Otherworld Advance Team
Chapter 1491 - 1484: Hard to Shake

Chapter 1491: Chapter 1484: Hard to Shake

"You always emphasize that conventional methods should be used to resolve this war. So, tell me, what constitutes ’conventional’ and what is ’unconventional’? This is inherently a matter of life and death for both clans; it’s essentially a duel to the death between two groups. It’s somewhat ridiculous to talk about conventionality in such times," Zisu said, her tone mocking.

Clearly, Cheng Ziang was defeated again. He tried to persuade Zisu with the argument: "Conventional wars should be fought with conventional methods," but she retorted with: "This is a battle for the survival of the nation."

Though these two seem unrelated, they actually represent different degrees of intensity. One emphasizes that the war isn’t so severe, and should be handled conventionally. The other stresses that this is a do-or-die war, necessitating heavy punches and even the use of unconventional methods if necessary.

It seems Zisu came fully prepared, apparently gathering her arguments once she realized that Cheng Ziang could understand the Ghost Race.

A long silence ensued again, with the awkward atmosphere permeating the salty air on the deck. Being unable to argue against Zisu was mainly due to Cheng Ziang’s own shortcomings; having dirt on his hands, how could he possibly convince others?

In such a situation, Luo’er would actually be the most suitable to persuade others. From Cheng Ziang’s perspective, Luo’er truly embodied unity in words and actions, so even if it’s repetitive, hearing it from him would be much more persuasive than from Cheng Ziang.

Regrettably, the current circumstances did not allow for Luo’er to step in; after all, he was still in Big South East Peace, and Cheng Ziang didn’t want him venturing into such dangerous places.

Since the Advance Team was stranded in the East Continent, Luo’er effectively became the pillar of support for everyone. From Zhuyan Yu right down to Taran, no one wanted any harm to come to Luo’er, for if something happened to him, their pillar would completely crumble.

If Luo’er were to die, the Advance Team would surely disband, and even if Zhuyan Yu intervened, the situation might not change. That’s why everyone in the Advance Team hoped Luo’er wouldn’t head to the frontline again.

Under these circumstances, sending Luo’er was undoubtedly the best option. On one hand, Luo’er himself was highly persuasive, and on the other hand, due to his good relationship with Zisu, he was fully capable of undertaking this role.

Thinking this, Cheng Ziang couldn’t help but sigh deeply, his head drooping into dejectedness.

"If there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave now. Thank you for your protection during this time, I will forever remember it," Zisu said, turning to leave the deck.

"In fact..." Her voice had just faded when she heard Cheng Ziang’s deep voice.

"In fact?" Zisu asked, tilting her head in confusion.

"I know I’m not qualified to say this, but I still want to say," Cheng Ziang raised his head to look at her seriously, "even in a war of life and death, it should not be so barbaric."

"What are you trying to say?" Zisu stared at him.

"Nothing," Cheng Ziang shook his head and averted his gaze, "After this return, our military observation group will find a time to withdraw from the frontline, and regroup with Luo’er in Big South East Peace, no longer providing military guidance and support to the Demon Clan army. We ask for your understanding."

"Just because I used the witchcraft of the Ghost Race, it dissatisfied you?" Zisu asked without a change in expression.

"Yes," Cheng Ziang nodded without hesitation.

"Well, I truly am sorry," Zisu said this but her face didn’t show a trace of regret.

"You don’t need to apologize to me, our decision to return isn’t solely because of you. It’s just... your methods have stirred some unpleasant memories for us," Cheng Ziang said.

"Can you talk to me about it?" Zisu asked.

Hearing her words, Cheng Ziang turned his head to look at her, pursed his lips and after a moment of silence, he opened his mouth and said, "Back then in the Western Continent, an evil force wanted to use this kind of weapon against my country. Although we stopped their plot, the thought of it always terrifies us, even causing us to wake from our sleep."

"So, our actions make you feel uncomfortable, is that it?" Zisu asked.

"Yes," Cheng Ziang nodded and said, "Do not impose on others what you yourself do not desire. We almost suffered such an attack, so we don’t want to use this method on others. You can question our statement, you can mock our action. But this is genuinely how we feel."

"Well then..." Zisu nodded, her face smiling again, "You should go back first, this war should end soon."

"Let’s hope so..." Cheng Ziang said, letting out a long sigh, and silently walked away.

Clearly, the negotiation had failed, and Cheng Ziang had been unable to shake Zisu’s resolve to use the bioweapon. A disaster seemed inevitable and one could only wonder how many would lose their lives because of it.

Cheng Ziang returned to the cabin where Baiyue and Feng were sitting on the bed waiting for him. Seeing his dejected expression, Baiyue had a rough idea of what had happened but couldn’t help asking: "Did it fail?"

"You can’t shake the resolve of someone bent on killing, especially when she possesses such powerful weapons," Cheng Ziang sighed.

"So what do we do, resort to force?" Baiyue asked with a slight frown.

"Not necessary, really not necessary," Cheng Ziang said, sitting down on the bed opposite them, hands crossed, and after a moment of silence, he added, "I kind of don’t want to deal with these issues anymore."

"But you said this was a request from the elders of the Ghost Race," Baiyue pointed out.

"That’s true, but we really shouldn’t offend the Demon Clan just for the sake of what we call a sense of justice. Although we always emphasize that it is the Demon Clan who need us, not the other way around. But at such a crucial time, there’s really no need to make both parties unhappy."

"Then let’s not handle it, just take care of Feng and take her back soon, don’t let her get infected by the plague," Baiyue said, instinctively hugging Feng and stroking her hair.

"Is the disaster unavoidable," Cheng Ziang sighed again, "In that case, what should we do about Yichuan Ying?"

"My words might sound a bit harsh, but I think it’s the best solution to the problem at hand," Baiyue suggested, "Take her back to Big South East Peace sooner, at least this way she won’t see her brother’s death."

"Or, should we dispose of her?" Baiyue tentatively asked.

"What a joke," Cheng Ziang angrily dismissed the idea, "We promised to take care of her, abandoning her now when disaster strikes, I can’t do that, and Luo wouldn’t approve of it."

"That’s fine," Baiyue nodded in satisfaction, "You know what to do then. Just forget about the things that aren’t your concern. According to our previous arrangement, once you return to the front line, head back and meet up with Luo."

She saw Cheng Ziang’s guilty expression and after a moment of silence, she continued, "Don’t feel too guilty either. During feudal times, human lives were as cheap as grass. Earth only began valuing human life after experiencing two world wars. Things that can’t be changed overnight, we really shouldn’t get too upset over them."

"I really overestimated them, thinking that after our ideological reformation, they could become modern people. Haha, what was I thinking, such things can’t be so easily accomplished," Cheng Ziang said, displaying a self-deprecating smile.

"The best way to make them obey is through force. We can’t transform them because we lack sufficient military power. When the aerial fleet arrives over West Outer Heaven, they’ll be willing to listen to our advice and transform themselves. Currently, we can’t do anything, but we’ve already done a lot, and that’s enough," Baiyue comforted.
