Chapter 1379: Chapter 1372: The Cycle of History

"You... your hair, is it natural?" Zisu stared at Luo’er’s hair and asked hesitantly.

"Of course, why do you ask all of a sudden?" Luo’er was puzzled and inquired.

"No, I just feel like," Zisu shook her head and said as she lowered her eyelids, "your hair looks like the people from Kyushu. At first, I thought you were one of them."

"Indeed, it’s similar, because of the black hair, right?" Luo’er looked around and then directed his gaze back to her.

"Yes, but you shouldn’t be related to them, given that you don’t even speak the Kyushu language," Zisu said, looking up at him.

"Didn’t I already tell you," Luo’er scratched his head, "we come from another world. This hair color is inherited from my father, who is from that world. And my mother, she is from the Western Continent."

"Is that so..." Zisu murmured, lowering her head again.

"You seem to have something you want to say, is it that you’re too shy to speak, or that you can’t talk about it?" Luo’er tilted his head and asked.

"Oh no, it’s just me thinking," Zisu waved her hand and then looked up at Luo’er again. After a moment, she pursed her lips and finally spoke, "Actually... I’ve heard from my sister that, a long time ago, there was a man who was like the people from Kyushu but wasn’t one of them, who came to West Outer Heaven."

"What do you mean?" Luo’er scratched his head, not quite grasping what she meant.

"Just like you," Zisu said, "with black hair, but unlike you, his eyes were dark. He probably wasn’t from your world, right?"

Had Zisu not mentioned that last detail, Luo’er might not have reacted so strongly. As soon as she finished, he was visibly stunned. His eyes widened, and after a long silence, he pointed to himself, his voice filled with excitement, "Are you saying that someone with black hair and black eyes like me has been here before?"

"No, your eyes are green," Zisu blinked and said.

"Where is he?" Luo’er asked, grabbing Zisu’s shoulders excitedly.

"Wh-What’s wrong?" Zisu was startled by his sudden gesture.

"Sorry, sorry." Luo’er immediately withdrew his hands, realizing his inappropriate behavior, and said guiltily.

"No, I don’t mind you getting in touch with me," Zisu lowered her head, her voice shy.

"Where is that man?" Luo’er didn’t catch her hint, as he eagerly pressed on.

"Why are you so interested in that person? That was over a hundred years ago," Zisu said seriously.

"Over a hundred years ago?" Luo’er was momentarily dumbstruck.

"Yes," Zisu nodded and then tapped her lips with a finger, glancing upwards as she thought aloud, "It was around... one hundred and fifty years ago. Yes, that’s right. That man had a smooth forehead with short hair at the back. Later, he thought this looked bad, so he shaved his head completely bald."

"One hundred and fifty years ago, that was before the fall of the Great Qing..." Luo’er mused upon hearing her words.

Of course, a year in the Otherworld and a year on Earth had discrepancies, so if you were to calculate Earth years in terms of Otherworld time, a hundred years could vary by about five years.

"What’s wrong, did I say something incorrect?" Zisu looked uneasy as she noticed Luo’er’s expression.

"No," Luo’er shook his head and raised his gaze to hers, "Can you tell me more about this man?"

"I only remember roughly, after all, it happened so long ago," Zisu replied.

"That’s okay, I can make sense of it," Luo’er reassured her with a shake of his head.

"Speaking of this man," Zisu paused and then continued, "he made significant contributions to the Demon Clan. Ten years after his arrival in West Outer Heaven, he had pretty much settled down here. When the Dongsheng Empire invaded, he provided the Demon Clan’s army with a revolutionary weapon, the firearm. It was the introduction of firearms that turned the tide of that war."

"The Demon Clan’s army was very large back then, and after being augmented by firearms, they quickly dealt with the Dongsheng army. Thereafter, the Demon Clan’s army continued to develop such weapons, and all kinds of firearms and cannons were invented. And all of this was thanks to that man."

"The man passed away more than thirty years after arriving in West Outer Heaven and called his family together on his deathbed. He advised them to treat outsiders kindly, and if possible, to seek their help against the invasion by the Dongsheng Empire. As a result, treating outsiders kindly became a tradition amongst the Demon Clan..."

"So that’s how it is..." Hearing her words, Luo’er suddenly thought of the first time they had met Linglan.

"Thereafter," Zisu continued, "the Demon Clan actively absorbed foreign cultures, including technologies, languages, scripts, and so on. The architectural styles you see here were all drawn from Kyushu."

"Opening up to the outside world is indeed not a bad thing," Luo’er nodded in approval.

"A hundred years ago, we had him; a hundred years later, we have you. It seems this is Heaven’s will," Zisu said, turning to look at Luo’er with a hint of softness in her eyes.

Hearing her words, Luo’er was momentarily astonished. If he wasn’t mistaken, that person must have been a Transcender, who used the technology of his era to help change the outcome of the war for the Demon Clan’s army. A hundred years later, he himself had helped the Demon Clan people to improve these weapons, once again aiding them in defeating the invaders. In a way, this seemed like a cycle.

"Speaking of which, if I remember correctly..." Zisu suddenly seemed to recall something and added, "Sister Linglan should be a descendant of that man, right?"

"Really? How can she... oh..." Luo’er’s eyes widened, about to ask a question, but then he caught on right away.

He wanted to ask why Linglan didn’t exhibit any traits of the East Asian Race. But he quickly realized that the Demon Clan’s genes, like those of elves, were dominant. As a half-demon, Linglan would naturally look like a member of the Demon Clan and not like an East Asian person.

However, Luo’er finally understood why Linglan had been so cordial upon meeting them; she was, in some way, merely following ancestral instructions.

"Did he leave any messages behind, like letters or something?" Luo’er asked curiously.

"There should be some, but I’m not too clear on the details. You’d have to ask Sister Linglan herself," Zisu said.

Pausing, she added, "Remember, don’t tell her I told you about this. I don’t want to be scolded again."

"Understood, thank you for telling me all this," Luo’er said with a grateful smile.

"Was that man from your world?" Zisu asked curiously.

"Possibly, but we’ll need evidence to confirm that," Luo’er replied.

"Then you must know who he is, right?" Zisu continued to inquire.

"How could I? I’m only in my thirties; the guy has been dead for over a hundred years..." Luo’er said with a wry smile.

"You’re thirty years old?!" Zisu’s eyes widened with surprise upon hearing this.

By appearances alone, Luo’er didn’t even seem like an adult; he looked like a young man just starting out, yet he was already past the age of thirty.

Of course, half-elves only officially become adults at thirty, so it wasn’t necessarily wrong to say that Luo’er had just reached adulthood.

"Are you disappointed?" Luo’er asked somewhat sheepishly.

"In that case, I should be calling you ’big brother’," Zisu said with a smile.

"No, no need to be so formal. I already have many sisters, let’s not go through all that..." Luo’er waved off her kind offer.

"Speaking of which, if you find evidence of that person’s existence, will you know who he is?" Zisu asked.

"It won’t be that easy," Luo’er shrugged.

"Why not?" Zisu asked, puzzled.

"Even back then, our country had almost four hundred million people. How could I possibly know who he was?" Luo’er shook his head.

"Four hundred million..." Zisu seemed bewildered by the number, counting on her fingers.

"It’s forty-thousand times ten-thousand," Luo’er explained.

"So many? Wouldn’t the ground collapse?" Zisu’s eyes widened in shock at his words.

"How could it possibly..." Seeing her somewhat dazed expression, Luo’er couldn’t help but laugh.
