Chapter 1589 - 1582: Mother and Child Reunion
Chapter 1589: Chapter 1582: Mother and Child Reunion
The two children did not understand Baiyue’s actions and were shivering with fear. Their hands and feet were bound by coarse hemp ropes, leaving marks on their delicate skin.
After moving them to a place where the two corpses could not be seen, Baiyue slowly released them and then carefully observed them.
These two children were indeed members of the Demon Clan, and of the Qingqiu Clan at that. They had the same color of fluffy big ears as Fei Yu, and their facial features also bore a resemblance to her.
The boy seemed to be slightly older, while the girl was much younger. Despite their tender age, their eyes were quite large, those eyes that should have been filled with curiosity were now staring at Baiyue with fear.
Seeing their terrified expressions, Baiyue softly chuckled and then took off her hood, revealing her own rabbit ears. Upon seeing her ears, the children were initially startled, but the fear in their eyes seemed to diminish somewhat.
"Your mother is Fei Yu, isn’t she?" Baiyue asked gently.
Hearing her question, the girl turned her head to look at her brother before hesitantly nodding and timidly biting her lip as she continued to gaze at her.
"I am here to protect you on behalf of your mother, and now I will take you home," Baiyue went on to explain.
"Brother, we can go home!" Upon hearing that Baiyue was sent by their mother, the two children’s faces lit up with joy, and the fear in their eyes instantly faded, with the sister even calling out in her childlike voice.
"What are your names?" Hearing the girl’s tender voice, Baiyue felt her heart heal and reached out to play with their ears, tilting her head and asking softly.
"My name is Luo," the little boy replied timidly.
"I’m Die!" the little girl answered boldly.
"Luo Die?" The pronunciation of these two words together reminded Baiyue of this beautiful term.
"Alright, don’t be afraid," Baiyue said, drawing a dagger from her waist, "I’ll untie you, and then we’ll go home together. Your mother is beside herself with worry."
"Mommy’s back?" Freed Xiao Die couldn’t help clapping her hands excitedly and asked.
"Wow, these two little devils really do resemble their mother," Hu Daoke approached and commented while looking at their ears.
"Wow!" Little Luo, newly freed, was startled by Hu Daoke and quickly hid beside Baiyue.
"Am I that scary?" Hu Daoke pointed at himself, laughing and crying at the same time.
"So tall, the big guy is so tall!" Xiao Die bounced around in front of Hu Daoke. Her height was in stark contrast to Hu Daoke’s. Even with her best jumps, she could barely reach the height of his knees.
"Eh, it’s always the girls who are sensible, no wonder they say fathers like daughters," Hu Daoke grinned, bending down to pick up Xiao Die.
"We should hurry back and hand the children over to their mother, Fei Yu is probably frantic by now," Baiyue said, standing up from the ground and taking little Luo’s hand.
"Let’s go," Hu Daoke nodded, his arm providing a steady perch for Xiao Die to sit upon, such weight being nothing to him.
The three adults and two children passed through the jungle they had come through and returned to the small courtyard. As soon as she saw the courtyard, Xiao Die couldn’t wait to get down from Hu Daoke and ran towards the yard while calling out loud, "Mommy, Mommy!"
Upon hearing her children’s voices, Fei Yu rushed out of the courtyard like mad. Seeing that both children were safe and sound, her eyes, once filled with despair, instantly lit up, and she stumbled towards them.
"Little Luo, Xiao Die, I’m so glad you’re alright, I’ve been so worried... It’s Mommy’s fault for leaving you at home..." Fei Yu hugged the children and sobbed.
"Mommy, Mommy, did you find brother?" Xiao Die, seemingly unaffected by Fei Yu’s emotions, tilted her head and asked curiously.
"Your father will find him; Mommy won’t go anywhere, I’ll stay right here to protect you... you can’t have any more accidents... otherwise... Mommy... can only repent with death..." Fei Yu let go of the children, crying out in remorse.
"Will Daddy come back, will brother come back?" Xiao Die showed a sad expression and asked with furrowed brows.
"They will come back, both will come back, your father is a great hero, he will bring your brother back..." Fei Yu said, seemingly reminded of something sad, and suddenly burst into tears.
"Mommy, don’t cry..." Little Luo tugged at Fei Yu’s sleeve, gently consoling her.
"Mom, are you sad about Brother Yun’s death?" Xiao Die’s eyes brimmed with tears, but she did not cry. Instead, she tilted her head and asked.
"I’m sorry, I have failed you all, failed A Yun, failed dad... I should have protected him... How could this happen, how could this..." Fei Yu lost control, and knelt on the ground, bending over, sobbing bitterly.
"It was supposed to be a reunion, why is she crying like this in front of the children?" Hu Daoke approached Tangmo, asking puzzledly.
"She’s probably thinking of the death of their first child, which was indeed a severe blow to her." Tangmo sniffled, blinking his eyes as he spoke.
"The child was killed by their grandfather?" Baiyue squinted her eyes and asked.
"It is just speculation, there is no direct evidence yet." Tangmo shook his head.
"Then, what would the child’s father think?" Baiyue fell into deep thought.
"Manor Lord, all you Manor Lords, thank you, thank you all, thank you for saving my child, I have no way to repay this great kindness..." Fei Yu turned towards the group, crying and kowtowing to them.
"Don’t be like that, we just lent a helping hand, no need to dwell on it," Tangmo quickly stepped forward to pull Fei Yu up, comforting her.
"Without you all, I really would have had to atone with my death," Fei Yu cried in self-blame.
"Stop with all this living and dying talk, is your life really so cheap," Tangmo frowned, a bit angrily said, "You need to live well, regardless of whether there’s anything wrong with the child, you need to live properly. If you die, what would your husband do?"
"I, I have wronged my husband..." Fei Yu said, ashamedly lowering her head.
"And then what? Is that what your husband wants, for you to die as an apology?" Tangmo asked irritably.
"I’m just a useless woman, if it wasn’t for my negligence, our child wouldn’t have..." Fei Yu said, covering her mouth again.
"Anyway, we helped you make up for this mistake this time, don’t commit such foolish acts again, got it?" Tangmo frowned and scolded.
"Understood, thank you, Manor Lord, for your patience..." Fei Yu sniffled.
Seeing her tear-stained face, Tangmo couldn’t help but shake his head and sigh. Then, as if talking to himself, he murmured, "I wonder how Cheng Ziang is doing now..."
Shifting focus back to Cheng Ziang, Ah Yang, Cheng Ziang, and Ah Si began walking along the road. Lacking any mode of transportation, they could only proceed on foot.
Ah Si walked beside Cheng Ziang, turning to look at him several times, but never mustering up the courage to speak. After a prolonged silence, she could no longer contain herself and decided to start a conversation.
"Speaking of which, when I saved you yesterday, I sensed a powerful aura from you, was that your aura?" Ah Si asked curiously.
"Aura, really?" Cheng Ziang was taken aback and asked.
"Of course, it was like a... keep-away kind of pressure." Ah Si blinked as she explained.
"It’s probably Liseya..." Cheng Ziang muttered, looking down.
"What?" Ah Si tilted her head and asked.
"Nothing, you must be mistaken, I don’t have any kind of aura." Cheng Ziang shrugged.
"No? Then it seems my senses were off," Ah Si thought for a moment, then smiled again, "I thought you were some unparalleled expert; turns out you are just an ordinary person after all."
"Unparalleled experts have an aura?" Cheng Ziang asked, puzzled.
"Of course, like..." Ah Si began to say, deliberately glancing at Cheng Ziang, "like Nascent Souls."
"You know about Nascent Souls?" Cheng Ziang squinted, asking nonchalantly.
"Such a thing, from 80-year-old seniors to 3 or 4-year-old kids, who doesn’t know about it?" Ah Si raised her eyebrows, stating matter-of-factly.
