Chapter 1297: Chapter 1290: Going Deep into the Masses

After arriving at the military camp, with Zisu’s help, Luo’er quickly gathered all the soldiers of the Demon Clan. He and Zisu approached the platform, ready to address these soldiers.

As he looked at the dense crowd below the stage, even Luo’er couldn’t help but feel his heart race, taking several deep breaths before steadying his mind.

Looking down at the soldiers of the Demon Clan, because it was a coalition army, the soldiers below could be said to be a mixed bunch.

Overall, they could be roughly divided into soldiers of the Beast-Ear Race and the Beast Head Tribe. The Beast Head Tribe were relatively more robust in stature, and their average height was also noticeably taller than that of the Beast-Ear Race soldiers, though this was not absolute.

Looking at those Beast-Ear Race soldiers, Luo’er couldn’t help but feel moved; they were a brave group of soldiers, all with large furry ears of different shapes and colors.

It is said that within the same race, one could divide into various sub-tribes based on the patterns and colors of their ears, but Luo’er thought this completely unnecessary. In his ideal vision of the Abisien Alliance, there should be no distinction, everyone should have only one identity, that of the Demon Clan.

These people were originally farmers, merchants, fathers of children but had to become soldiers because of the coming of war.

People often feel pity for lovable things, and Luo’er was no exception. In his eyes, the Beast-Ear Race should be more like mascots rather than war machines. However, they had no choice; the invasion of the Dongsheng Empire forced these frail beings to stand up and resist.

Nevertheless, when they faced Luo’er, he could clearly see that in the eyes of many there was still confusion, as if they could not see the future. It seemed to them, they could not at all understand the meaning of this war.

To unite them, one must first integrate with them.

With this in mind, Luo’er did not choose to stand on the stage but under everyone’s watchful eyes, walked to the edge of the platform and sat down, hoping to blend into the group of soldiers with such a posture.

"Luo’er, what are you doing?" Seeing him slowly sit down, Zisu walked up behind him and asked with confusion.

"This is just a simple conversation, not a lecture from a superior to subordinates," Luo’er turned his head and replied.

"Can you stop deceiving yourself?" Zisu asked helplessly.

"No, I’m serious, not feigning emotions," Luo’er waved his hand and said, "If you don’t mind, would you prefer to sit down with me, or step back? If you stand there, people will be afraid to come close."

"Fine, as long as you know what you’re doing," Zisu spread her hands and then stepped back.

As he watched Zisu leave, Luo’er turned back, faced the crowd’s puzzled looks, coughed slightly to clear his throat, and then spoke out loud: "Today, I came here not to lecture you, nor to instruct you. I want to talk to you about certain matters regarding the war, about what you think, and you can tell me anything. Although I am a foreigner, I detest the Dongsheng Empire just like you, so we are on the same path."

At the conclusion of his words, the crowd looked at each other, with whispered voices but nobody daring to speak up first, as if they were all waiting to see what would happen.

"Very well, since no one wishes to speak, then I’ll start," after a pause, Luo’er said, "In my view, as a foreigner, this war is an out-and-out war of anti-invasion. The Dongsheng Empire is the invader, there is no doubt about that, and those of you fighting against it are warriors defending your territory and protecting your nations. The righteousness of your resistance against the incursion of the Dongsheng Empire is equally beyond question."

"So, when you face the army of the Dongsheng Empire on the battlefield, please do not hesitate, please do not be merciful. Remember, you are resisting invasion, you are without guilt, eradicating invaders and defending West Outer Heaven is your mission, so you need not feel ashamed. Every battle you fight is a just counterattack. Every enemy you kill is the embodiment of evil."

"When you set eyes on the enemy’s fearful gaze, have no concerns, just as long as they do not lay down their arms, then they remain your enemy, and all you need to do is resolutely annihilate them, that is all," Luo’er said. After he finished speaking, people were still exchanging glances, but unlike their earlier whispering, this time they seemed somewhat numb, as if Luo’er’s words hadn’t moved them.

However, all of this was within Luo’er’s expectations. His goal was clear, first and foremost to integrate into the soldiers’ community, and naturally, the best way to do that was to flatter them or, in common parlance, to kiss up to them.

If once wasn’t enough, then he would do it several more times. Such sycophantic words, as long as the soldiers were willing to listen, Luo’er was more than willing to say them.

In terms of speechcraft, he always had his own understanding. Lowering his stance and integrating into the community were his most commonly used methods.

He needed to create an image of himself in the minds of the people as approachable and affable, gradually gaining their acceptance and eventually their support. Only then could he spread his own ideas and transform these people.

Zisu stood at a distance, watching Luo’er’s every move. Despite being his friend, Zisu found it difficult to understand what he was doing.

In her view, all these stands were for their leaders to command and dispatch. Although they had been defeated again and again, when it came to rewarding contributions, it was not the turn of these soldiers. There was no need to please them, they just needed to be commanded in battle.

The repetitive praise from Luo’er was embarrassing for her to the point of making her scalp tingle. She truly couldn’t understand why anyone would enjoy such talk and become mad over it.

However, her understanding was wrong because she did not comprehend the feelings of the lower-ranking soldiers.

Under Luo’er’s repeated praises, Zisu was surprised to find that the previously numb faces of the soldiers were now showing smiles, as they happily listened to Luo’er speak ceaselessly.

She seemed to have forgotten one thing, which is that soldiers are also human beings, and they too need recognition. For a long time, they believed that the outcome of wars was decided by the higher-ups, and the credit or blame always went to the higher-ups.

In their eyes, soldiers were just tools; they were given some rewards when the war was won, but if it was lost, it was none of their business.

It was precisely because of this that the common soldiers’ understanding of war was limited to following the Leader’s orders, without any thoughts of their own. If they won, they might receive some rewards, but losing a battle did not concern them much, at the most, they might lose a few comrades.

But Luo’er was firmly affirming the enormous role these soldiers played in war and admiring their determination to resist against a formidable enemy. For the rarely encouraged soldiers of the Demon Clan, this was deeply satisfying.

So, before long, Luo’er had successfully integrated into the soldiers’ atmosphere and gained their recognition. The speed of his acceptance astonished Zisu.

Modern civilization is more advanced than Ancient Times because it has gone through what Ancient Times had experienced and what it had not, accumulating rich experience in handling and resolving various issues.

Of course, Luo’er’s success could not be detached from his own initiatives. He had always advocated integrating into the group, and from the start, he was gradually lowering his stance, trying to fit into the soldiers’ circle with an attitude that, in Zisu’s view, appeared quite humble.

However, it turned out that the soldiers very much appreciated such an attitude, and far from being repelled by it, they did not look down on him for his humbleness. Instead, they treated him as one of their own.

"Anyone who has anything to say about this war, feel free to speak freely. If you have any suggestions, also tell me, and I will convey them on your behalf," Luo’er called out loudly to the noisy crowd.

The soldiers were in an uproar, and Luo’er could not distinguish who was speaking and who was cursing. Just when he felt somewhat hopeless, a deafening voice came through from the crowd, "What are you doing? Are you inciting everyone to help West Outer Heaven? It’s clear that they can’t hold their own and need our help, yet in your portrayal, it becomes everyone’s merit, everyone’s fault; why should that be?"
