Chapter 1468 - 1461: Dual Invasion

Chapter 1468: Chapter 1461: Dual Invasion

"Mom sent me to bring you food." Although wearing a mask, Balan still habitually bowed his head, looking rather shy.

"Oh, thank you." Cheng Ziang instinctively blurted out.

"You... look so strange..." Balan lifted his head and immediately stared at Cheng Ziang’s face, stunned.

Cheng Ziang had a typical Northern Aud face, with very distinct facial features, and his light-colored hair made him stand out from the surroundings. Not just him, but Balan also noticed that girl named Baiyue, who although possessed beast ears unique to the Demon Clan, looked completely different from the Demon Clan’s people.

Since it was morning and they were indoors, the group wasn’t wearing masks, but it seemed Balan didn’t mind much.

As mentioned before, wearing masks is a tradition of the Ghost Race. Guests could either wear them or not, but out of respect for each other’s customs, guests should wear masks when entering certain Ghost Race venues as a sign of respect.

The Ghost Race people wouldn’t really think that not wearing masks is the same as not wearing clothes; they would just curiously look some more, as some of them quite envy this freedom from masks.

While Balan was observing everyone, Cheng Ziang was also carefully observing her. Balan’s skin wasn’t the soot-black kind, but rather a healthy deep wheat color. Cheng Ziang was impressed by her appearance, he was very aware that beneath Balan’s mask was a delicately pretty face.

"So you mean I look strange?" Cheng Ziang asked with a smile, legs crossed.

"Oh no, not like that, I mean..." Balan quickly waved her hands, nervously trying to explain.

"No need to be so formal, we’re not angry. Have a seat, let’s take this opportunity to chat." Cheng Ziang said, gesturing with his hand.

"Chat, chat about what?" Balan asked nervously.

"Well, anything is fine," Cheng Ziang paused slightly and awkwardly asked, "About yesterday, when we rescued you, it seemed like you ran into some trouble. Is everything alright now?"

"Yesterday..." Balan thought of last night and her body shivered involuntarily again. After taking a deep breath and calming herself, she looked earnestly at Cheng Ziang, "I, I had a strange dream, I dreamt about you all... Is this... fate?"

"Ahh, the workings of Heaven’s will indeed." Cheng Ziang said, scratching his head awkwardly.

He knew very well it wasn’t really Heaven’s will, but rather, during Liseya’s intrusion, her soul resonated with Balan’s somehow allowing her to access Liseya’s memories, thus seeing fragments related to the Advance Team.

"Is it Heaven’s will?" Balan looked up at him, and although wearing a mask, Cheng Ziang could still see her eyes wide open.

"Maybe it’s divinity guiding us to save you," Cheng Ziang said guiltily.

"Hehe, sure spouting nonsense again..." Baiyue muttered without looking up.

"Is he spouting nonsense?" Hearing Baiyue, Balan tilted her head and asked.

"Huh?!"

Hearing Balan’s question, Cheng Ziang’s eyes widened in shock. Because Baiyue just joked in Chinese, not in the Demon Clan or Tasta language. If Balan understood their conversation, it meant her access level was higher than both had imagined.

It could even be said that while Liseya intruded her, Balan had also intruded Liseya, and that’s what caused this situation.

"Balan, can you understand what we are saying?" Cheng Ziang asked excitedly, gripping Balan’s shoulders.

"Yes... yes, what’s wrong?" Balan, flustered by Cheng Ziang’s action, nodded timidly.

"We’re in trouble..." Cheng Ziang turned to look at Baiyue with an expression full of embarrassment.

"See, that’s what you get for always looking for shortcuts." Baiyue sighed, glancing at him.

"No, it’s not the worst yet," Cheng Ziang took a deep breath, then turned back to stare at Balan.

Balan was backed against the wall, cornered, curling up her body, and looking at him with a fearful face, her calves twitching.

"Balan, we don’t want to hurt you or cause you harm, can you listen to us till the end?" Cheng Ziang said seriously.

"Hmm..." Balan nodded blankly.

"Listen carefully, never tell anyone that you can understand our language, especially outsiders. It would be very dangerous. Our identity in this world is very special, and many people are looking to cause us trouble. So for your own sake and ours, never tell anyone about us. Understand?" Cheng Ziang said seriously.

"Oh..." Balan nodded, though it was unclear if he really absorbed the words.

"The fact that I can understand your language and you can understand ours is a secret between us. Never tell anyone else, not even if your mother asks, and certainly not to outsiders. This is not a threat, but a reminder, as you are too fragile to withstand the threats of this world," Cheng Ziang continued solemnly.

"I... I understand..." Balan nodded again.

"We saved you, so you owe us your gratitude. Of course, I don’t ask you to do anything, just keep our secret. That’ll be your way of repaying us, okay?" Cheng Ziang continued to instruct.

"Is that enough?" Balan asked, eyes wide.

"Yes, that’s enough." Cheng Ziang nodded.

"Oh... Okay..." Balan lowered his head, not sure if it was his imagination, but Cheng Ziang thought he saw a hint of disappointment in his eyes.

"Alright, let’s chat for a bit. Have you had breakfast yet?" Cheng Ziang relaxed and then released Balan, picking up some food from the floor and asked.

"Yes." Balan was still a bit stunned and nodded hurriedly.

Cheng Ziang took a clay bowl, scooped some stew from the pot with a spoon, and started drinking it in front of Balan. It was the first time Balan had seen someone eat like this, and he stared intently at Cheng Ziang’s actions.

"Do you want some?" Cheng Ziang noticed his gaze and asked curiously.

Balan didn’t answer, but instead shook his head vigorously. Cheng Ziang was puzzled for a moment but quickly understood what he was thinking.

The Ghost Race eats with their heads down, lifting their masks, and they don’t speak while eating. The way Cheng Ziang was holding the bowl and talking while eating was something new to Balan.

"Speaking of which," after drinking half a bowl, Cheng Ziang suddenly thought of something and looked at Balan, "Do those Faceless ghosts come here often?"

"Yes." Balan was still a bit nervous, pausing for a while before nodding in response.

"Where do they live?" Cheng Ziang continued to ask.

"In the mountains," Balan answered.

"Then isn’t it very dangerous for you to enter the mountains since they are there?" asked Cheng Ziang.

"That’s why we usually don’t go into the mountains, and stay near the sea," Balan replied honestly.

"Why not send some people into the mountains to eliminate them all at once and solve the problem permanently?" Cheng Ziang asked curiously.

"They are very powerful and numerous," Balan blinked and answered.

"Many?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"Yes, the great shaman says they reproduce like wild beasts, able to have many offspring. As long as they are not eradicated, they can recover quickly," Balan stated earnestly.

"How quickly?" Cheng Ziang asked, as there was no such record in Balan’s memory he could recall.

"Very fast, basically they can’t be exterminated," Balan gestured as he spoke.

"To become like last night, it would take at least twenty years, how can that be fast?" Hearing Balan’s words, Cheng Ziang fell into thoughtful confusion.

"Balan probably means that they reproduce quickly and grow fast," Baiyue, who was interested in this topic, joined in while holding her bowl.

"Reproduce quickly and grow fast, they’re not rabbits, how is that possible?" Cheng Ziang asked, puzzled.

"Possible, of course possible," Baiyue said, her face revealing a mysterious smile.
