Chapter 219: Chapter 212: Return to Earth_1

The sound of footsteps grew closer. Following, a familiar figure appeared at the door. Upon the first sight of him, Luo Chuan couldn’t help but exclaim.

"Lin Wei!"

"Luo Chuan!"

Luo Chuan didn’t expect the visitor to be Lin Wei, the rookie he had relieved on the battlefield. Astonishingly, the guy hadn’t fallen in battle and was now in the Otherworld.

"Luo Chuan!" Upon seeing Luo Chuan, Lin Wei’s eyes instantly reddened. He lunged at Luo Chuan and exclaimed, "I’ve had a hard time because of you. You relieved me and took my place, do you know I got scolded by the commander when I returned to Earth? You... you... you..."

As his voice trailed off, Lin Wei began to sob, overcoming him to the point that he could no longer speak.

"You’re still as immature as before!" Seeing Lin Wei’s state, Luo Chuan patted his back and said with a smile.

"What happened? When the ammunition exploded that day, I was really worried. I honestly thought you were dead!" Lin Wei pushed Luo Chuan away and asked in disbelief.

"I just knocked myself out." Luo Chuan explained.

"Where did you go after? Why didn’t you return to Earth? You could have sought the High-Peak people, they would have safely sent you back to Earth!" Lin Wei said in excitement.

"It’s a long story..." Luo Chuan sighed deeply, not continuing his explanation.

"Who is this little girl?" Just then Lin Wei noticed Luo’er standing beside Luo Chuan. With his black shoulder-length hair, Lin Wei mistook him for a girl.

"He is my son," Luo Chuan explained.

"Son?" Lin Wei was stunned at the response.

At this moment, Luo’er was awakened by their conversation. He rubbed his eyes with his pudgy hand, looked up and gazed at Lin Wei with his deep green eyes.

"His eyes... No, his ears too!" Lin Wei’s shock grew as he turned to Luo Chuan, hoping for an explanation.

"Luo’er’s mother is a Wood Elf." Luo Chuan clarified.

"Elf...Elf...Elf..." Lin Wei knelt down, obviously stunned. He extended his trembling hands to touch Luo’er’s soft cheeks and his dangling pointed ears. With stutter, he said, "This... this is a real elf, my god!"

"Where’s the child’s mother?" Lin Wei asked, turning his head.

"The child’s mother has left. She returned to the Elven Kingdom," Luo Chuan simply explained.

Lin Wei withdrew his hand, suddenly stood up and said, "I’ll arrange for you two to return to Earth right away. Don’t worry, you wait for me here."

With that, he turned and walked to the door but stopped before exiting. He turned once again to look at Luo’er. Luo Chuan didn’t like the look in his eyes, one filled with yearning.

It didn’t take long for Lin Wei to return, his arrangements quick. According to him, the news of Luo Chuan’s return meant the whole office in Otherworld was busy.

He brought a set of cloaks for them to put on. He held Luo’er, and a worker helped Luo Chuan. The group moved in a covert manner toward the Otherworld Gate.

Seeing the majestic Otherworld Gate again, Luo Chuan was filled with emotions. Years ago, multinational troops came to the Otherworld, only to meet with a devastating defeat. According to Lin Wei, their rear support troops were relatively lucky. After being surrounded by the Otherworld Allied Army for five days, the forward multinational troops were decimated. Over eighty percent of Earth’s troops were either wounded, captured, or killed, marking it the most devastating military operation since the 21st century.

"How is General Luo Qishan doing?" On the way to the Otherworld Gate, Luo Chuan couldn’t help but ask.

After what happened last time, Lin Wei already knew of the relationship between General Luo Qishan and Luo Chuan. He answered lightly, "The Chief is still physically strong. When they reported your death to Earth, he was sick for a whole week."

Hearing his words, Luo Chuan dropped his gaze. He naturally knew what his death meant to his father. Only his reckless self back then didn’t consider his father and replaced Lin Wei relying on his own enthusiasm.

"Don’t worry, we have sent someone to notify him. When he knows you’re bringing him a grandchild, he will be grinning from ear to ear," Lin Wei holding Luo’er comforted Luo Chuan with a laugh.

They were finally about to cross the Otherworld Gate. Lin Wei had taken care of all the arrangements; no one would disturb them. Luo’er, looking at the undulating, brilliantly shimmering barrier in front of him, was filled with fear, his subconscious response was to grip Lin Wei’s clothes tightly.

Passing through the Otherworld Gate, Luo Chuan experienced a feeling of being torn apart. Barely regaining his composure, a bout of intense heat hit his face, the blistering sun baking the ground, too bright to open their eyes.

"We’re back, back on Earth." Luo Chuan muttered to himself, subconsciously looking back at the Otherworld Gate behind him. He didn’t know how Nina was doing or when their family could finally reunite.

By this time, a military jeep had tightly cordoned off the area where they had arrived, Ulysses City did not exist yet, and the whole area around the Otherworld Gate was a military station.

Luo’er and his father got into the jeep amidst the crowd, and the fleet immediately set off, heading straight for the military airport. Upon arriving at the airport, a large military transport plane was parked there, its cabin door wide open. The jeep they rode in showed no signs of stopping and drove straight into the transport plane. With a shake, the plane closed its cabin door and immediately took off from the airport.

After taking off from the airport, the transport plane circled in the sky and flew directly towards the domestic military airport, with the whole process taking less than thirty minutes.

Meanwhile, the accompanying medical staff on the transport plane also checked Luo Chuan’s physical condition and as he had guessed, his body had been severely corroded by magic power.

While checking Luo Chuan, the medical staff also checked Luo’er’s physical condition. What surprised them was that his body was perfectly normal, and there was no sign of magical dependency due to leaving the Otherworld.

After flying for several hours, the plane finally arrived at the domestic military airport. An ambulance that had been prepared in advance picked up Luo Chuan and Luo’er and rushed them straight to the nearest hospital for treatment.

When Luo Chuan woke up, it was already the second day since they had returned to Earth. He lay in the hospital bed, felt a jolt in his heart and quickly looked around. When he saw Luo’er sitting by the bed, playing with the toy that Lin Wei had bought for him, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Not long after, hurried and noisy footsteps sounded from outside the door. Next, the door was pushed open, and a familiar yet aged figure appeared before Luo Chuan, it was his father, General Luo Qishan.

Luo Chuan remembered the last time he saw him was two years before the Otherworld War when he told his father that he wanted to join the army. But Luo Qishan objected to his idea, which angered him. The father and son had a big argument, and Luo Chuan spitefully enlisted, they haven’t seen each other since then.

Luo Chuan vaguely remembered that his father’s hair wasn’t so white back then, and his face wasn’t so wrinkled. But now he was full of white hair, and his face was lined with wrinkles.

Before entering the room, Luo Qishan was crying strongly. Although he didn’t shed tears when he walked in, his red-rimmed eyes still betrayed him.

"Ba...back...back?" Luo Qishan forced himself not to look at him, he hung his head down with his hands behind his back, stuttering out these few words.

"Sorry, father, I’ve caused you trouble." Luo Chuan lowered his head and said.

"It’s fine as long as you’re back, as long as you’re back." Luo Qishan turned around, struggling to contain his emotion and said.

"Luo’er, come here!" Luo Chuan called out to Luo’er who was sitting by the bed playing. He got up and ran to Luo Chuan.

"Daddy!" Luo’er’s childish voice made Luo Qishan shudder.

"That’s your grandpa, daddy’s daddy, your family too, go call him grandpa!" Luo Chuan whispered in his ear.

Luo’er toddled over to Luo Qishan and tugged at his trouser leg, looking up at him with his big, innocent eyes and shouted in his babyish voice, "Grandpa!"

"Ah!" Hearing his voice, Luo Qishan was completely flustered. He turned around and bent down to look at Luo’er, his trembling hands clumsily riffling through his pockets. Finally, he found a pen and twisted down to give it to Luo’er, "Here, this...this is a gift from grandpa!"

Luo’er took the pen and waved it around, looking up at Luo Qishan with a naive face. Seeing his emerald-green eyes, Luo Qishan could no longer hold back, he squatted down and pulled Luo’er tightly into his arms.

"Daddy!" Luo’er looked at Luo Chuan with a plea in his eyes. Luo Chuan smiled but didn’t say anything, instead he nodded at him, indicating him not to be afraid.

Luo Qishan forcefully picked him up from the ground. Looking at Luo’er’s innocent and lovely face, he said excitedly, "Luo’er, I am your grandpa!"

Luo’er tilted his head, staring at him, and shouted, "Grandpa!"

"Ah, ah, good boy!" Luo Qishan could no longer contain himself, he hugged Luo’er tightly and burst into tears, continuously wiping his tears away.

Suddenly, Luo Chuan’s violent cough interrupted the joyful reunion. He looked up at Luo Qishan and Luo’er, his face becoming more and more unpleasant.

"Are you alright?" Luo Qishan finally put down his pride, looking anxiously at him as he asked.

"It’s said to be Magic Power Erosion." Luo Chuan coughed a few times as he spoke.

Hearing his words, Luo Qishan’s face changed. Seeing his reaction, Luo Chuan probably understood what was going on and said, "Father, if I can’t take care of Luo’er, please take care of him for me. I’m sorry for failing to fulfill my duty as a son."

"What nonsense are you saying? This disease can be cured, are you planning to leave Luo’er behind and go away?" Hearing his son’s words, Luo Qishan was outraged.

"Sorry, father, I’ve realized that I probably won’t survive. Please take care of Luo’er. When he grows up, please send him to the Otherworld to find his mother!" Luo Chuan coughed a few more times, his face becoming even more sickly, his words sounding increasingly like last words.
