Chapter 190: Chapter 186: Exposed Tracks

"Is the elf named Luo’er the one with black hair?" Mooer asked excitedly.

Now, as soon as he heard ’black hair’, he became instinctively sensitive. Because those who collaborated with Ronisca were all black-haired.

"Yes, that Luo’er indeed has a head full of black hair." Yila seemed startled by Mooer’s excited reaction.

"Why didn’t you mention this when the investigation team asked you?" Mooer questioned.

"I thought it wasn’t significant. He’s a Southerner, not from the Otherworld. There are no half-elves in the Otherworld." Yila replied cautiously.

"Of course there are no half-elves in the Otherworld." Mooer mumbled thoughtfully to himself, deep in thought.

He then continued to question Sara, "Sara, are you sure that brother Luo’er’s hair is golden?"

"Yes!" Sara affirmed with a nod.

"I see." Having heard her confirmation, Mooer came to some conclusions.

The Earth may not have half-elves now, but that doesn’t mean it never will. Earth’s superiority over their world was not due to their military might, but rather their superior systems and advanced technology.

Before the Prophetic War, Mooer never believed that gunpowder-fired shells could create such astonishing explosions, and have such extensive range. But the nations of Earth had achieved this, their cannons could launch from tens of kilometers away and produce violent explosions upon impact on the battlefield, overwhelming even heavily armored knights with rune-embossed armour.

Before encountering the Earth’s army, Mooer never believed that weapons fired with gunpowder could have such high firing rates, yet Earth’s armies had also made that a reality. With their support troops annihilated, Earth’s army had held their own for four days, even when faced with the Otherworld Allied Army that greatly outnumbered them. If not for timely reinforcements, the casualties of the Otherworld Allied Army would have possibly reached an unimaginable number.

So to Mooer, there was nothing the nations of Earth couldn’t achieve. While there are currently no half-elves on Earth, it doesn’t mean there never will be.

"Black hair, half-elf, Yazhi City..." When Mooer connected these clues together, he felt a sudden chill.

Yazhi City, black hair, yes, it was them, against the General Staff Headquarters in the Otherworld! They were the ones who got people onto the airboat and transferred them to Helros.

Realizing this, Mooer quickly released Sara, turning to Yila, "You two go home first, I’ve got important matters to attend to now, I’ll come back later!"

"Father..." Sara looked at him reluctantly.

"I understand, Sara, let’s go!" Yila, understanding Mooer’s thoughts, picked up Sara who was reluctant to leave the office.

"Guard, summon the Chief of the Mobility Corps!" After Yila and Sara left the office, Mooer shouted at the door.

Mooer’s concern had become a reality. He was certain that the headquarters had noticed their concealment of military equipment and their unauthorized provision of cannons to Masya. That half-elf named Luo’er must be one of their men. Even if he wasn’t trained by them, he could be a mercenary they hired. These people came to Helros to learn their secrets.

"Commander!" The chief of the Mobility Corps rushed into the office hastily.

"Order an immediate lockdown of the city and search for any suspicious individuals!" Mooer ordered loudly.

"Understood!" The Chief nodded and ran out at once.

Mooer needed to capture these people, not only to find evidence that Earth’s headquarters was spying on them, but also to catch them before the other high-ranking officials in Helros did.

If these people fell into his hands, there could still be a chance to salvage the situation with headquarters. If these people were captured by the high-ranking officials led by the Crown Prince, they were likely to use this as a reason to break ties with headquarters.

Mooer knew that Ronisca at present needed the support of Earth’s nations more than anything and could not afford to act independently. If the higher-ups forced the King to sever their thirty-year cooperation with the headquarters, the loss would be enormous.

Mooer, being the Air Force Commander, knew all too well that it was with the help from Earth’s nations that Ronisca’s airships were able to upgrade three generations in just thirty years. Before the Prophetic War, Ronisca’s airships had not been upgraded for a hundred years.

Whether it was the propeller engines, turbojet engines, or the constantly operating steam engines in their factories, all had experienced breakthrough development thanks to the support from Earth. Losing Earth’s support would undoubtedly have a devastating impact on Ronisca’s military and industrial sector.

For at least the next two hundred years, Ronisca must cooperate with Earth, otherwise Ronisca’s technological advantage would come to a standstill.

Now the Earth side was already suspicious of them because of their concealment of military equipment. If these people were to encounter those Whites in the city, they would definitely suspect that Ronisca was cooperating with the Whites. By then, no amount of explanation from Mooer would suffice.

Therefore, the most pressing matter now was to catch these people. If nothing unexpected happened, he would get them out of the city, or take them to Yazhi City to explain to the officials at the headquarters.

Of course, this was merely Mooer’s wishful thinking. The people in the palace didn’t think the same. If the spies from headquarters were caught by them, there’s no telling what kind of trouble they might stir up. If it truly lead to the breaking of cooperation between them and the headquarters, it would really be a case of what’s done is done.

Following Mooer’s order, Helros entered a city-wide state of alert. The Mobility Corps of the city defense started to scour the inns in groups, investigating the identities of the newcomers. If they found any suspicious individual, they would arrest them right away.

With the disturbance created by the Mobility Corps, Luo’er and Tangmo also felt an ominous atmosphere. They hurriedly returned to their inn and woke up the nightshift members, preparing to flee as everyone packed their belongings.

"Why would they suddenly conduct a city-wide search? Was it triggered by what happened last night?" Cheng Ziang thought of last night’s events and felt they should nip the situation in the bud.

"No," Luo’er shook his head and spoke his own theory, "It’s probably because of Yila and her daughter!"

"Yila?" Hearing this name, Tangmo froze at once.

Luo’er glanced at her and continued, "Her identity is not simple. She is the wife of the commander of the Ronisca Air Force!"

Hearing about Yila’s identity, Tangmo froze on the spot.

"We shouldn’t have let her and her daughter go!" Luo’er regretted.

Hearing Luo’er’s words, Tangmo fell silent. Because they had to rescue Yila and her daughter, Luo’er almost died on the airship. She always felt deeply guilty about it.

Cheng Ziang glanced at the two and asked, "What should we do now?"

"The city gates might already be closed, we have to think of another way to get out of here." Luo’er pondered.

"Luo’er." Baiyue suddenly called him out weakly and pointed to a map stacked on the table. Luo’er unfolded the map and an idea immediately came to his mind.

"The Air Force Base, right, we can steal a flyer there and take off from Helros. As long as we can get out of Helros, it will be okay!" Luo’er suggested.

"Stealing a plane, I like that!" Hu Daoke’s eyes lit up hearing Luo’er’s suggestion as he clenched his fists.

"Who knows how to fly?" Cheng Ziang asked the key question.

"I... can..." Baiyue weakly raised her hand.

During pre-war studies, she had flipped through the High-peak people’s flying manual, so she had basically memorized the text on the control buttons.

"Nice, Yue’er!" Hearing Baiyue’s words, Hu Daoke immediately became energized.

"We’ll go out first, find a corner to wait until dark, then find a way to sneak into the air force base!" Luo’er suggested.

"We have no other choice." Cheng Ziang nodded.

Just as they prepared to depart, they heard a commotion downstairs. Luo’er glanced out the window and saw a group of city defense mobility corps soldiers had arrived at their inn and were standing guard at the entrance.

"It seems we have to break out ahead of time. Everyone check your weapons and equipment!" Luo’er took a deep breath and instructed everyone.

After his command, everyone started to check their weapons. Just as they prepared for a desperate showdown, intense gunfire and explosions echoed from the distant streets. Luo’er immediately looked from the window and saw a plume of smoke rising from a far-off street. The soldiers outside the inn also started running towards the source of the gunfire.

"Great opportunity, everyone move out, our target is the Air Force Base!" Luo’er pulled back on the bolt of his gun, then waved his hand and shouted.

A group of people rushed down the staircase to the first floor. At the time, there were still many people in the lobby, all staring blankly as the five of them ran out of the inn, guns in hand.

Once they reached the streets, they realized the city was almost deserted due to the crackdown by the Mobility Corps. Therefore, they began to move along the street toward the direction of the Air Force Base.

A series of intense gunshots echoed again from the distance, continuing for a few minutes before stopping. A group of people at an intersection suddenly darted into a dark alleyway. At that moment, a group of dwarf soldiers ran past them toward the direction of the gunshots.

Luo’er wasn’t sure who was battling with the city defense mobility corps, but he was very grateful to whoever they were. Without them, they would have probably been captured by now.

After sprinting through several blocks, they needed to run almost another kilometer to reach the Air Force Base. Luo’er hoped those people would engage the city defense Mobility Corps one more time. Although it sounded cruel, he hoped they would lure the people at the Air Force Base as well. That would make it easier for them to hijack the aircraft.
