Chapter 1573: Chapter 1566: Farewell to the Beloved
Not just the riders, their horses were also unable to escape the disaster, all neighing before falling to the ground. The attack lasted less than ten seconds, but the outcome was clear, all of the riders lay dead without exception. The air was filled with the smell of burnt protein, and the dead riders’ noses and mouths were emitting blue smoke.
However, probably out of fear from seeing their own kind killed, the horses drawing the carriage became frightened and started to sprint forward uncontrollably, rolling over several corpses. The jolts and shakes of the carriage threw Cheng Ziang off, and he tumbled several times on the ground.
Liseya was clearly encountering such a problem for the first time and didn’t know what to do. If she took out these horses, then the carriage would become unusable.
But despite that, she was still prepared to attack the horses to stop the carriage. At this critical moment, Liseya heard Fulajie’er’s call.
"Hey, you take care of Cheng Ziang, I’ll handle them, and we’ll meet up later!" Fulajie’er shouted to Liseya.
Although she knew there was another demigod nearby, Fulajie’er and Liseya hadn’t had much contact, this was probably their second or third time meeting since the tomb battle.
But despite being unfamiliar with Fulajie’er, Liseya followed her suggestion, not stopping the carriage, but instead letting it go and flying back to Cheng Ziang’s side, watching over him with concern. After confirming he was not in serious trouble, Liseya’s figure gradually dissipated.
The ground was covered with a thick layer of dead leaves, allowing Cheng Ziang to tumble several times without harm. He was still unconscious from the strange incense, and it took a long time for him to wake up.
Several hours passed, and it was the afternoon by the time Cheng Ziang laid there quietly sleeping on the soft bed of dead leaves.
At that moment, a petite figure appeared at the edge of the road from within the woods. The girl tiptoed out of the bushes, and then slowly approached the unconscious Cheng Ziang.
Just as she got about three meters away from Cheng Ziang, Liseya appeared out of nowhere, startling the girl to the point where she knelt on the spot, trembling and waving her hands, saying, "I, I, I just wanted to see if you were alright, I mean no harm, you should still remember me, right..."
Apparently mistaking Liseya for Cheng Ziang’s Nascent Soul, the girl thought her identity had been exposed.
But strangely, Liseya seemed very lenient towards the girl in front of her, turning in place after hearing her answer. Just as she had appeared suddenly, her figure just as quickly faded away, leaving no trace.
The girl knelt on the ground, shrinking her neck and looking around. After making sure Liseya was nowhere to be seen, she finally breathed a sigh of relief and slowly straightened up, carefully crawling towards Cheng Ziang.
When Cheng Ziang woke up, it was already evening. He clutched his head and slowly got up from the ground, this time noticing that his left arm had been scorched hot by fire.
To his left, a campfire was burning. He was lying there for so long that even his clothes were slightly singed.
He gathered his thoughts, focusing his confused gaze. Then he heard the sound of a bell, and only then did he notice a girl squatting by the fire, roasting some unknown meat.
Seeing the girl, Cheng Ziang felt a shock, instinctively checking his mask. Only after confirming it was in place did he relax.
"Ah, you’re awake?" The girl, noticing the movement turned around, and called out in surprise.
Then, she thoughtfully handed him a gourd, saying, "Thirsty, right? Here’s some liquor to quench your thirst."
"Who are you?" Cheng Ziang did not immediately take the gourd, but instead asked with a wary frown.
"You don’t recognize me?" The girl seemed surprised by the question.
"Should I?" Cheng Ziang asked, puzzled.
"Eh, then just now you..." The girl was even more astonished.
"What happened just now?" Cheng Ziang inquired.
"Uh, no, nothing, let me introduce myself. My name is Ah Si." The girl hesitated for a moment, then smiled broadly, squinting her eyes as she spoke.
"Ah Si..." Cheng Ziang murmured the name, but no matter what, he couldn’t recall any memories related to it.
"Have you heard this name before?" Ah Si cocked her head, asking with some expectation.
"No," Cheng Ziang shook his head.
"Is that so..." Ah Si seemed somewhat disappointed by his answer, but she quickly flashed a smile again, "Here, have some liquor."
"Where am I?" Cheng Ziang took the gourd without his guard up, still furrowing his brow as he asked.
"Oh, I saw you lying on the road, so I brought you here, fearing that the passing carriages might run you over," Ah Si explained.
"I was lying on the road?" Cheng Ziang asked.
"Yes, why were you lying there?" Ah Si tilted her head and asked.
"Damn, I must have fallen off the carriage. That bastard used something on me that knocked everyone in the carriage out," Cheng Ziang muttered, frowning.
"Hmm, what are you talking about?" Ah Si tilted her head, asking curiously.
"Nothing, nothing, thank you," Cheng Ziang shook his head, uncorked his gourd, then turned away from Ah Si, lifted his mask and took several sips of alcohol.
It tasted somewhat like sugared water - not entirely water, as it still retained a faint aroma of alcohol, with a sweet aftertaste upon drinking it.
For some reason, Cheng Ziang felt that the girl in front of him was trustworthy enough that he could drink what she offered without any defenses.
After quenching his throat with the alcohol, Cheng Ziang finally took a deep breath, and the previously muddled thoughts in his head began to clear up.
"Damn, if I fell down, then my belongings..." Cheng Ziang startled, then quickly started patting himself down.
"Are you looking for this?" Ah Si extended a knife to him just as he was frantically searching.
"Good, good, thank you," Cheng Ziang took the knife, examined it after pulling it out, and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Because it was custom-made by the headquarters, his name, the character Ziang, was carved directly on the blade. By contrast, Feng’s knife was engraved with the character Feng. Hence, to identify whose knife it was, one simply needed to look at the inscription on the blade.
"Oh, right, there’s also this. I don’t know if you dropped it," Ah Si said, pulling a Yuanzi pistol from her bosom, which was the very pistol Cheng Ziang had lost.
"How did I even drop the gun?" Cheng Ziang was stunned for a moment, quickly reaching to check his holster and confirming it was indeed empty.
"Thank you, thank you," Cheng Ziang took the pistol, repeatedly expressing his gratitude.
"No need to thank me, now you should be able to forgive me," Ah Si shook her head, showing a sincere smile.
"Ah, what did you say?" Cheng Ziang did not catch what she said and asked blankly.
"No, nothing," Ah Si suddenly shook her head, blinked and said, "You must be hungry, I have some roasted meat here, have some."
"What do you do?" Cheng Ziang took the roasted meat she offered and couldn’t help but ask curiously.
"Oh, I’m the daughter of a hunter in the mountains. My father went out to hunt, leaving me to guard the camp," Ah Si explained.
"When you rescued me, did you see anything else, like?" Cheng Ziang tried to give an example, but his mind started to get foggy again.
"I saw a lot of bodies on the road. I thought... you were in a feud... It seems you might have been caught up in it..." Ah Si said, blinking.
"Aren’t you scared, or should I say, don’t you find it strange?" Cheng Ziang asked, somewhat astonished.
"No, I’m not scared or surprised," Ah Si said, revealing a wry smile, "Fights among clans and Sects are common. Once you get used to it, it’s no longer surprising."
"Kyushu is really chaotic..." Cheng Ziang remarked, then bit into the roasted meat.
"By the way, I still don’t know your name," Ah Si neatly knelt in front of Cheng Ziang and asked earnestly.
"I, I am called Azure Dragon..." Cheng Ziang blinked, paused for a while before saying.
"Azure Dragon?" Ah Si tilted her head, showing a smile.
"What’s up, is something wrong?" Cheng Ziang asked.
"That’s not your real name, is it?" Ah Si asked with a smile.
