Chapter 136: Chapter 132: Making a Scene

"Brother, help me!" Cheng Ziang, sitting on the ground, weakly pleaded with the guard.

Without any hesitation, the guard turned around to help him pick up the weapon on the ground. Just as Cheng Ziang picked up a long knife which looked unfamiliar to him and was about to ask about it, he suddenly felt a gust of cold wind. His neck had unknowingly been opened with a wide gash.

The guard’s eyes widened, clutching his neck as he slowly fell. Cheng Ziang flicked his wrist, seemingly dissatisfied with his recent action.

"Carry on!" Cheng Ziang sheathed the knife and picked up Luo’er’s AK rifle from the ground, tossing it over to him. Luo’er caught the rifle, chambered a round, and waved at him. The two dragged the bodies into a corner, then returned to the outskirts of the headquarters.

At that moment, two new guards were posted at the headquarters’ outer perimeter. The two glanced at each other. Cheng Ziang staggered towards them, and the two guards immediately drew their swords. Just when Cheng Ziang managed to get in front of them, he suddenly collapsed and pointed at the spot they just arrived from, shouting in horror: "There, there..."

"What happened? Speak clearly!" said the guard, furrowing his eyebrows.

"Right there..." It seemed like Cheng Ziang was totally terrified, his ability to express himself worsened significantly.

The two guards exchanged glances. While they were still trying to figure out what was happening, they suddenly heard an odd plopping sound. It was not loud, but one of the guard’s faces was splashed with blood.

Just as the other guard was freaking out, the prone Cheng Ziang suddenly lunged at him. A sharp dagger found its way through the seams of his armor and stabbed him in the ribs. The sharp dagger pierced through his lung and stuck in his heart. The guard only felt a severe pain and then immediately lost consciousness.

Cheng Ziang struggled to pull out the dagger, letting the guard’s body fall to the ground. His hand was gripping the dagger, now covered with sticky fresh blood.

Luo’er, on the other hand, came out of hiding with a silenced pistol. His pistol was fitted with a silencer and used subsonic small-caliber bullets, thus the sound was reduced to an undetectable volume.

The two dragged the bodies into a corner and didn’t bother to hide them. They reached the door of the headquarters and, after exchanging a glance, barged in.

The two girls in the headquarters had obviously completed their tasks. Tangmo was gritting his teeth, staring at Rodney who lay twitching on the ground. A dagger was lodged in Rodney’s neck, and blood was gushing out. On the other hand, Baiyue had also completed her close-quarters slay. She severed the guard’s fingers with one slash, then slit his throat with another.

After decapitating their targets, they had only just begun their plan. The real play was yet to come. The two girls removed their black cloaks, revealing the uniform of the Mage Corps. They prepared to make a big scene.

"Listen carefully, be safe. Once the flare goes up, you must retreat!" Luo’er reminded them again before they left.

"Okay." The two girls nodded. Tangmo turned to Baiyue and said, "Yue’er, cover me!"

They left the headquarters and arrived at the location where the frontline soldiers were camped. As Tangmo started casting her spells, Luo’er sensed a tumultuous fluctuation of magic in the air. Then, a huge fireball burst into existence, flying directly into a soldiers’ tent and causing a massive explosion.

"Mages, mages are killing people!" Seeing the explosion of the fireball, Luo’er also took out his magic wand guiding another fireball to a tent and then cried out loudly.

They ran towards an artillery position while shouting, causing the entire camp to wake up from the noise. Like a disturbed hornet’s nest, soldiers scrambled out from their tents in disarray, clearly perplexed by the situation.

Tangmo continued to direct her magic - most of which were attack spells above the third level. For her, it didn’t take much time to control these spells. Baiyue held a magic wand in one hand and guarded with a magic crystal pistol in the other. With Tangmo’s high-level magic skills, she did not need Baiyue’s help. What she needed to do was to cover Tangmo while she was casting spells.

There was another series of explosions. The spells Tangmo was using were pinpoint explosions she learned at Sacred Heart Magic Academy. This involved condensing magic power to a point and detonating it instantly, the damage was comparable to a small-caliber shell.

Horrifying screams echoed amongst the crowd as the violent explosions rang out. The two girls cast spells while shifting their positions to avoid being surrounded by the soldiers who had regained their senses.

On the other hand, Luo’er and Cheng Ziang took advantage of the chaos to run towards the artillery position. The guards who were watching the position seemed to be clueless about what had happened, but they still remained at their post.

"Mages, the mages are killing people!" Luo’er sprinted to their front, pointing at the erupting flame in the distance and shouted in fear.

"What on earth is happening?" The guards who were keeping the artillery position asked as they gathered around.

"The mages, the mages of Odelanqi are the ones slaughtering people!" Luo’er was gesticulating wildly as he exclaimed.

"Mages? Those mages from Odelanqi?" Upon hearing Luo’er’s words, everybody started discussing.

"Fight back at them immediately!" Luo’er pointed at the artillery on the position and shouted loudly, "Fire back at them with the artillery!"

"To use artillery, we must get the approval of the legion commander." The guards said awkwardly.

"Commander Rodney is dead," Luo’er revealed with a grief-stricken look on his face.

"What did you say?" The guards were all stunned by his words.

"Commander Rodney, he was killed by mages." Luo’er said, choking back tears.

"Counterattack, hurry up and counterattack!" Cheng Ziang shouted on the side.

"Counterattack, yes, counterattack!" The guards started discussing and then ran towards the cannons, they lifted the canvas and revealed it’s true form.

"Where should we aim?" one guard asked.

"Horizontally, aim at the mages’ camp!" Cheng Ziang pointed at the mage’s base and yelled.

"Yes, a flat shot, flat shot!" The guards began adjusting the posture of the cannon, lowering the muzzle slowly when it aligns to the mages’ camp. Several men ran to the ammunition depot which was a hundred meters away to fetch the shells and bring them to the cannon with a cart.

"What are you doing?!" a few well-dressed soldiers in light armor ran over asking right as they were preparing to fire.

"Odelanqi’s mages are attacking us, we are about to counterattack them," one guard said.

"Nonsense, are cannons something you can operate?" The soldier ran up to them and yelled, "These cannons are valuable resources of the royal artillery battalion, can you afford to compensate if they get damaged?"

"Since you guys are from the artillery battalion, you should come help us fire the cannons, otherwise, the mages will sooner or later wipe out everyone in the base," Cheng Ziang fearlessly stated.

"Impossible, the mage camp is quiet, it’s not possible for mages to be attacking base soldiers, who exactly are you guys?" the artillery soldier shouted suspiciously.

"We are..." Before Cheng Ziang could finish, he kicked the leading soldier and took a pistol from Luo’er Sha and directly shot them. On the other side, Luo’er lifted his AK rifle fitted with a silencer and opened fire on the guards.

These men had no time to react to their unexpected attack. After a brief exchange of fire, all of them were killed. The noise from the suppressed firearms was negligible compared to the explosions in the distance.

"Adjust the position, set the coordinates!" Luo’er dragged away the dead body that was lying on the cannon, he said to Cheng Ziang.

Cheng Ziang hurriedly got to controlling the cannon and adjusting the coordinates they had scouted.

"Hmm?" Suddenly he paused.

"What’s wrong?" Luo’er stuffed a high-explosive shell into the cannon, and then asked.

"There’s something odd about this position, it doesn’t seem to be an Earth’s coordinate," Cheng Ziang said, perplexed.

"Don’t worry too much, a rough estimation will do!" Luo’er waved his hand, continuing to load the propellant.

"Whatever!" Cheng Ziang closed one eye and took a rough aim, then jumped off the cannon.

"Where did the rope for the cannon go?" Luo’er closed the breech lock, looked around, and frustratedly said, "Forget it, let’s use our hands to pull!"

"Get ready!" Luo’er yelled, covering one ear with his hand. Then he pulled down the trigger; a loud sound echoed from the cannon, the massive shockwave gave them goosebumps.

The cannon quivered forcefully, raising a cloud of dust. The breech lock snapped open, and a shell case clattered to the ground.

Both men, not minding their discomfort, continued stuffing shells into the cannon, and then added the propellant. After closing the breech lock, Luo’er pulled the trigger hard again and fired another shell into the distance, towards the mage camp.

After two shots, the whole mage camp burst into flames, they heard the screams of agony from that direction.

Luo’er just shook his hands, about to fire the third round when Cheng Ziang held him back and shouted pointing to the ammunition depot, "Hit that place with one shot, quickly, we’re running out of time!"

"Right!"

Luo’er nodded, the two began to adjust the direction of the cannon until it was aimed at the ammunition depot. Then, they continued to load the shell and propellant. Just before firing, Luo’er handed the flare gun to Cheng Ziang, hinting him to signal the two girls to retreat, while he continued holding the trigger.

"Here you go!" Cheng Ziang took the flare gun, and then threw the rope for launching the cannon which he had just found. Luo’er tied it quickly, seeming relieved, and then moved away from the cannon.

"Get ready!" Luo’er pulled the rope, shouting at Cheng Ziang. Cheng Ziang nodded, then fired a bright flare into the sky, making a piercing noise.

Immediately after, Luo’er pulled the rope hard, and the cannon roared once more. The shell exploded in the ammunition depot, instantly igniting the whole depot, creating a massive explosion.

For a moment, flames shot into the sky, the rapidly approaching shockwave knocked the two men to the ground, who then tumbled around helplessly. They were violently coughing due to the rising dust and the nausea caused by the impact of the shockwave.
