Chapter 1506: Chapter 1499: Linglan’s Wish
"Luo’er, do you have any opinions?" Baiyue looked at Luo’er and asked.
"I don’t have any particular opinions, just that, as a saint, we should ensure sanctity and inviolability, so..." Luo’er shrugged his shoulders, glancing at Tangmo unintentionally.
"What do you mean? Are you targeting me?" Tangmo pouted discontentedly.
"In order to carry out the plan, you cannot lay hands on me; in front of others, we must maintain a distance," Luo’er said.
"Then why don’t we create a cheerful..." Before Tangmo could finish her suggestion, she was interrupted by Cheng Ziang with a chop to her head, causing her to grimace in pain.
"At a time like this, stop fussing about unnecessary things," Cheng Ziang said with a disappointed look. After pausing, he continued seriously, "Since the tasks have already been assigned, we should start the corresponding preparations."
"Yes," Baiyue nodded and said, "We each need a set of unique style costumes, and we also need a carriage for transportation. Especially for Luo’er, since his role is a saint, he should be dressed in ceremonial robes and long gowns. If he dresses like us, it would not set him apart from us."
Zhuyan Yu smiled, approving their methods, but also added, "I’d gently remind you, since you’ve decided to go this way, you should reinforce such a view subconsciously. Do not think you’re just role-playing, but truly believe you are missionaries, spreading the gospel of Western Continent throughout Kyushu."
"It’s about acting so convincingly that even we believe it," Hu Daoke scratched his head and said.
"No, it’s not about acting, but that you are truly doing it, you are truly preaching. Because only in this way, can you avoid giving yourselves away," Zhuyan Yu cautioned, lifting his index finger.
"But what about religion? We don’t know much about it, do we?" Hu Daoke looked around, saying with a troubled face.
"As long as you can talk big, that should be enough, and isn’t that Luo’er’s strong point?" Zhuyan Yu smiled slightly while speaking.
"Religion is something created from nothing. Since we are to be missionaries, we might as well borrow some from existing religious frameworks to formulate our own narrative," Cheng Ziang mused deeply.
"Alright, then that’s settled," Luo’er nodded and said, "The saint leading the quarters’ guards and court mages to Kyushu to spread the gospel, that’s the script."
After deciding on the new direction, Luo’er seemed much happier, not as negative as before. The Advance Team went shopping together for fabric and silk to sew the required costumes.
This process would take some time, so taking advantage of this, Luo’er went to the highest governing official Linglan’s reception room to prepare for his farewell.
After more than two years of acquaintance, Luo’er and Linglan had become very familiar with each other. Although there had been some unpleasantness due to issues on the frontlines, they were still on speaking terms, so Linglan also took time out of her busy schedule to meet with Luo’er.
"Mr. Luo’er, it’s been a while since our last meeting. I am truly relieved to have you in my humble abode," Linglan said, still using the same formal rhetoric.
"You are too kind, Governor Linglan. It should be my honor that you could find time to meet me amid your busy schedule," Luo’er replied politely.
"Since our last encounter, Mr. Luo’er seems to have been upset with me," Linglan glanced at Luo’er subtly and mentioned quietly.
"Not at all, this is your war, and I have no place to intervene, nor would I take it too seriously. My resignation was merely because I found it too tough and wanted some rest," Luo’er said with a light smile.
"So, has Mr. Luo’er rested well now?" Linglan asked, tilting her head.
"Actually, the purpose of my visit this time is to bid farewell," Luo’er decided to get straight to the point.
"Oh, where does Mr. Luo’er wish to go?" Linglan asked curiously, her fingers interlaced.
"To Kyushu in the east," Luo’er replied.
"The journey to Kyushu is perilous and the local customs fierce. Mr. Luo’er, can you tell me your reasons for doing this?" Linglan showed a sincere attitude.
"I’ve always been curious as to why the Dongsheng Empire repeatedly encroaches on our territory. I’ve thought about this issue for a long time in West Outer Heaven, but no matter what, I could not understand it. So, I think the best way to clarify this issue is to visit Kyushu, find out the reasons behind the Dongsheng Empire’s repeated encroachments, and then persuade the Emperor of Kyushu to permanently abandon invading West Outer Heaven," Luo’er explained his intentions.
"Does Mr. Luo’er think that he can convince Emperor Wu of the Dongsheng Empire?" Linglan revealed an elusive smile and squinted her eyes as she asked.
"Whether I am confident or not, Linglan, as the ruler, should be very clear, shouldn’t you?" Luo’er stated.
"I believe in Mr. Luo’er’s capability," Linglan spoke, changing her tune, "but we have just ended the state of war with the Dongsheng Empire, and going to Kyushu now might not be appropriate. It might be better to stay in West Outer Heaven for a few more years until the resentments from both sides dissipate before heading to Kyushu."
"I hope Linglan, as the ruler, can understand something: it is Abisien and the Dongsheng Empire that have ended their state of war, not us. We foreigners are probably entirely negligible to the Dongsheng Empire," Luo’er reminded.
"That’s true, but, sir, going from West Outer Heaven to Kyushu could easily lead to unnecessary misunderstandings and cause considerable trouble, so please think it over thrice," Linglan’s attitude appeared very sincere.
"I have already decided, Governor Linglan," Luo’er looked at her earnestly and said, "Ever since I arrived in West Outer Heaven and met all of you, I have been open about my stance. We oppose any form of aggression and hope to transform the weapons of war into gifts of peace. Now that the war in West Outer Heaven has subsided, I am then obligated to ensure that peace continues. This is universal value; these are our universal values."
"Are you not planning to enter Kyushu to take up an official position from the Dongsheng?" Linglan squinted her eyes as she asked.
"What do you mean by that, Governor Linglan?" Luo’er said fearlessly, "Coming from the Western Continent to the East, the first place we come into contact with is West Outer Heaven. When our fleet returns one day, it will naturally dock in West Outer Heaven. Since we plan to return, why should we go far to Kyushu to hold office?"
"Since that’s the case, why not let your teacher stay behind? The journey to Kyushu is long and fraught with potential dangers. Staying in West Outer Heaven is ultimately safer," Linglan, revealing her hands openly, broached the subject directly.
"Is West Outer Heaven really safe? Since you, Governor Linglan, have already planned to advance northward and war is likely to resume in West Outer Heaven, where does the safety come from?" Luo’er stared at Linglan and unapologetically exposed her intentions.
"Mr. Luo’er is very well-informed," Linglan not only wasn’t shocked by Luo’er’s accusation but even showed a happy smile.
"The Demon Clan army has already started marching north, and soon war will resume in West Outer Heaven. This is probably a plan Governor Linglan had made long ago," Luo’er’s expression became serious.
"That’s right," Linglan admitted without hesitation, "I have long thought about it; after solving the three aristocratic families, it will be time to deal with the Northern Demon Clan. They are submissive externally, and I hope they are the same internally."
"Governor Linglan, aren’t you afraid of losing public support by doing this?" Luo’er asked emotionlessly.
"What do you think should be done then, Mr. Luo’er?" Linglan countered, "If we don’t settle this now, the next time they invade, the Northern Demon Clan will still be compliant. I am fed up with these days of inferiority. Since we are all from the Demon Clan, why should the Southern Yao Race always bow down to the Northern Demon Clan?"
"I have said before, I am going to Kyushu to stop the Dongsheng Empire from invading West Outer Heaven, and I am confident that I can make the Dongsheng Empire permanently abandon the idea of invading West Outer Heaven," Luo’er stated.
"It’s not that I don’t believe in Mr. Luo’er, but shouldn’t we be prepared for all eventualities? Abisien should not be just a tribal alliance but a nation. Once we pacify the north of West Outer Heaven, all of this will come true," Linglan said, her eyes narrowing dreamily.
