Chapter 1607: Chapter 1600: The Transformation of a Genius
"No, don’t..." Fei Yu’s eyes widened, and she timidly shook her head.
"You don’t want to?" Huayu Ting grasped her hand, anxiously pressing for an answer.
"No, but you are..." Fei Yu’s eyes filled with tears again as she stuttered.
"That’s not important," Huayu Ting suddenly shouted, then grasped her, gazing at her intently as he said, "I’m Ating, you know that."
"But for someone like you, can I really be a match?" Fei Yu seemed somewhat shaken, her voice trembling as she asked.
"If you couldn’t be a match, you shouldn’t have thrown stones into the river in the first place. What was it that drew you to me back then, if not to play together, to always be together? That naive you, why have you become so timid now?" Huayu Ting asked emotionally.
"But we..." Fei Yu cried out.
"We will face a lot of trouble, but it’s okay, I will handle everything. As long as you’re willing, we won’t have any regrets, okay?" Huayu Ting’s tone was almost pleading.
After hearing his words, Fei Yu lowered her head and fell into a long silence. After a while, she slowly lifted her head and said, "I am a slave..."
"I don’t mind!" Huayu Ting answered without hesitation.
"I am of the Demon Clan..." Fei Yu continued.
"I don’t care!" Huayu Ting declared resolutely.
Hearing his response, Fei Yu sniffled and suddenly grinned, her cheeks wet with glistening tear tracks. She reached out, playfully thumping Huayu Ting on the chest, tearfully calling out with a laugh: "Ating, Ating..."
Understanding her thoughts, Huayu Ting immediately hugged her tightly and kissed her fervently.
Then, in such a humble environment, they completed their wedding, without a celebrant or guests, only the loving newlyweds were present.
Fei Yu’s circumstances were tragic; not long after Huayu Ting left, her mother also died of illness, and she took over as the new slave, repeatedly exploited by the landlord.
Disease and malnutrition left her emaciated, coming close to death’s door many times. But in her heart, there was always an obsession - that Ating would come back for her.
She was fortunate that in the dimmest time of her life, she finally waited for the man she had dreamed of. He did not arrive on a cloud of many colors, but his entire being radiated with the glow of redemption. He had not forgotten the memories of their childhood and was willing to lower his status to save her.
But the story did not have a happy ending there. The dust of the era, if it falls on a mortal, becomes a mountain.
Neither Fei Yu nor Huayu Ting could forget that one was of the Demon Clan, the other a prized young member of the nobility. It seemed destiny would not allow such people to come together, and even if they did, they would face heavy pressures due to the prejudices of the world.
East Prosperity Nine States was a feudal society based on a cultivation system; any deviation from the cultivation tradition was considered heresy. Undoubtedly, such outrageous actions by Huayu Ting could lead to execution by family law.
This was also the source of Huayu Ting’s disdain for the Wu Family. As a cultivator, he disdained the cultivation system and felt a profound repugnance. Yet, it was this dissatisfaction that enabled him to firmly align with the Wen Family.
After getting married, the pair maintained a secret connection. Initially, Fei Yu lived in Huayu Ting’s room, but as soon as she became pregnant with their first child, Huayu Ting had to consider taking her somewhere else to secure their safety.
The first child of Huayu Ting and Fei Yu was a son named Huayu Yun. Huayu Ting never minded using the family surname to name their Demon Clan child.
Due to difficult circumstances, Fei Yu gave birth to their first child on her own, relying on her resilience. After the birth, she was utterly drained. Only then did Huayu Ting arrive, rather late.
"I’m late, sorry." Seeing Fei Yu’s wan and gaunt figure, Huayu Ting felt an inexplicable heartache. Not bothering to look at the child, he instead picked up his wife.
"I know it’s not convenient for you, I don’t blame you, I gave birth to the child myself, quite remarkable, right?" Fei Yu said with a weak chuckle.
"Why didn’t you wait for me..." Huayu Ting uttered regretfully.
"The child was eager to see Daddy, I couldn’t help it," said Fei Yu, "Go see the child, it looks like it’s a boy."
The two looked at the child. Fei Yu had learned some childbirth skills and at least knew how to clamp and tie off the umbilical cord. The child lay quietly in the bloodstained bedding, having ceased crying soon after birth.
"It’s like a dog’s kennel." Huayu Ting said with a hint of heartache at the sight of the blood everywhere.
"Your child is just a little animal." Fei Yu snuggled into Huayu Ting’s chest and said softly.
Because he was still young, the child’s ears had not yet grown, but were curled up like black fungus, and it would take a month for them to gradually unfurl.
"His little face is all wrinkled. Who knows if he’ll look like you in the future." Huayu Ting remarked with a sense of wonder.
"What’s wrong with looking like you? Why would he need to look like me?" Fei Yu asked, tilting her head.
"Because you’re cuter." Huayu Ting said with a smile.
"Hehe..." Fei Yu laughed softly, but her affection soon faded, "This child... he won’t be able to cultivate..."
"As long as his father can cultivate, that’s enough." Huayu Ting said, his chin resting on her ear.
"You are already a father now. You should be a qualified one and you are not allowed to bully the child." Fei Yu said, tapping his chest.
"Father, huh..." Huayu Ting, lost in thought, couldn’t help but recall the first time he met Fei Yu. It felt like it was just yesterday, but now, in the blink of an eye, he had become a father.
"How many children can we have?" Huayu Ting caressed the fluff on Fei Yu’s ears and asked affectionately.
"Next time, you give birth yourself!" Fei Yu playfully hit him and said shyly.
"Father would probably like him too, after all, it’s his own grandson..." Huayu Ting said, somewhat distracted.
"Patriarch..." Fei Yu opened her mouth, hesitating to continue.
Unlike Huayu Ting, who still harbored some illusions, Fei Yu knew that the elders of such noble families could never tolerate their kind, the Heretics.
During the days with Fei Yu, she bore Huayu Ting four children. Besides the first child, Huayu Yun, there were the second son, Huayu Yang, the third son, Huayu Luo, and the youngest daughter, Huayu Die.
All four children inherited the dominant traits of the Qingqiu Clan from their mother, and by bloodline, none could learn the traditional cultivation system of the East Continent. To put it in less than flattering terms, the distinguished genetics of the Huayu Family had reached a dead end with Huayu Ting’s generation.
Of course, this is a one-sided view. Even with the best of genetics, the aptitudes of offspring are still random, with no obvious correlation. It could be said that magical aptitude is almost completely independent of lineage.
This is said to be almost, because in the Western Continent, it has been proven that Elf genetics are significantly correlated with increased magic aptitude,
But Huayu Ting never worried about cutting off his own path. In fact, one might say that his affection for Fei Yu far exceeded his feelings for the family, which indirectly laid the groundwork for later tragedies.
Up to this point in the story, Huayu Ting gave the impression of being a sensitive man at heart, a loyal husband, and a competent father. His affection for Fei Yu was almost never in question.
But how did such a well-regarded man turn into what he is today?
The story must start with Huayu Ting’s and Fei Yu’s first child, Huayu Yun. He was their firstborn and a milestone of their love. In their hearts, Huayu Yun held a significant place.
However, all the ensuing misfortunes stemmed from this child, or more precisely, from his death.
The death of Huayu Yun was the first punishment this twisted society that pursues power dealt to Huayu Ting. Yet, Huayu Ting’s reaction exceeded everyone’s expectations, and he finally revealed the devil lying deep in his heart, hence triggering a series of subsequent tragedies.
Huayu Ting never loved his own parents, brothers, or sisters. To him, those people weren’t truly family. His real family consisted of Fei Yu, his wife, and their adorable children.
So when they were harmed, Huayu Ting was completely set off.
