Chapter 1583: Chapter 1576: Strengthening Presence
Just when the three of them had fallen deep into slumber, a gentle light suddenly flickered in the darkness, and Liseya appeared out of nowhere in mid-air. Although there was a soft glow above her head, it failed to illuminate the surroundings.
If Ah Si or Ah Yang were to open their eyes at this moment, they would probably be scared into having a heart attack by the scene before them. Not to mention them, even if Cheng Ziang woke up, he would probably be quite startled.
Liseya floated in mid-air, looking at Cheng Ziang, then at Ah Si, with a thoughtful expression on her face. After drifting around a bit more, her figure completely dissipated, turning into tiny sparks in the darkness, twinkling before fading into silence.
Cheng Ziang, lost in his sleep, had a strange dream. In a daze, he arrived at a courtyard in the woods. It was bizarre enough for a courtyard to suddenly appear deep in the mountains, but he seemed not to care, or rather, he didn’t think in that direction at all.
He confidently pushed open the large gate of the courtyard, and a woman immediately came forward to greet him, smiling radiantly and saying, "My husband, you’re back."
"Hmm..." Cheng Ziang blinked, looking at the woman who resembled Ah Si but called him husband, and absentmindedly nodded.
"It’s good that you’re back, the child has been missing you, constantly talking about you," Ah Si said with a smile.
Following her words, from a distance came the delighted cheers of a boy: "Dad, you’re back, I’ve missed you so much."
"Yes, I’m back..." Cheng Ziang was still expressionless, watching Ah Yang bounce over jubilantly towards him; he then squatted down to pick him up.
He touched the fluffy fox ears atop Ah Yang’s head, a scene so strange in any context, yet he didn’t notice at all.
"Have I... been gone for long?" Cheng Ziang’s mind seemed somewhat foggy, and it took him a long while to ask cautiously.
"Of course..." Ah Si said naturally, with a hint of gloom on her face.
"Eh..." Cheng Ziang furrowed his brow, finally sensing that something was amiss. If they were husband and wife, why had he no memories of living together with her?
"Look at you, have you forgotten my name again?" Ah Si stared at Cheng Ziang, asking chidingly.
"No, I haven’t..." Cheng Ziang blinked, avoiding eye contact as he spoke.
"Listen carefully, my name is Ah Si, you must remember it," Ah Si said.
"I remember now, Ah Si..." Cheng Ziang nodded.
Hearing his response, Ah Si’s smile returned. Then, she suddenly turned and walked away without looking back. Cheng Ziang followed her instinctively but as he turned a corner, the scene before him changed completely, turning into a bustling street.
Just a few steps from the mountain courtyard to a crowded street, very normal, yes, very normal. That’s how Cheng Ziang reassured himself.
He looked up, and Ah Si appeared before him again. This time, she wore the same outfit she had on when they first met, standing there quietly, smiling at him.
"Ah... Ah Si..." Cheng Ziang opened his mouth, his slow mind finally recalling this name.
"Yes," Ah Si responded to his call, nodding lightly with a knowing smile.
"Where is this?" Cheng Ziang looked around, asking with a puzzled expression.
"This is Lingyun Government, the place where we first met," Ah Si replied with a smile.
"Our first meeting, our first meeting?" Cheng Ziang lowered his head, trying hard to recall this memory.
"We’re already married, we even have a child. Why, why can’t I remember any memories of being with her? Is all this just an illusion? Ah Si... Lingyun Government..."
Suddenly, a spark of inspiration flashed through his mind, as if he had realized something.
"Right, Lingyun Government, that woman... Ah, who is it, I’ve remembered something, what did she do to me?"
Such bizarre clues ran through Cheng Ziang’s entire dream. He spent almost the whole night pondering over this matter, so much so that when he opened his eyes and woke up, his head was still groggy.
"Is it already daylight?" Cheng Ziang took a deep breath; the morning air felt very crisp and cool.
He propped himself up, and beside him Ah Yang was curled up in deep sleep, his fluffy fox ears twitching from time to time, but Ah Si had already disappeared without a trace.
"Was it just the two of us last night?" Cheng Ziang stared at Ah Yang, his weary brain struggling to recall the answer to this question.
Just then, the shabby room door creaked open, and Ah Si walked in carrying a wooden basin. Seeing him awake, she said joyfully, "Ah, you’re awake already?"
"Hmm, you’re up quite early," Cheng Ziang said indifferently.
But to his surprise, what he considered a casual greeting struck Ah Si like a bolt from the blue. Her body tensed up immediately, and the wooden basin slipped from her fingers, spilling the clear water all over the floor.
"Hey, are you alright?" Cheng Ziang asked with concern.
"You...you recognize me?" Ah Si asked, dumbfounded.
"Of course, weren’t you the one who saved me yesterday?" Cheng Ziang nodded affirmatively, as if it were matter-of-fact.
Ah Si’s face lit up with joy, her body trembling, and her breathing growing heavy. She seemed to remember something, and subconsciously reached towards her waist, the bell on her waist ornament jingling crisply as she moved.
"I didn’t make a sound just now... He..." Ah Si stood there, murmuring in surprise and delight.
"What’s wrong?" Cheng Ziang asked, puzzled.
"No, nothing," Ah Si looked back at him, forcing a smile with a wave of her hand, "No, nothing. Well... do you remember the past?"
"The past, what about it?" Cheng Ziang asked uncomprehendingly.
Perhaps it was the influence of his dreams, Cheng Ziang didn’t feel that not being able to remember the past was a bad thing; instead, it seemed perfectly normal to him.
"It seems, it seems I really can’t hide it from you..." Ah Si lowered her head, her expression showing bashfulness.
"What are you talking about?" Cheng Ziang asked.
"Actually, I..." Ah Si started to say with her head bowed, but then she suddenly became more cautious and shut her mouth without revealing her thoughts.
If she remembered correctly, Cheng Ziang was not in the Nascent Soul Realm, but was accompanied by a great deity who was. In other words, it wasn’t Cheng Ziang who remembered her, but that deity who reminded Cheng Ziang of her.
"Are you sure you’re okay? You look a bit pale," Cheng Ziang asked with concern.
"No, it’s nothing, nothing at all," Ah Si waved her hands, then crouched to pick up the basin, and with her head lowered said, "I’ll go fetch more water, stay right here and don’t move."
With every step she took, the bell on her waist jingled crisply. Cheng Ziang squinted at her retreating figure and the swaying bell, with no recollection of it whatsoever in his mind.
But he clearly remembered this person, the name Ah Si. Because this problem had been circling repeatedly in his dreams, it left a deep impression on him.
"Ah Si..." Cheng Ziang murmured the name with his head lowered.
At that moment, he noticed Ah Yang, who was sleeping soundly. He slept so sweetly, his fluffy ears twitching. Cheng Ziang stared at him for a while then suddenly frowned and blurted out nonsensically, "How can a human produce a child of the Demon Clan."
Cheng Ziang got out of bed and went outside, taking the basin of clean water from Ah Si to freshen up, feeling much more alert. His previously cluttered thoughts had become more ordered, yet he still couldn’t recall certain things. It was as if there were an area in his mind shrouded in dense fog, impenetrable no matter what.
"You sure you’re okay? You seem a bit off," Ah Si said, peering at him with concerned eyes before they set off.
"I’m fine, let’s hurry and rendezvous with my companions and help this little guy find his family," Cheng Ziang said, shaking his head vigorously and checking his weapons before speaking.
"Alright then, let’s go. I’ll take you to the place where we met yesterday," Ah Si nodded and said.
Leading Ah Yang by the hand, Cheng Ziang and Ah Si made their way through the narrow path to the broad avenue covered with thick
