Chapter 1311: Chapter 1344: Unstoppable by Thousands
After speaking, Cheng Ziang thoughtfully found some thatch to cover the man up, to prevent him from being discovered by the Demon Clan army. Although he was ruthless and unyielding in his treatment of the enemy, as a modern person, he strongly disapproved of indiscriminate killing of innocents.
Since this was their first battle, the Demon Clan army seemed a bit too overzealous, with scattered troops running far off. With no other choice, the Demon Clan captain ordered the main force to return to their base, leaving behind a few soldiers to wait for the stragglers to return.
On the other hand, the battle wasn’t going as smoothly.
Turning to Feng’s side, believing in her combat abilities, Luo’er grouped her with Fulajie’er, coordinating an attack with the Demon Clan army.
However, the village they were attacking was in fact a small fortress. Although its main structure was made of rammed earth, which was far stronger than wooden structures regardless, least of all firearms didn’t do much to it.
Worse yet, the entire village only had two entrances, both blocked by gates, which meant that as soon as the fight began, the Demon Clan army couldn’t immediately break through and had to launch a fierce assault.
The delayed attack of the Demon Clan army gave the Dongsheng army time to respond. The sleeping soldiers hastily donned armor and joined the battle. Thanks to the protection of the city walls, the government conscripts weren’t panicked and were methodically addressing logistics and transport issues.
The city walls were lined with crossbowmen who continuously shot arrows outside. And that wasn’t all; the city also had two pieces of Demon Clan artillery, constantly firing outward. Although the solid shot wasn’t very powerful, it still threatened the morale of the Demon Clan army.
Under these circumstances, the offensive of the Demon Clan army ground to a halt. Their Ten-People Formation wasn’t suitable for sieging. The only option was to get as close to the walls as possible, where the musketeers could exchange fire with the enemy.
Technically, the village walls were more of an enclosure than city walls, with a thickness of about twenty to thirty centimeters. The soldiers stood on makeshift wooden battlements, and the cannons were placed in the towers at the corners.
But even such defensive structures were enough to halt the Demon Clan’s advance. The main reason was that the Demon Clan army, for ease of conducting surprise assaults, hadn’t brought any artillery suitable for sieging, which meant they could only attack from the main gates.
"Awkward, we didn’t bring cannons," Fulajie’er sighed reluctantly from a hundred meters back, as Feng watched the ongoing battle ahead.
"I’m going up, I can break through the wall," Feng said, looking toward the distance.
"Don’t be reckless. Luo’er said not to stand out too much," Fulajie’er quickly stopped Feng, sensing something amiss.
"So we do nothing?" Feng asked, confused.
"It’s not quite like that. It’s indeed troublesome if we can’t take down this stronghold. If we just leave, the Dongsheng army will surely follow suit and arm other strongholds like this. That would be an even bigger issue later on," Fulajie’er mused deeply.
"You protect me, then," Feng declared, her voice tinged with excitement as she slowly drew her longsword.
"Eh... uh... fine, fine. I am, after all, your personal guardian deity right now. Go on, I’ve got your back," Fulajie’er hesitated for a moment, then seemed to throw caution to the wind.
"Thank you!" Feng’s eyes sparkled with brilliant light upon hearing her reply.
She charged toward the village with a sword in one hand and a gun in the other, running at a breathtaking speed that astonished all the Demon Clan soldiers who saw.
As she charged, she raised her Yuanzi pistol and shot at the battlements and cannons. Even though Yuanzi weapons had limited effect against cover, the series of explosions caused the Dongsheng army’s assault to stall.
The soldiers hit directly by the blasts were swept by the shockwave and flung off the battlements. The wooden structures caught fire due to the high temperature of the explosions.
Running at top speed, Feng kept shooting, aiming for approximate accuracy. She didn’t intend to solve the problem with the pistol; it was merely covering her advance.
Under her tremendous firepower, the city’s defenders were actually suppressed by her alone, to the point where even the artillery had fallen silent for a long while.
"Don’t shoot anymore, don’t shoot anymore, if you keep firing your gun it’ll be too hot to put away!" Fulajie’er, who was constantly monitoring the condition of the Yuanzi pistol, noticed the temperature of the barrel and quickly shouted her advice.
Hearing her words, Feng smoothly holstered her handgun. She was only a few dozen meters from the city wall at this point. With a forceful strike, she unleashed a ground-splitting slash that rose from the ground and tore towards the wall.
Boom!!!
The ground-splitting slash hit the city wall heavily. However, the pure magical attack didn’t produce enough kinetic energy to completely destroy the wall; it only left a deep gash.
Seeing this, Feng didn’t stop her assault but continued to approach the wall.
She was very clear about her abilities. Her combat magic was mainly aimed at people, not such sturdy defense structures. Therefore, her attacks could easily slash enemies to pieces but were unable to shake such earthen and stone works.
As she neared the wall, she twisted her super mobility device at the waist and then leaped up in an instant, easily scaling the city wall and entering the castle under everyone’s astonished gazes.
Now it was like letting a wolf into a flock of sheep. Facing the Dongsheng soldiers who were too surprised to even react, Feng didn’t care about such things. She swiftly swung her long sword, emitting sword auras that tore apart anyone they came into contact with.
Being a person from the Otherworld, Feng didn’t share Luo’er and the others’ set of values. Precisely because of this, Feng’s attacks made no distinction between soldiers and civilians—anything moving in front of her was attacked without hesitation.
The magical attacks that were ineffective against the city walls were eminently suitable for these enemies. Armor without enchantments couldn’t withstand her strikes, and Dongsheng’s soldiers were easily torn apart by her sword aura.
A General, seeing this, immediately grabbed a long pole weapon and swung it toward her. However, Feng was no slouch in close combat. With a casual parry, the razor-sharp Kedal metal blade cut through the General’s weapon as if chopping bamboo, slicing it in two.
While he was stunned, Feng swiftly drew the Yuanzi pistol from her lower back and fired at his abdomen. Right after he let out a scream, her sword blade swept across, decapitating him in one stroke, blood spraying everywhere.
"Don’t waste time, first destroy the city gate; this isn’t your fight," Fulajie’er urged eagerly, blocking the crossbow bolts shot from afar for her.
Hearing her words, Feng raised her gun again and fired a burst at the wooden city gate. The wood simply couldn’t withstand the Yuanzi Reaction and was blown apart and ignited, quickly creating a breach.
Seeing the city gate blown open, the Demon Clan’s army outside seized the opportunity to charge, and cracks began to appear in Dongsheng’s defensive lines.
Feng continued to fight within the castle, and since her magical power was limited, she couldn’t use all her stored magic to deal with the rank and file. Instead, she focused on the Generals.
Therefore, she tried to resolve the issue through hand-to-hand combat as much as possible, while Fulajie’er shielded her to avoid being hit by stray arrows.
The Dongsheng soldiers, who thought she would be easily captured without her magic attacks, were eager to launch an assault on her. However, they seemed to have overlooked Feng’s combat power.
Feng was not only great at magical combat techniques but also excellent at close combat. After all, she was an apprentice of a sword saint, and armed with her high-tech Kedal metal long sword, it seemed that Dongsheng soldiers’ weapons would be directly cut at the slightest contact without exception.
Feng also relished the clashes against the enemies’ weapons, confident that her own weapon would not break or even nick.
Dongsheng’s army had never encountered such a troublesome enemy before. Feng wielded her long sword like a hot knife through butter. Wherever she struck, weapons snapped. Anyone she slashed, no matter if they wore heavy armor, would be torn apart in an instant.
However, it was exactly because Feng could only engage in close combat that her destructive power actually decreased. Just a few of her sword auras could kill a dozen people, but now her efficiency had dropped by more than half.
However, even though her efficiency had declined, the impression she left was even more profound. Especially her indestructible long sword, which seemed to have no equal in anyone’s hands.
