Chapter 1476: Chapter 1469: Checking into the City

Of course, even though this is a city of the Ghost Race, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the city was entirely built by them. Because to support such a massive city, the group must possess strong productivity.

During the time of the Aud Empire in the Western Continent, the might of the Aud Empire was once powerful, and productivity soared tremendously. Now, a considerable number of city constructions in the northern part of the Western Continent are basically legacies from the era of the Aud Empire. On the contrary, after the Empire split, the productivity of each independent Kingdom declined significantly.

Baiyue was not sure whether these buildings were related to the Kyushu Empire’s invasion, because from the current situation, the entire civilization of the East Continent had been more or less influenced by the civilization of the Kyushu Empire, just as the civilization of the Western Continent originated from the Aud Empire.

Even the Demon Clan and the Ghost Race, who are enemies, could not avoid adopting some of the cultural traditions of Kyushu. If the Kyushu Empire did not present an aggressive stance, these two civilizations would probably be quite willing to form an alliance with Kyushu civilization.

After entering the city, although there was still a drizzle in the sky, the group felt much more refreshed. It felt good to finally walk on solid stone pavements, without that muddy and powerless feeling, making their footsteps seem incredibly light.

Upon entering the city, the group bid farewell to the villagers, and then the three of them followed Zisu up the steps, one level after another, towards the center of the city.

Although they had entered into the heart of the city, Cheng Ziang could tell that the Ghost Race here still maintained the lifestyle of a tribe. But being the orthodox Ghost Race, the order here was much better than in the fishing village.

As they ascended the steps deeper into the city, at the entrance of a splendid building, the group once again encountered two Ghost Race warriors with swords at their waists. They wore leaf hats and masks, and draped thick straw raincoats, standing there like statues.

Their masks were obviously different, still resembling the Yaksha, but overall more exaggerated and eerie. After a few more glances, Cheng Ziang could feel a distinct discomfort.

Facing these two warriors, Zisu had the three stop, and then she proactively approached them. After performing the Ghost Race’s courtesy, she spoke to the two warriors in the Ghost Race’s language: "I am Zisu from the Demon Clan, here on important business."

With that, she took off her own mask, revealing the distinct features of the Maoyou Clan.

Upon seeing Zisu’s true face, the two warriors exchanged glances, and one of them made a hand gesture to his companion, then turned and walked into the building.

Seeing the warrior leave, Zisu breathed a sigh of relief and then stood quietly in place waiting. Cheng Ziang took this opportunity to get a good look at the Ghost Race warrior.

He stood with legs apart, right hand slightly bent, fingers spread open, and appeared to be casually dangling. However, his left hand rested on the hilt of the sword at his waist, with the thumb pressing against the guard.

With his knowledge of swordplay, he knew this to be a stance of vigilance. In such a pose, the Ghost Race warrior could use the thumb of his left hand to nudge the blade out of the scabbard in an instant, and then draw the sword rapidly with his right hand.

This posture did resemble the sword-drawing technique of Kenjutsu, but the Iron Heart Wooden Sword typically worn by the Ghost Race warriors had a standard straight edge, not a curved one.

It seemed that short weapons had more advantage in city combat, hence on the way up, Cheng Ziang noticed that the warriors generally all wore swords at their waists, and there were few carrying long pole arms.

Of course, there were also patrolling guards on the city walls, who were commonly armed with powerful crossbows, effectively compensating for the lack of long-range firepower.

In a short while, the warrior came back out of the door, then said to Zisu: "The elder permits your entry, envoy from West Outer Heaven."

"Thank you," Zisu replied with a smile and nod before she stepped towards the door.

As Cheng Ziang and his companions were about to follow, they were immediately stopped by the warriors. Their right hands swiftly landed on the hilt of their swords, then they drew a quarter of the blade, using it as a threatening gesture to block the three.

To be honest, although these warriors had a formidable aura, their combat effectiveness was just so-so. Cheng Ziang might find it a bit uncomfortable to face them, but Feng could definitely handle these two.

It’s not even about crossing swords with them; if Feng really made a move, these two warriors wouldn’t even have a chance to draw their swords. Because in Feng’s eyes, their speed of drawing was simply too slow, like a slow-motion action.

"They are my escorts," Zisu noticed the situation behind her and thus stopped and addressed the warriors.

"They are carrying weapons, and we absolutely cannot allow them to meet the elder," one of the Ghost Race warriors said coldly.

"Then please allow me to take them to their accommodations first, is that okay?" Zisu asked with a smile, seemingly unfazed by the tense atmosphere.

Upon hearing her words, the warrior glanced at her, then at Cheng Ziang and others, and finally nodded, relenting as he said, "Then follow me, guests from afar. The elder has prepared accommodations for you."

In reality, Zisu was also providing the warrior with a way out because she could clearly sense that although the two warriors had taken the initiative to show their weapons, their confidence was not that strong.

During this time, Zisu had witnessed the strength of the Kyushu girl known as Feng, so she was very aware that if Cheng Ziang and the other two were determined to resist, the two warriors would be cut down before they could even speak.

Thus, the group followed the warrior to the accommodations prepared for them, and Zisu seemed to know her way around very well, suggesting it wasn’t her first visit.

After settling the three in their room, Zisu said to them, "Alright, just wait here. You can go out if you want, but try not to cause any trouble."

"Don’t you need us for protection anymore?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"Hehe," Zisu chuckled upon hearing his question, and then gently shook her head, "Rest assured, here in Wujing Yv, it’s the safest place in the entire Aximiya Island. I won’t be in trouble. After all, it’s not my first time here."

"Even though you are from the Demon Clan, it feels like you grew up here. You really are suited for this kind of diplomatic work," Cheng Ziang couldn’t help but compliment.

"You flatter me. Maybe in my past life, I was a parrot, which is why I pick up other languages very quickly," Zisu said with narrowed eyes, smiling and happily accepting his praise.

"Why didn’t those two people let us in just now?" Cheng Ziang asked, blinking.

"You don’t know?" Instead of answering right away, Zisu unexpectedly countered with a question.

"Know what?" Cheng Ziang asked with a puzzled look on his face.

"Oh, no, it’s nothing. They probably saw that you were carrying weapons, so they dared not let you in," Zisu shook her head as she explained.

"Can we carry weapons when we go out on the street?" Cheng Ziang continued to ask.

"Better not overdo it," Zisu glanced at the Origin Submachine Gun on the table, then said to him, "Even if you take weapons, try to conceal them as much as possible. This is the Ghost Race’s territory; it’s best to avoid causing trouble."

"Got it," Cheng Ziang nodded.

"Alright, I’m off to the meeting. Feel free to do as you wish, but remember to come back before dinner, there will be a banquet to host us," Zisu reminded them.

"Alright, take care, see you at dinner," Cheng Ziang nodded and then watched as Zisu left the room.

Watching Zisu leave the room and her footsteps grow fainter, Baiyue leaned forward and asked him, "Was she testing you just now?"

"Heh, you really think I didn’t know?" Cheng Ziang’s eyes narrowed as he stared in the direction Zisu had disappeared, revealing a mocking smile.

"You were testing her just now too, weren’t you?" Baiyue continued to ask.

"Mutual testing," Cheng Ziang shrugged his shoulders, then looked around the room and couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief, "But no matter what, at least we finally have a chance to rest properly. This damnable island, it just keeps raining non-stop. Any more of this and I’m going to develop rheumatism."

"I’m going to find a place where we can bathe and wash clothes, get cleaned up properly," Baiyue said with a sigh of relief as well.

"Help me with my laundry too," Cheng Ziang said.

Upon hearing his request, Baiyue rolled her eyes and finally opened her mouth to say, "Wash your own underwear!"
