Chapter 1651: Chapter 1644: Unguarded Contact
Cheng Ziang didn’t understand why he could so accurately predict Hun Jiansi’s presence and quickly lock onto her location.
Actually, this question wasn’t difficult because the Fog Concealment Skill could defend against ordinary people but not against gods, or rather demigods. And next to Cheng Ziang, there was a demigod coiled. Even if he were more dull, he could guess that this matter was related to Liseya.
After paying respects at Huayu Ting once again, the carriages of the Advance Team slowly left the gates of Bicheng Mansion under the escort of the Huayu Family guards, heading towards the main road.
Cheng Ziang didn’t choose to ride in the carriage; instead, he followed on horseback like those guards. As his designated attendant, Hun Jiansi immediately rode up to him with a cheerful gaze.
"You..."
Cheng Ziang turned his head to glance at her, wanting to say something, but his mind was blank, evidently still under the influence of the Fog Concealment Skill.
"I didn’t expect you to become more formidable, able to immediately detect my presence. It seems I’ll have to stay away from you in the future." Hun Jiansi said with a smile in a lowered voice.
"You’re deliberately approaching me, aren’t you?" Cheng Ziang rolled his eyes at her and shook his head helplessly.
"How could it be? You recognized me. I thought at this distance, you surely wouldn’t detect me." Hun Jiansi explained.
"I said you mustn’t approach the Saint, isn’t that right?" Cheng Ziang furrowed his brow and then asked.
"That’s right, but I haven’t approached, have I?" Hun Jiansi tilted her head and said.
"How did you sneak in?"
"Isn’t it foolish to ask such a question? Who do you think I am?" Hun Jiansi showed a confident smile.
She was very confident in her unique skill, believing no one could discern her trail. If someone did see through her trail, Hun Jiansi would feel panicked. But seemingly, Cheng Ziang was an exception, or perhaps she hoped to be discovered by Cheng Ziang.
"You can follow, I don’t mind, but you absolutely cannot approach the Saint, not even speak to him, understand?" Cheng Ziang said, pausing for a moment while pursing his lips.
"Why are you so nervous about the Saint?" Hun Jiansi couldn’t help but ask.
"His life is more important than mine." Cheng Ziang said.
"But I think you’re more important." Hun Jiansi leaned forward, moving closer to him as she spoke.
"You don’t understand this kind of bond, in my heart, no one is more important than him." Cheng Ziang sighed and said.
"A bond..." Hun Jiansi’s eyes dimmed, and her voice gradually softened.
"Right, what did you say just now?"
Suddenly reacting, Cheng Ziang realized he missed something important, so he asked instinctively.
"You didn’t hear it?"
Hun Jiansi looked up at him, showing a disappointed, bitter expression. She gently bit her lip, slowly lowered her head, then lightly shook her head and said: "No, it’s nothing, nothing important, you didn’t hear it, so forget it."
"Anyway, as long as you don’t approach him, anything can be discussed." Cheng Ziang shook his head, no longer delving into these matters.
"Actually, you ultimately don’t trust me, do you?" Hun Jiansi asked bitterly.
"Knowing someone’s appearance doesn’t mean knowing their heart, no one will unconditionally trust a person instantly, that’s an irrational act. It’s a form of self-protection, unrelated to trust, and I believe you do the same." Cheng Ziang said.
"No, I choose to trust you, unconditionally trust..." Hun Jiansi’s vacant eyes gazed forward, becoming somewhat dazed as she slowly spoke.
"Why?" Hearing this answer, Cheng Ziang instinctively froze, and so he instinctively asked.
"From the heart!"
Hun Jiansi withdrew her empty gaze, then looked at Cheng Ziang, her eyes becoming firm and fervent again.
"Uh..."
Cheng Ziang found it hard to withstand her straightforward and fervent confession, had to turn his face away, and fell into awkward silence.
In Cheng Ziang’s life, it wasn’t the first time he’d encountered such bold girls expressing their feelings to him.
During his days at Haiya Academy, Cheng Ziang also received many love letters and confessions from girls. However, his aloof facade helped him avoid those awkward situations.
He responded with his aloof nature to stifle those fervent emotional requests from the girls, causing them to utterly lose hope for him.
He felt that he didn’t need love; having brothers and confidants around was enough. If he felt annoyed, he could hang out with Hu Daoke. Even to see beautiful girls, he didn’t have to go anywhere else, as there was a Wood Elf prettier than girls by his side, who would blush under his gaze.
He believed that accompanying love came responsibility and duty, which is why he didn’t dare to break through the barrier in his relationship with Luoya. He couldn’t guarantee that he could give Luoya a future, so he chose silence.
Actually, Luoya wasn’t hard to pursue. Although her words often contradicted her heart, she was a simple girl, after all, a little princess of the Luo Family in exile. As long as Cheng Ziang was willing, he could become Luo’er’s brother-in-law anytime, but whenever he tried to take a further step, he felt inexplicably afraid.
It was like this time when they encountered hardships; Cheng Ziang couldn’t bear to imagine how sad Luoya would be. If they really came together and he met an untimely end, it would mean betraying her, leaving her widowed.
In Cheng Ziang’s view, the biggest difference between Hun Jiansi and the other girls pursuing him is that she seemed almost willing to risk her life to pursue him.
The Fog Concealment Skill emphasized concealment, but Hun Jiansi deliberately removed her defense towards Cheng Ziang, opening her heart. It was a very dangerous move because, as long as Cheng Ziang wanted to, he could kill Hun Jiansi any time. After all, she was just a Nine Stream, and a girl at that, not as powerful as Cheng Ziang.
"Does she care about my true self or my real self?" Cheng Ziang sighed internally, murmuring to himself.
Not far within a spacious carriage, Tangmo was holding Luo’er, who was feeling a bit carsick, and was eagerly engaging her in a conversation about her teaching experience. At that moment, the magic in the air inside the carriage suddenly distorted slightly, and then Fulajie’er appeared out of thin air with a look of disdain, clicking her tongue repeatedly.
"You’ve seen it before, why do you make that face." Seeing Fulajie’er’s expression, Tangmo stopped babbling and said unhappily.
"I’m not targeting you, just looking for trouble for myself." Fulajie’er rolled her eyes and said.
"Then what does your expression mean?" Tangmo asked.
"I’m curious about the two behind." Fulajie’er twirled in place and lightly floated down to sit on Luo’er’s shoulder.
"The two?" Tangmo and Luo’er asked in unison.
"Cheng Ziang and Hun Jiansi!" Fulajie’er said unhurriedly.
"Hun Jiansi!" The two exclaimed immediately.
"Relax, isn’t Cheng Ziang watching her from behind?" Fulajie’er comforted.
"If it’s Ziang, then there shouldn’t be any problems." Luo’er nodded in relief.
"Why do you trust his capabilities so much?" Tangmo asked.
"When it comes to interacting with girls, Ziang has always been quite adept." Luo’er said.
"Ziang is our prospective brother-in-law; don’t forget that." Tangmo said, hugging his arm and lightly poking his smooth cheek.
"There’s no official engagement, don’t play matchmaker randomly." Luo’er waved his hand dismissively.
He seemingly hadn’t realized that Tangmo had taken advantage of him.
"You really are shameless in front of Luo’er as always..." Fulajie’er shook her head, sighing at their interaction.
She was already accustomed to Tangmo’s pestering of Luo’er; it seemed that ever since this girl met Luo’er, she hadn’t given up on pestering him.
Of course, according to Earthlings’ perspective on lifespan, all members of the Advance Team were basically over 25 years old. And Luo’er was approaching the age of forty.
However, being of the long-lived kind, Luo’er and Tangmo remained the youngest-looking in the Advance Team all along. Not to mention Luo’er, with his Royal Wood Elf lineage. While Tangmo, due to his Dwarven bloodline, similarly had delayed development of his appearance.
If all members of the Advance Team stood together, Hu Daoke, without a doubt, appeared to be the oldest, possibly mistaken for the leader of the Advance Team.
As for Cheng Ziang, although he also possessed Elf lineage, his appearance was becoming more mature, increasingly resembling his father, with that unique aura of a seasoned older man.
