Chapter 1621: Chapter 1614: Choosing to Cooperate
"You should trust us, and you only can trust us. Because we are unlike the people of this world, perhaps we can offer you help," Cheng Ziang said earnestly.
Cheng Ziang’s words were sincere in attitude, earnest in tone. So, Huayu Ting fell into deep thought.
After hesitating for a while, just when Huayu Ling was about to stop struggling, Huayu Ting suddenly waved his hand, and Huayu Ling, like a kite with its string cut, was flung into a corner.
"I spared her because I trust you, not because I have forgiven her," Huayu Ting said coldly.
Huayu Ling was thrown into the corner and immediately fainted. The Shadow Guard glanced at Huayu Ting tentatively, slowly moved to Huayu Ling’s side, and checked her condition.
And Huayu Ting, just stood there quietly, not caring about his younger sister’s situation in the slightest.
"I have no intention of judging your actions, but now that you have reached this point, you should think carefully about what your next steps should be," Cheng Ziang said seriously.
Huayu Ting was silent for a moment, then suddenly looked up towards him and asked abruptly, "Would you like to come into the courtyard and sit for a while?"
"It would be my pleasure," Cheng Ziang nodded.
He knew that Huayu Ting wanted to have a proper talk with him face-to-face.
Huayu Ting glanced indifferently at Huayu Ling and said lightly, "Take this girl away. If she comes near here again, don’t blame me for being heartless and merciless!"
"Your subordinate obeys..." The Shadow Guard nodded and said with pursed lips.
Following Huayu Ting, Cheng Ziang and Feng stepped into the heavily guarded courtyard. The courtyard was spacious, the houses in the distance had turned their lights off.
Huayu Ting led them to a pavilion, gestured for them to sit down, and then took a seat opposite of them.
"You too, take a seat," Cheng Ziang tugged on Feng’s sleeve, indicating for her to sit beside him.
This action of his was observed by Huayu Ting. It had two meanings: first, Cheng Ziang was not on guard against Huayu Ting, therefore he let Feng, who was responsible for combat, lower her defenses. Second, Cheng Ziang did not take Feng for granted as a servant, but considered her as his comrade.
"My apologies, I do not have any tea to offer as hospitality," Huayu Ting said, looking at the empty stone table with slight remorse.
"That’s alright, this way we can get straight to the point without small talk," Cheng Ziang said, raising his palm.
"How much do you know about my affairs?" Huayu Ting asked after a pause.
"Everything," Cheng Ziang replied.
"How did you find out?"
"Would the Young Lord know, as saints are the mouthpiece of the gods, naturally they can overlook all quarters?"
"Haha..." Hearing this, Huayu Ting suddenly chuckled.
"I know you do not believe my words," Cheng Ziang said calmly, "and it stands to reason that you also do not believe in gods and spirits, which is understandable. But gods do exist."
"If gods exist, why do they allow their people to slaughter each other, causing widespread misery and lamentation among the living beings," Huayu Ting asked coldly.
"Heaven and earth are not benevolent; they treat all beings as straw dogs," Cheng Ziang said.
"What do you mean?" Huayu Ting asked, puzzled.
"Gods are fair. Matters of mortals should be solved by mortals themselves and not rely on divine will," Cheng Ziang explained.
"Haha, what use are gods then?" Huayu Ting let out a cold laugh again.
"Having a belief in one’s heart is better than living a life in confusion, isn’t it? Having traveled the world from a young age, the Young Lord must understand the suffering of the common people," Cheng Ziang said.
Upon hearing his words, Huayu Ting did not know why, but he put away his mocking smile, straightened his expression, and looked at Cheng Ziang with respect.
"I detest the institution of slavery!" Huayu Ting finally expressed his inner thoughts spontaneously.
"Count me in," Cheng Ziang lightly nodded his head.
"I can tell," Huayu Ting also nodded, "letting her sit by your side shows she is not your slave or subordinate."
"We are comrades, who have shared life and death together," Cheng Ziang said, putting his arm around Feng’s shoulders.
"That’s nice..." Watching their affectionate gesture, Huayu Ting smiled faintly but quickly put the smile away, becoming somber again.
"Now that the Young Lord has taken control of the Huayu Family’s power, what do you plan to do next?" Cheng Ziang further inquired.
"As long as the Wen Family does not perish, things will never be too bad," Huayu Ting answered.
"Then, what if the Wen Family is defeated?" Cheng Ziang asked.
"I will soon step into the Golden Core Realm." Huayu Ting did not answer the question directly but instead responded with something seemingly off-topic.
"Congratulations, Young Lord." Cheng Ziang nodded gently, understanding his intention.
The meaning of Huayu Ting was clear; if things really came to that, he could only rely on his own powerful cultivation.
A master of the Golden Core Realm, while not dominating the martial world unscrupulously, would still find it no problem to seek refuge with his wife.
"But have you ever thought about what will happen to the children after a thousand years, Young Lord?" Cheng Ziang pointedly addressed the issue Huayu Ting was trying to avoid.
Faced with this question, Huayu Ting fell into silence, unable to respond.
"The Young Lord is a one in ten thousand cultivation prodigy, thus achieving such success, but the children are all descendants of the Demon Clan, incapable of cultivation. After the Young Lord is gone, how will your children survive in Kyushu?" Cheng Ziang continued to ask.
Huayu Ting remained silent.
"Would the Young Lord have the children learn the ways of the Nine Streams? I think the Young Lord might not be willing to do that," Cheng Ziang inquired.
"The martial world is like a dye vat; once white cloth is immersed, it can never be restored to its original color," Huayu Ting sighed and said.
"However, we can help the Young Lord." Cheng Ziang revealed his proposition at the crucial moment.
"I would like the Manor Lord to enlighten me," Huayu Ting asked somewhat eagerly.
"Young Lord, do you know what lies to the west of here?" Cheng Ziang still held back on disclosing the full picture.
"Fengyu."
"And further west of Fengyu?"
"West Outer Heaven!"
"And what lies to the west of West Outer Heaven?" Cheng Ziang continued to press.
Huayu Ting narrowed his eyes, no longer answering, but fixed his gaze intently on Cheng Ziang.
"The West Continent, our realm," Cheng Ziang replied.
"The West Continent..." Huayu Ting muttered to himself.
"The cultivation system of the West Continent is completely different from the Eastern Continent. The Demon Clan might have no achievements in the Eastern Continent, but that doesn’t mean they have no prospects in West Outer Heaven," Cheng Ziang finally revealed his intention.
Following this, he briefly introduced the magic system of the Western Continent and concluded, "If the Young Lord trusts me, you may send your children to the Western Continent to study. As long as we are able to help, we will certainly provide full support."
Upon hearing this, Huayu Ting appeared somewhat excited but still held back, asking solemnly, "What are your intentions behind doing all this?"
"The Young Lord misunderstands us; we simply wish to make a friend," Cheng Ziang said with a chuckle.
"Make a friend..."
"Does the Young Lord believe in justice and fairness?" Cheng Ziang proceeded to ask.
"Those things are too vague, too... out of reach..." Huayu Ting sighed in response.
"What we do is for the sake of justice and fairness. We are merely mortals, not personifications of justice and fairness, but we have firm beliefs. We believe that all people and all worlds should be granted fairness and justice, which is the normal state of the world," Cheng Ziang said confidently.
"Just with you people?"
"Just with us, our goal is to resolve the ancient feud between the Demon Clan and the Human Race, to put a definitive end to this endless war. This is just the beginning; there is much more we can do," Cheng Ziang spoke more and more spiritedly.
"Should I envy you, or should I pity you?" Huayu Ting said with a light smile.
"You should feel envy, and you could even join us," Cheng Ziang responded.
"I won’t join you," Huayu Ting shook his head but then suddenly changed tone, continuing, "However, I am very willing to become friends with you people."
"Gentlemen seek the company of the righteous, the petty align with the insects. Thank you for your recognition, Young Lord," Cheng Ziang said happily.
"The more people like you there are, the less bad this world seems. I don’t easily trust a person, but I always remember that you saved Fei Yu and Yang Er. Just for that alone, no matter what kind of people you are, I should trust you," Huayu Ting nodded as he spoke.
"We will certainly not betray the Young Lord’s trust," Cheng Ziang said.
"I hope that will be the case," Huayu Ting nodded slightly, his eyes closing with a trace of weariness.
