Chapter 1720: After modification: Chapter 1713: Inside and Out Coordination
"Wait, wait a moment. Can I visit the Saint once more?" Xing Hu asked urgently.
"Take care of your injuries first," Feng said, looking back.
"My injuries are no big deal. Rest for a night, and I’ll be fine. That guy only injured my Huihai," Xing Hu motioned with his hand.
"I already told you, that was your own doing. If you don’t even understand that, then clearly you haven’t learned your lesson," Feng said helplessly.
"I know I was wrong. Next time, I’ll avoid close combat," Xing Hu scratched his head in embarrassment.
"Hey, Little Fengye." Just as Feng was about to turn away and leave, a voice called out—it was Fulajie’er.
"What is it?" Feng asked, lowering her voice.
"Hmm, if all goes well, Anxiang Zheng should release the prisoner tomorrow. Of course, he won’t let us go openly. This kid has decent skills; why not have him wait outside the city to assist us?" Fulajie’er suggested after some thought.
"He’s not one of us," Feng said, puzzled.
"But he’s obedient enough," Fulajie’er replied.
"Is this your idea, or Luo’er’s request?" Feng asked, frowning slightly.
"What difference does it make? Don’t forget, I’m the de facto commander of the Advance Team—you won’t go wrong listening to me," Fulajie’er said confidently.
"Luo’er only appointed you as battlefield commander..."
"Alright, alright. In any case, the boy wants to meet Luo’er. Let him help out; there shouldn’t be any issues, right? Luo’er is the Saint—he’s not someone just anyone can meet at will," Fulajie’er said.
"Hmm, fine then..." Feng pondered for a moment before reluctantly nodding.
She then turned back again to face Xing Hu, saying, "If you want to see the Saint, you’ll need to do us a favor."
"Say no more!" Xing Hu agreed readily without even asking for details, nodding decisively.
"The Saint intends to leave Guyi Government, and we might encounter some unnecessary trouble along the way. Your assistance might be needed," Feng explained after thinking briefly.
"No problem, leave it to me. No one will harm the Saint."
Xing Hu blinked, and for some reason, when recalling his first meeting with Luo’er, his heart thudded involuntarily.
"I’ll inform you of the specifics later. Just wait at the inn for now, alright?" Feng continued to ask.
"Of course. You’ve all helped me so much—how could I repay kindness with ingratitude?" Xing Hu said, cupping his fists respectfully.
"Then, I’ll take my leave," Feng said with satisfaction as she turned away.
"Take care!" Xing Hu raised his voice, cupping his fists again.
Feng left Xing Hu, activated her super mobility device, and dashed toward the courier station under cover of night.
Meanwhile, in a secluded room, Yebo lit a candle and peeled off the human-skin mask he was wearing, revealing his true face—it was Sheyan, one of the Yichuan Clan’s Shadow Guards from Yin State.
Before long, a faint, lingering fragrance filled the dimly lit room. The black sparrow on Changyi’s shoulder let out an untimely screech, which everyone knew carried a certain implication.
"I didn’t expect your methods to be so crude and simplistic..."
With a clear and melodious jingle, Hun Jiansi’s petite figure appeared in the room. The candlelight cast a long shadow of her, but her physical form seemed so elusive.
"This kind of thing isn’t hard—Anxiang Zheng just couldn’t be bothered to deal with it," Sheyan said with a cold smile.
"But your means are unnecessarily underhanded. To set a trap, you even harmed the innocent. The Saint is deeply averse to such actions," Hun Jiansi said emotionlessly.
"We’re not under the Saint’s rule. What’s the matter, Hun Jiansi—are you planning to serve another master?" Changyi sneered.
He was one of the few who could unmistakably connect the name Hun Jiansi to the person before him. Not even the Ghost Hag, or the powerful Sheyan, possessed such clarity.
"The Saint isn’t foolish. If he discovers your identities and holds the Young Mansion accountable, what would you do?" Hun Jiansi asked coldly.
"As long as you keep your lips sealed," Sheyan said, his tone suddenly shifting as he continued, "But I’ve heard that you’ve leaked quite a bit of intel about the Emperor’s Sect to a certain man."
"Are you questioning my loyalty to the Young Mansion?" Hun Jiansi squinted and asked.
"Love blossoming for the first time—it’s natural to get distracted by rare flowers and strange plants. One cannot help it," Sheyan shrugged indifferently.
"If I were to defect, you’d never find me. The Young Mansion has always said, ’If Hun Jiansi can be trusted, use her. If not, don’t.’ It seems you don’t take the Young Lord’s words very seriously," Hun Jiansi said calmly.
"Fine words, but people change. When the Young Mansion spoke those words, they didn’t foresee you having a change of heart," Sheyan retorted.
"I’ve never fallen for anyone, so where’s the talk of changes of heart?"
"Alright, alright," the Ghost Hag stepped in to mediate, "We’re not here to interrogate Hun Jiansi. Assign the tasks properly—if you want to argue, why not do so before the Young Mansion? It would be both thrilling and productive."
Ever the seasoned strategist, the Ghost Hag’s words silenced not only Changyi but also Sheyan, both refraining from further taunts. Clearly, they harbored deep fear and reverence for the Young Mansion.
"Anxiang Zheng plans to release the prisoner, no later than tomorrow night. Changyi and I will provide support outside the city. You and the Ghost Hag will coordinate from within. We must ensure the Saint’s safe departure," Sheyan declared, clearing his throat to refocus on the issue at hand.
"Which route?" Hun Jiansi asked.
"Through the West Market, exiting via the Ximen," Sheyan responded.
"Isn’t that quite chaotic? Aren’t you afraid of complications?" Hun Jiansi asked in doubt.
"It wouldn’t be chaotic—except for us making it so," Sheyan smirked, shrugging.
"I’ll inform the Saint about leaving early. Once outside the city, who will be providing additional support?" Hun Jiansi asked again.
"Head about twenty li northeast after leaving the city, and you’ll encounter people from the Dongliang family," Sheyan said.
"Would the Dongliang family really risk offending the Anxiang family for the Saint?" Hun Jiansi asked worriedly.
"It’s the Wen family’s order. Without the Wen family’s backing, the Dongliang family would have long been annihilated by the Anxiang family," Sheyan commented lightly.
"I just worry there might be unexpected developments," Hun Jiansi muttered, her head lowered in thought.
"Relax, the Dongliang family and the Saint have a certain connection," Changyi waved dismissively.
Hearing his words, Hun Jiansi pondered briefly and seemed to realize something. She then looked up and asked, "Dongliang Yu?"
"Dongliang Yu reported that he gets along well with the Saint. I believe their relationship is amicable," Sheyan said.
"But I heard that Dongliang Yu has never met the Saint, only his subordinates," Hun Jiansi countered.
"Who told you that?"
"Who do you think?" Hun Jiansi smirked mysteriously.
"Anyway, the Saint likely bears no ill will towards the Dongliang family. He’s a rational, dignified individual. The Anxiang family’s underhanded dealings have probably long infuriated him," Sheyan said.
"The Saint possesses immense power yet interacts humbly, winning people over with principles. In this regard, the Saint is a natural ally of the Wen family and a natural enemy of the Wu family," he continued.
"You can sing his praises all you want—he won’t thank you for it. If there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave," Hun Jiansi said, cutting off the conversation. Without waiting for anyone else to intervene, she stopped ringing her bells. At the same time, the fragrance in the air grew stronger, making everyone feel dizzy and dazed.
"We shouldn’t have invited her here—the whole room reeks... ugh, my head’s spinning..." Changyi complained, clutching his head.
The black sparrow on his shoulder, too, seemed subdued by the scent, drooping its head and losing its earlier vitality.
"Surely she wouldn’t use such a trick against that man, would she?" Sheyan muttered under his breath after a long silence, clutching his forehead.
Leaving Sheyan and the others behind, Hun Jiansi glided like a ghost through the streets, moving effortlessly through the heavily guarded courier station, returning to a place that stirred a sense of familiarity in her.
Cheng Ziang was still in Luo’er’s room, waiting for good news from Feng. Opening a window, she leaped onto the windowsill and sat down, gazing at the bright moon.
The clouds that had covered the moonlight earlier seemed to drift into her heart, bringing with them a deep melancholy.
