Chapter 1546: Chapter 1539: Eyes Everywhere

"Manor Lord..." The Wuyun Sect disciple folded his fists, about to say something, but was interrupted by Cheng Ziang waving his hand.

"Enough, enough, don’t mention it, we appreciate the help from the Wuyun Sect," Cheng Ziang hurriedly said.

He was well aware of why the Wuyun Sect appeared here—it was somewhat akin to a dog marking its territory with urine. The Wuyun Sect obviously wanted to prove something to the townspeople: that the entire delegation had sided with the Wuyun Sect.

If it were any other time, he would definitely disagree with such actions, but since they were leaving tomorrow, it didn’t matter if they left behind a bad reputation in town.

After speaking, Cheng Ziang squeezed through the crowded crowd and pursued the direction in which that person had fled. Although the crowd was dense, they consciously cleared a path for him just as he reached them.

"Feng, did you notice that person?" Cheng Ziang turned his head and asked.

"Hmm," Feng nodded affirmatively.

"Intercept him!" Cheng Ziang ordered, then he, too, quickened his pace.

Upon receiving the order, Feng leaped into the air, stepping over the tiles of the houses along the street, chasing in the direction of the fleeing figure. She didn’t need to see the person—locking onto their aura was enough.

Cheng Ziang didn’t possess Feng’s jumping power, nor did he want to use the Mobility device, so he simply sped up and ran, following Feng’s silhouette.

Fortunately, the people behind, including the disciples of the Wuyun Sect, did not follow. After running for over ten minutes, turning around several corners, and through a dozen alleys, Cheng Ziang finally cornered the person in a secluded spot.

This was a young man with a hood, who was slightly hunched over outside, with a subservient demeanor. Trapped by Feng and Cheng Ziang, he put on a calm front, but his legs trembled uncontrollably.

"Why are you running?" Cheng Ziang slowly walked up to him and asked as he approached.

"May I ask what the two Manor Lords intend?" the man asked with feigned composure, his voice indeed that of a young man, albeit soft and feminine.

"Have we met somewhere before?" Cheng Ziang stared at the man’s head, which was half-concealed by the hood, squinting as he asked.

"Manor Lord jests. I have never met the Manor Lord; how could we have seen each other?" the man said with a forced laugh.

"For instance, the Wuyun Sect?" Cheng Ziang looked up and mentioned a place.

On hearing the name, Cheng Ziang noticed the man noticeably shudder, and although he quickly regained his composure, that moment of panic was keenly captured by Cheng Ziang.

The man didn’t reply but took the initiative to remove his hood, revealing his fluffy pointed ears, characteristic of the Qingqiu Clan’s fox-like lineage. The young man in front of him was actually from the Demon Clan.

"Manor Lord might be mistaken. The Wuyun Sect is not a place that someone like me could go to," said the Demon Clan person, still bowing his head in a submissive posture, even after removing his hood.

"Perhaps I really misunderstood," Cheng Ziang said, showing an embarrassed expression and scratching his head.

Then, he exchanged a glance with Feng. She was silent for a while, then looked at him and nodded firmly.

"If, if there’s nothing else, may I please take my leave first?" the man stuttered, attempting to walk past Cheng Ziang.

Suddenly, he was grabbed by the collar by Cheng Ziang and thrown forcefully against the wall. Under his frightened gaze, Cheng Ziang drew his long knife from his waist with a clang, inserting it sideways into the wall beside the man’s neck, the sharp blade resting against his throat.

For Kedal metal blades, such penetration was as easy as flipping a hand, the blade quickly sank in by half. Cheng Ziang released the knife and stepped back twice, then crossed his arms and watched him with a smile.

Although his expression was obscured by a mask, which prevented the Demon Clan person from seeing his face, he could still feel the chill emanating from Cheng Ziang’s eyes.

Just now, Cheng Ziang had signaled Feng with his eyes to ask if she remembered this fellow. Feng had a unique ability to remember the aura of anyone she had focused on. So she affirmed with a nod, believing she had seen this guy before.

Cheng Ziang always liked to bring Feng along on his tasks for this reason, as she could always remember some of the details he cared about. Like this individual now; he only had to take a few extra glances at the person, and Feng immediately memorized his aura.

Cheng Ziang never doubted Feng’s judgement, so naturally, he was convinced that the person in front of them was indeed the one they had encountered at the Wuyun Sect.

"I’ll ask you one more time, did we meet at the Wuyun Sect this morning?" Cheng Ziang leaned forward as he asked.

"Manor Lord jests..." The Demon Clan person had uttered just a few words when Cheng Ziang interrupted him.

"Stop beating around the bush. Are you really going to force me to drink the forfeit wine because you won’t drink the toast?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"I, I don’t know anything..." Not sure if it was because of Cheng Ziang’s imposing pressure, but this member of the Demon Clan finally began to get nervous.

"Relax, we’re just asking. We have no intention of targeting the Wuyun Sect, nor will we turn you in. After all, we are also friends with Sect Master Dongliang Yu, aren’t we?" Cheng Ziang said unhurriedly.

Cheng Ziang’s words eased the man’s concerns, and he lowered his head in silence for a while before slowly looking up and asking cautiously, "Manor Lord... are these words true?"

"Indeed," Cheng Ziang nodded and said, "Once I’ve said something, I never go back on my word."

After gathering his thoughts once more, the Demon Clan member finally raised his head, nodded, and said, "To answer the Manor Lord, I did indeed go to the Wuyun Sect this morning..."

"What did you go to the Wuyun Sect for?" Cheng Ziang pressed on while the iron was hot.

"To report as usual." The demon answered honestly.

"To report as usual?" Cheng Ziang was taken aback momentarily.

"We... are responsible for gathering intelligence in town. Any small disturbance must be immediately reported, and even without any incidents, we still have to report regularly. That’s the ’usual reporting,’" the demon replied.

"So, what you’re saying is that you’re the Wuyun Sect’s spy placed in Bianzhen Town, right?" Cheng Ziang said as he sized up the man, conceding internally that planting a member of the Demon Clan in their own towns was quite a clever idea.

"Yes..." the demon nodded.

"So, as soon as we entered the town, you reported our movements to the Wuyun Sect?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"This..." The demon lowered his head, hesitant.

"You needn’t worry, as I’ve said, we are not enemies with the Wuyun Sect." Cheng Ziang reassured, waving his hand as he understood the man’s concerns.

"Yes, as soon as Manor Lord and your group entered the town, we swiftly reported your arrival to the Sect," the demon replied, nodding.

"An intelligence network, huh?" Cheng Ziang muttered to himself before suddenly asking, "How many people like you are there, and in which towns are they distributed?"

"Manor Lord, please don’t make it difficult for me..." the demon said with an expression of difficulty.

"Alright, then let me ask you, Bianzhen Town isn’t the only place where you’ve got a spy in place, right?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"Yes." The demon nodded.

"That person who just came to help was sent by you, right?" Cheng Ziang continued to inquire.

"Yes, the Sect Master instructed us to treat all of you well and to provide assistance with any trouble you might encounter," the demon answered, nodding again.

"Your Sect Master is quite thoughtful," Cheng Ziang said with a laugh.

"Manor Lord flatters us..." the demon said, sounding somewhat guilty.

"Then let me ask you another question, you’re not one of the outer disciples from the Wuyun Sect, right?" Cheng Ziang continued questioning.

"People like me, how could we dare to aspire to join the Sect..." the demon said, his head lowered in a dejected manner.

"Are there many members of the Demon Clan like you who work for the Wuyun Sect?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"Yes..." the demon responded without hesitation, as if it was an instinctual reaction.

"Then what do you think about how Sect Master Dongliang Yu treats you?" Cheng Ziang asked tentatively.

He asked this because he noticed that these members of the Demon Clan could actually betray their own people to help the Wuyun Sect monitor the Demons. Such behavior could only mean the Wuyun Sect must be treating them well; otherwise, it wouldn’t be enough to make them betray their own people and willingly work for the Wuyun
