Chapter 1290: Chapter 1283: Flow Redirect Master
"Interesting, if this isn’t magic, then what is it?" Luo’er murmured to himself.
"What are you thinking about?" Zisu asked curiously.
"I’m pondering some profound questions," Luo’er replied.
"Should I continue then?" Zisu asked.
"Yes, please do," Luo’er nodded.
"This second kind, known as Divine Machines," Zisu said, "actually doesn’t have much to do with cultivation. People of this type like to invent and improve devices, especially military devices. It’s one of the few streams among the Nine Streams that isn’t related to cultivation."
"A technical stream, then?" Luo’er pondered.
"As you’ve seen, our firearms, in fact, stem from the techniques of Divine Machine masters. Some Divine Machine masters had fled to the West Outer Heaven and taught us a lot of advanced weapon technologies. Hence, the Demon Clan has quite a favorable impression of the Nine Streams," Zisu explained.
"I see," Luo’er nodded, Zisu’s answer confirming his guess.
The so-called Divine Machines might mainly be scientists that research classical physical sciences. It’s quite remarkable in the magic-infused Otherworld that there are those who deviate from the mainstream of magic to focus on science.
"The third type is known as Flow Redirect. The controversy around Flow Redirect is significant. Some believe it should be part of the Ba Path, while others scoff at it, considering it part of the lower Nine Streams, making this stream quite contentious in Kyushu," Zisu shared.
"Why is it contentious?" Luo’er asked curiously.
"Partly because the techniques it involves are too simple yet potent, and partly because it’s seen as rather devious," Zisu explained, "Flow Redirect, as the name implies, involves cutting off the main Qi channels. Once a cultivator’s main Qi channels are severed, they immediately lose the ability to channel Qi, effectively becoming a normal person. Redirect masters don’t need cultivation; they just need sufficient skill and force to sever a cultivator’s Qi channels, turning a cultivator into a normal person."
"That’s also why Flow Redirect is highly controversial. The debate is mainly between the Royal Dao and the Ba Path. The Royal Dao views it as a despicable and contemptible technique, while the Ba Path believes it’s part of their approach and a pivotal technique for turning the tide of battle. The debate is so intense that Flow Redirect’s position remains ambiguous throughout Kyushu and the entire continent," Zisu said.
"Why is there such a huge controversy?" Luo’er asked.
"Because it’s easy to learn, yet its lethal potential is immense," Zisu said, placing her hand on Luo’er’s chest and demonstrating, "With enough skill and force, I can sever your channels, and you would need the help of other cultivators to unclog the blocked channels and recover. If a cultivator comes across a Flow Redirect master alone, it’s almost certainly a death sentence."
Pausing briefly, she continued, "As I told you before, the Royal Dao values the release of Qi, so these cultivators rarely practice physical combat. After being severed by Flow Redirect, they become defenseless, which is why the Royal Dao greatly fears it."
"Conversely, the Ba Path appreciates Flow Redirect. It emphasizes Qi strengthening; cultivators are already masters of physical combat, so even if their channels are severed, they still have the strength to fight. Most importantly, if a practitioner of the Ba Path also masters Flow Redirect, they can gain a tremendous advantage during battles, so they highly regard it."
Hearing Zisu’s words and seeing her gestures, a realization suddenly struck Luo’er’s mind. He grasped her hand, pressing it against his chest, and earnestly asked, "Is Flow Redirect about severing the channels here?"
"Exactly," Zisu nodded, then stretched out her finger on Luo’er’s chest and explained, "This channel is what connects to the Qi field. If it’s severed here, cultivators become ordinary people."
"I see," Luo’er exclaimed in enlightenment, "That guy is a Flow Redirect master, no wonder he could counter Feng... but wait, that’s not right. His close combat skills are not inferior to Feng’s, and he also releases Qi, so he is both Royal Dao and Ba Path, and also knows Flow Redirect..."
"What’s wrong, you look kind of pale?" Zisu asked, looking at Luo’er with concern.
"Zisu," Luo’er grabbed her hand, his voice tinged with excitement, "is there such a person who practices both Royal Dao and Ba Path, and also possesses some Nine Streams abilities?"
Hearing his question, Zisu blinked her large eyes, her ears fluttering slightly, then she smiled and said, "Of course, there is. Royal Dao and Ba Path are just classifications, not rigid rules. Naturally, there are strong individuals who practice both Royal Dao and Ba Path and are also involved in the Nine Streams."
"I understand," Luo’er released her hand, nodding thoughtfully.
"Luo’er, do you have something you want to say?" Seeing Luo’er release her hand, Zisu inexplicably felt a sense of loss and asked curiously, tilting her head.
"We once encountered a powerful person," Luo’er inhaled deeply and then explained, "He mastered both the Royal Dao and was strong in physical technique, but what impressed me the most was, he also practiced Flow Redirect. Feng engaged him in combat, and within just a few rounds, he had subdued Feng. In the following days, we desperately searched for ways to heal Feng, but no matter what, we couldn’t find one, and she nearly lost her life. I can’t ever forget this incident."
"It seems that your little girl’s identity is not simple," Zisu said subtly after hearing Luo’er’s explanation.
"Why do you say that?" Luo’er asked, puzzled.
"Such powerful individuals are mostly retainers of the Nobility or the elite of the Dongsheng Imperial Court. If he came to capture that little girl, that indicates that her identity is not simple," stated Zisu lightly.
She paused and then asked curiously, "What happened to that guy later?"
"He died," Luo’er shrugged and answered.
"Died, how did he die?" Zisu blinked, asking curiously.
"He was ambushed by me," Luo’er replied nonchalantly.
"Heh heh..." Hearing his response, Zisu was initially stunned, then quickly burst into laughter.
Her smile was captivating, her eyes curving into beautiful crescents, her fluffy large ears trembling continuously.
"Was what I did very despicable?" asked Luo’er.
"No, if it was you guys, an ambush is actually expected," said Zisu, looking at Luo’er and then explaining, "Actually, I also believe that there is no need to be honorable towards the enemy. As long as the enemy can be killed, any method used is acceptable."
"The nature of warfare in the Western Continent has undergone an earth-shattering change; it’s not the era of honorable wars anymore," Luo’er stated.
"We will also adapt, right?" Zisu asked.
"Yes, we will," Luo’er nodded.
"Then should I feel proud, or should I feel sad?" asked Zisu, her face wearing a serene smile and squinting her eyes.
"Hey, you’re digressing again," Luo’er waved his hand in front of her.
"It was you who digressed first," Zisu retorted with a reproachful glare.
"Alright, my bad, I won’t digress. Please continue, Miss Zisu," Luo’er shook his head and said with a wry smile.
"The fourth type, which I mentioned earlier, is the Spirit Control Master," Zisu spoke seriously, "The profession of Spirit Control Master is also very controversial and can only be said to be to his own liking."
"How so?" Luo’er asked eagerly.
"Are you sure you won’t digress again?" Zisu stared at him narrowing her eyes.
"I’ll just ask questions, no digressions," Luo’er gestured.
"Heh heh," Zisu smiled warmly, then continued seriously, "As the name suggests, a Spirit Control Master governs all creatures, can drive tigers and tame wolves. By this standard, Spirit Control Masters should be like Divine Machines, a profession completely unrelated to cultivation. However, the reality is, it’s a profession closely related to cultivation."
