Otherworld Advance Team
Chapter 1554 - 1547: A Sense of Holiness

Chapter 1554: Chapter 1547: A Sense of Holiness

"I have long heard of the distinguished reputations of the Manor Lords; meeting you today, indeed, your fame is well-deserved," Luzun Hong respectfully said.

"We are merely ordinary people; may I ask how the Taifu learned of our names?" Cheng Ziang asked curiously.

"Your prestigious reputation has already spread across Fengyu, although I have long resided in Hua State, I have also heard slightly of it," Luzun Hong replied.

"A prestigious reputation, really?" Cheng Ziang muttered with narrowed eyes, careful not to let Luzun Hong hear.

He always felt that something was off because the Advance Team only resolved some conflicts between the Wuyun Sect and the locals in Fengyu and had not done any great deeds. Where did this talk of their reputation spreading throughout Fengyu come from?

The only possibility that these people could know their identities was that the Wuyun Sect had sent someone to notify them in advance, which is why they were so familiar with their identities.

If this logic were to hold, it would seem to confirm Cheng Ziang’s previous speculation that the Wuyun Sect was more than just a Sect for cultivation; it was likely an intelligence agency stationed in Fengyu.

If everything matched up, it meant that his former feeling was correct. Since the moment the Advance Team entered Fengyu, they had been under surveillance, otherwise, these people would not have captured their traces so easily.

However, Cheng Ziang didn’t understand what these people’s intentions were in treating the Advance Team like this. Could it really be just to offer hospitality as the host?

"Please allow us to host you at our inn, where the upper rooms have been prepared," Luzun Hong continued, with hands clasped in respect.

"Taifu is too polite. What merits do we have to deserve Taifu’s personal reception and to be lodged in the upper rooms?" Cheng Ziang courteously said.

"Please do not hesitate; this is but a small token of my regard. I hope you will stay in Lingyun Government for a few more days to accept my gesture of goodwill," Luzun Hong reciprocated.

As he spoke, his gaze shifted towards the carriage and after a moment of hesitation, he turned to Cheng Ziang, saying, "I have long revered the Saint’s reputation. Might I have the honor of meeting the Saint today? It is a humble wish of mine."

"The Taifu should understand that the Saint does not like to make public appearances," Cheng Ziang said, scanning the surroundings.

"Understood, I understand," Luzun Hong nodded and then turned and waved his hand, shouting to his subordinates, "All of you, disperse."

At Luzun Hong’s command, the surrounding clerks and attendants scattered, leaving only him and Xihe. Of course, Xihe couldn’t leave, being the military Chief of Lingyun Province; he was no ordinary person.

"Thank you, Taifu. I will report to the Saint," Cheng Ziang said clasping his hands, then turned and walked towards the carriage, calling for Luo’er.

Their conversation was held in Chinese, a language from the Otherworld, which Luzun Hong and Xihe could hardly hope to understand.

After a pretense of discussion, Cheng Ziang stood beside the carriage. Soon, the carriage door opened, and a graceful figure leisurely stepped out. Luzun Hong and Xihe felt a surge of excitement and were about to greet the figure, only to realize the newcomer was a young girl.

The first to emerge was certainly Tangmo, being the great Mage immediately before the Saint. She held a Magic Wand, walking out expressionlessly, glancing at Luzun Hong and Xihe with a haughty look as if afraid of soiling her eyes, she quickly averted her gaze and stood to one side, half-closing her eyes in wait.

Before long, another figure emerged from the carriage; it was Luo’er, whom Cheng Ziang and the others referred to as the Saint. He was clad in a holy pure white robe with golden trimmings visible on it.

He appeared to be a man, yet his skin was even whiter than a woman’s, and he wore a strange hat, also pure white in color. What surprised Luzun Hong and Xihe the most were his half-closed eyes.

Peering through long eyelashes, they could barely glimpse the lush lashes beneath which were a pair of enviable dark green irises.

The saint had thin lips, tinted with cherry red, creating a luscious contrast against his pathologically pale skin, which unavoidably drew one’s gaze to those delicate and enticing lips.

Luo’er poked his head out as such, and the moment he fully emerged from the carriage, whether it was an illusion or not, Luzun Hong and Xihe inexplicably felt as if a warm, gentle light was emanating from within the carriage, seemingly tracing his path.

Upon seeing Luo’er exit the carriage, Cheng Ziang and the others exchanged glances before, as if by an unspoken agreement, they all half knelt. According to the rules of role-playing, aside from the great Mage, everyone must kneel upon seeing the saint.

"We greet the saint!" Not only did the four kneel, but they also exclaimed in unison.

The Advance Team had meticulously designed this complex procedure with the aim of sanctifying Luo’er as much as possible, to convince people wholeheartedly of his identity as a saint.

In achieving such an effect, Luo’er was an excellent choice because his very own appearance was already saint-like. As a mixed-blood of the Elf Race, Luo’er possessed a refined beauty that perfectly met human aesthetic standards; he merely had to stand there, saying nothing, doing nothing, for his aura to cascade down like a waterfall.

Furthermore, gender ambiguity was an ideal way to craft a sense of sanctity. Luo’er was a man, yet whether it was his appearance, temperament, or his gestures, they all leaned closer to feminine, causing those who saw him to mistake his gender.

In truth, Luo’er’s skin had always been very white, unable to tan. However, his skin had indeed become absurdly pale now, bordering on the appearance of albinism.

The reason for this was solely because he wanted to play the role of a saint convincingly, and so he had not been exposed to the sun for a month, leading his skin to become paler and paler, now almost ghastly white.

However, his efforts were indeed effective. With his pallid skin, Luo’er, somewhat frail, stood before Luzun Hong and Xihe. That inexplicable sense of oppression made both men’s legs weaken, nearly driving them to their knees.

"Thank you both for your grand assistance. I extend my gratitude here," Luo’er said, his tender lips moving slowly in speech.

He tried his best to control the tone of his voice, making it softer, more feminine, to create a sense of gender misalignment.

"It is our duty..." Unexpectedly, Luzun Hong and Xihe could not withstand Luo’er’s overpowering presence and knelt down one after another. Unlike the single-knee kneel of the four, these two knelt on both knees, hands placed on the ground with their bodies bent forward.

"If the saint wouldn’t mind, please stay for a few more days, as a testament to this official’s sincerity," Luzun Hong said from his prostrated position. Whether it was heartfelt or mere politeness, Cheng Ziang could hear the trembling in his voice.

"Then, I shall thank the Manor Lord in advance. May the blessing of the God of Light be with you," Luo’er said slowly.

After finishing, Luo’er turned and went back into the carriage, followed closely by Tangmo, who glanced at the two before entering the carriage and closed the door.

Seeing the carriage door close again, Cheng Ziang and the others slowly stood up. Hu Daoke let out a sigh, and deliberately spoke with lingering fear, "The saint was in a good mood today; it really almost scared me to death."

"Can saints get angry too?" Xihe slowly got up from the ground, asking in astonishment.

"Of course, the saint has always been quick-tempered, and we all suffer whenever he’s angry," Hu Daoke said, patting his chest deliberately to show a look of fear.

"Such a person, with such overwhelming presence, would be truly terrifying if angered..." Xihe’s eyes widened as he uttered a fear-laden voice.

"I kindly implore all the Manor Lords to stay for a while longer at our humble residence. This official will make sure to serve you well, and... and the saint too," Luzun Hong also spoke with lingering fear.

"Thank you, Manor Lord, but the saint’s travel must ensure there are no outsiders. May I inquire if both Manor Lords..." Cheng Ziang hesitated.

"Oh, I will have all the people in the guesthouse leave right away, and re-arrange after the saint has settled in. The Manor Lord need not worry," Luzun Hong reassured with a clasped hand gesture.
