was quite an experienced swordsman.
The burly man suddenly took notice of Luo’er and stopped. He swiftly walked to Luo’er, and before the latter could react, he was already scrutinizing Luo’s face. Faced with the nearly 6 feet tall man, Luo’er seemed a bit passive
"You’re an Elf?" After sizing up Luo’er, the burly man shook his head with some regret. What surprised Luo’er was that he didn’t sense any disdain for half-elves in the man’s words.
"My apologies!" the burly man said, patting Luo’er’s head and sighing as he walked out of the office.
"Who is he..." Luo’er stood there in a daze, pointing at the door and asking.
"Oh, he’s one of our informants, an old acquaintance. We’ve had dealings for quite a long time," Wang Xu replied nonchalantly.
"What were you arguing about with him?" Luo’er continued asking.
"This fella has some embarrassing problems, he’s always wanted a child." Wang Xu said this while barely suppressing his schadenfreude.
"You’re using the Origin Project for this?" Luo’er frowned at him and asked.
"It’s also beneficial for everyone," Wang Xu said, spreading his hands, "many people from the Otherworld are infertile due to various reasons. This could potentially become a popular industry in the future."
