Chapter 1528 - 1521: Who is Right and Who is Wrong
Chapter 1528: Chapter 1521: Who is Right and Who is Wrong
Although they had just experienced a crisis, the four of them were not too tense, and after having Fulajie’er continue to guard, they all went back to sleep. After all, during their adventures, they had seen many such crises and had naturally grown accustomed to strange occurrences, even if there were dead bodies scattered outside the house, they could still sleep peacefully.
The next morning, when Cheng Ziang had just woken up, he heard a noisy clamor outside the house. After a quick wash, he put on his mask and left the room, stepping outside into the courtyard.
As expected, a large crowd had gathered outside the courtyard, surrounding and discussing several bodies that had already been tidied up. The town mayor, seeing Cheng Ziang’s arrival, stepped forward to greet him.
"Do you all have a death wish," Cheng Ziang said with a slight frown, his tone icy cold, "The Saint just said yesterday that no one was allowed to disturb him, yet today you come to watch as if it’s a fair, aren’t you afraid of the Saint’s punishment?"
"Manor Lord, calm down, please calm down," hearing his warning, the town mayor immediately broke into a cold sweat, hurriedly turned around and waved his hand, signaling his subordinates to disperse the crowd.
After most people had been driven away, he turned back with a relieved expression and obsequiously said, "Did the Manor Lord have a peaceful night last night?"
"Isn’t that a rhetorical question?" Cheng Ziang said, his sharp gaze fixedly staring at the town mayor, causing him to break out into a cold sweat again.
"Is this to your satisfaction, Manor Lord?" The town mayor, suppressing his guilt, asked with a forced smile.
"Last night, some petty thieves came to set fires, and they were punished by the gods," Cheng Ziang took his gaze off the mayor and looked at the bodies as he spoke.
"Damn it, it really should be those people from the Wuyun Sect!" the town mayor exclaimed angrily as well.
"They were from the Wuyun Sect?" Cheng Ziang said, a slight smile on his face, though it was hidden by the mask. His teasing gaze fixed on the town mayor, making him feel uneasy.
"Of course, only they would hold such a grudge against the Saint," the town mayor said righteously.
"The mayor should know about this matter, right?" Cheng Ziang asked languidly.
"What do you mean, Manor Lord, what are you implying?" Hearing the implications in Cheng Ziang’s words, the town mayor sucked in a breath of cool air and forcibly calmed himself as he asked.
"Hehe," Cheng Ziang did not answer right away, but instead, gently slapped the town mayor’s shoulder, directing his gaze to the bodies covered by mats and then asked, "Mayor, you have counted the bodies, right? Doesn’t it feel like one or two are missing?"
Cheng Ziang’s words struck the town mayor like a thunderclap, piercing right through him. His eyes widened, his body began to tremble, his legs grew weak, and his body slowly collapsed to the ground.
"Mayor," Cheng Ziang firmly held the mayor, preventing him from collapsing, and then whispered in his ear, "If the Wuyun Sect has no objections, I hope this matter can be concluded quickly. The Saint is already very unhappy. You saw the miracle last night, it’s not to be taken lightly, understand?"
"Understood... understood..." hearing his words, and for some reason, the town mayor felt a sense of relief from deep within, as if he had escaped from the Ghost Gate and quickly kept nodding.
"Keep your little schemes to yourself. Opposing the Saint is opposing Heaven’s Will, it’s going against the natural order. Mayor, as a mortal, be sure not to do anything foolish," Cheng Ziang continued in a deep tone by his ear.
This was actually a subtle warning to the mayor, letting him know that they were aware of his schemes, advising him not to act rashly, lest he offend the Saint and be unable to escape the consequences.
"Dispose of the bodies, then go back and make arrangements. The Saint really dislikes noisy environments, this is already the second time. The Saint’s patience is really good, don’t you think?" Cheng Ziang maintained his gentle yet deadly tone.
"Yes, yes, we absolutely won’t disturb the Saint again," the town mayor said tremulously, nodding his head.
"Then, please, Mayor, hurry up and bring the food over, the saints are going to eat." Cheng Ziang chuckled, but his tone sounded unusually cautious.
After issuing a slight warning, Cheng Ziang watched the Mayor and his people flee in embarrassment, and he couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief, while also falling into deep thought.
Now, there probably wouldn’t be any more trouble from the Mayor’s side, but his only concern was still the Wuyun Sect. As analyzed before, such an allocation scheme caused the most damage to the interests of the Wuyun Sect, not the people of Bianzhen Town.
These townspeople are simply stingy, not wanting to hand over a single penny, even as obligatory taxes, they repeatedly refuse, rather spending money to hire someone to deal with the Wuyun Sect instead of properly negotiating with them.
But on the other hand, without the intervention of the Advance Team, the power balance between Bianzhen Town and the Wuyun Sect couldn’t really be compared. However, now that the Advance Team had intervened, both parties should have properly negotiated; instead, Bianzhen Town started to act out, revealing their greedy nature.
Upon entering Fengyu, the Advance Team always adhered to causing less trouble and expanding their influence, but it seems things are contrary to their wishes now, as there are always those ignorant of their good fortune who don’t understand their own weaknesses until they are beaten.
Since entering the Otherworld, the Advance Team has indeed taken many lives. Although those who died were mainly their enemies, Luo’er began to reflect on this behavior. He is not a benevolent person, but he believes that killing cannot solve all problems, at least not most of them.
Therefore, in terms of force, the Advance Team now basically tries to restrain as much as possible, unless necessary or if the other party poses a real threat to their survival; otherwise, the Advance Team, in principle, does not deal lethal blows. If not for this reason, who knows how many more lives Feng would have on his hands.
After driving the outsiders away, the group simply ate some delivered meals and then continued to stay indoors waiting for responses from both sides, especially from the Wuyun Sect.
Around noon, around the same time as yesterday, they heard bustling noises outside the house again. Considering that the town people had been warned yesterday, there was a high probability that the visitors would be from the Wuyun Sect.
"Let’s go, follow yesterday’s deployment and continue to respond." Cheng Ziang said, picking up a mask from the table and putting it on.
"Why do we always have to be on guard, I want to be a known face for once," Hu Daoke complained discontentedly.
"Stop it, people from the Wuyun Sect are cultivators. We must be fully prepared and not take them lightly," Cheng Ziang glanced at him and said.
Following yesterday’s arrangement, Cheng Ziang led Feng and went out from the yard to the open space. This time the Wuyun Sect came out in full force, bringing over a hundred people, led by a robust man in his forties or fifties, who looked incredibly tall and muscular, like a towering iron tower.
Next to him stood Pojun, who had been defeated yesterday. His injuries seemed to have improved, and he was now able to barely straighten his back.
"Are you the ones who injured Pojun yesterday?" The leading man asked directly as soon as he saw Cheng Ziang, using a loud voice.
The man was bare-chested, his muscular upper body showing numerous scars. Observing his stride and the wounds on his body, Cheng Ziang roughly judged that this man must have served in the army, properly a retired General.
"That’s us," replied Cheng Ziang, nodding and answering unhurriedly.
"How may I address you?" the man continued to ask.
"Envoys of the Azure Dragon and White Tiger under the Saint," Cheng Ziang replied.
"I am Dongliang Yu, Sect Master of the Wuyun Sect," the man said with clasped hands.
"Dong... Sect Master Dongliang, it’s been a long time," Cheng Ziang returned the salute.
Hearing his name, Cheng Ziang realized something was off, as the person in front of him was no ordinary man; from his name alone it was apparent he likely hailed from aristocratic families, as only members of aristocratic families had such three-syllable names.
