Chapter 1235: Chapter 1228: Everyone Cultivates Immortality

How to describe the woman before me? If the fox-ear tribe girls on the street are enchanting, then Luo’er could only say, the enchantment of the woman before him had seeped into her bones.

The woman was about thirty years old, with a height around one meter seventy, and had a slim figure typical of a mature woman. What left the deepest impression on everyone was the pair of fluffy, large ears on her head. They were so distinctive that no one noticed her face right away.

Her ear fur was orange, unlike the deep brown of Danggui’s, but similar to Danggui, the inside of her ears’ fluff was also white, and even fuller.

After observing her ears, Luo’er then noticed her appearance. She was a very sexy woman, with mature and lazy features. To be frank, her beauty could only be considered above average, incomparable to the girls of the Advance Team, but her aura surpassed theirs by a level.

It was an aura of radiating charm; she only had to glance at you silently for you to feel like she was seducing you. What was most mesmerizing was the beauty mark below the corner of her mouth, which, without a doubt, served as the perfect finishing touch, making her beauty even more stunning.

"I am Linglan, welcome, our guests from the west, for coming all this way to visit my humble home." Seeing Luo’er’s dazed look, the woman smiled coyly, her voice sweet and delicate.

"Oh, my name is Luo’er," Luo’er paused for a moment, then quickly regained his composure and introduced himself awkwardly, "These are my companions."

"You are all welcome here." Linglan smiled and nodded, but her gaze quickly shifted onto Feng.

"Oh, she might look like one of your Easterners, but she grew up in the Western Continent and is our companion too," Luo’er hurriedly explained upon seeing this.

"Mmh, I understand," Linglan nodded and said, "She looks like a Kyushu person but was raised in the Western Continent. She must’ve been moved there through the Method of Moving Shape and Position."

"What does that mean?" Luo’er was startled and asked with wide eyes.

"It’s a secret art of Kyushu that can transport a person to a specific location," Linglan explained.

"Teleportation magic!" Upon hearing Linglan’s description, Tangmo and the others exclaimed in unison.

"But back to the topic, you come from the Western Continent, yet you speak our language. I heard from Danggui that it was the Laurel Family who taught you, is that right?" Linglan looked at Luo’er as she asked.

"Mmh," Luo’er nodded, then pulled Taran over and said, "We know a little about the deeds of the Laurel Family. They were fortunate to escape from West Outer Heaven, settling in the Western Continent, and are probably the only remaining bloodline of the Laurel Family."

"Poor child..." Linglan gazed at Taran, her eyes betraying a hint of sorrow. After a moment of silence, she slowly explained, "The Human Race’s invasions into West Outer Heaven have always been ongoing, only at the time, we did not expect them to go to such lengths. The Laurel Family used to be the largest family in West Outer Heaven, and it’s sad that they ended up fleeing and almost being wiped out."

She paused briefly, then continued, "After the destruction of the Laurel Family, all the Demon Clan of West Outer Heaven understood one thing: if we did not unite, we would be exterminated just like the Laurel Family, which is why we established Abisien."

"Has the Dongsheng Empire’s invasion been ongoing for these several hundred years?" Luo’er asked curiously.

"Your statement is logically problematic," Linglan turned to him and said, "The Dongsheng Empire was established only a little over two hundred years ago. Before it, there was the East Prosperous Empire, which was the predecessor of Dongsheng. But regardless, the Human Race’s invasions of West Outer Heaven have not ceased for hundreds of years."

"Why, why would the Human Race want to invade you?" Zhuyan Yu could not help asking.

"If I say they are invading without any reason, obviously that’s not realistic. In fact, the main reasons for the Human Race’s hostility towards us are two-fold: one, they want to exterminate our Demon Clan; two, they want to monopolize our Source Stones," Linglan explained indifferently.

"Source Stones?" everyone asked in unison.

"It’s this." Linglan said as she took out a pendant, on which hung a magic crystal rich in magical power.

"Isn’t that a Magic Crystal?" Hu Daoke shrugged and said.

"We call it Source Stone," Linglan said.

"So, does West Outer Heaven produce Source Stone in abundance?" Luo’er asked, frowning.

"Yes," Linglan nodded in response, "to the west of Thousand Peaks Cloud Top, Source Stones are produced. Every time they invade, they attempt to take control of these mines; but after their main forces withdraw, we always launch counterattacks and take back the mines."

"What do they want the Source Stones for?" Hu Daoke couldn’t help but ask.

"Cultivation," Linglan replied blandly.

"Cultivation?" Everyone looked at each other in confusion once again.

"Almost the entire Human Race cultivates; they need Source Stones to form their energy cores and also to elevate their realms, so the demand for Source Stones is very high," Linglan explained.

"Then why not just conduct normal trade? Waging war to snatch them seems more costly than buying them, doesn’t it?" Zhuyan Yu asked, puzzled.

"We also thought about normal trade. Historically, we indeed had trade with the Human Race, but it was always short-lived. Most of the time, we are at loggerheads with the Human Race, and war is more common," Linglan explained.

"Why?" Luo’er spread his hands, truly unable to comprehend.

"Because of the second reason," Linglan looked at him again, "they want to exterminate us."

"Why do they want to exterminate you?" Luo’er asked.

Hearing Luo’er’s question, Linglan sighed, fell silent for a moment, and then slowly answered, "Because the Demon Clan cannot form energy cores, the Human Race fears we will contaminate their bloodline, so they’ve sworn to exterminate us. Generally, only about half of the Human Race are qualified to form energy cores, the other half can only hope the next generation will manage; we Demon Clan are fated to not be able to form energy cores, and what’s more frightening to them is that the offspring of a union between the Human Race and Demon Clan will surely be of the Demon Clan and unable to form energy cores."

Pausing again, she let out another sigh and continued, "You might not know, but in the Human Race, being unable to form an energy core means that one will remain an average person for life, unable to become a cultivator. Thus, they are extremely concerned about tainting their bloodline with the Demon Clan, to the point of fear. Therefore, the Human Race and Demon Clan cannot coexist; given the opportunity, they would not hesitate to annihilate us. Given the chance, we would retaliate without mercy."

"I see!" Luo’er finally understood and managed to sort through his thoughts.

It should be said that in Human Race society, cultivators are considered a superior class. If one must find a comparison, it’s somewhat similar to the scholars in a feudal society.

To form an energy core means to become a scholar, which implies becoming a superior person. It’s the only path to altering one’s social class, hence, it’s no wonder that when Fan Jin became a scholar, he was driven to madness.

In the Otherworld, the condition of the East Continent Clan is a bit special; if Luo’er is not mistaken, the standards for cultivators in the East Continent are probably similar to the Mage standards in the Western Continent, both depending on magical aptitude. This fact is inherently unfair, with some people naturally unable to cultivate, while others are born prodigies.

Originally, only half of the Human Race qualify to form energy cores; if they were to intermix with the Demon Clan, they wouldn’t even have that half, which explains why the Human Race harbors such enmity towards the Demon Clan.

In other words, in Human Race society, whether it was the former East Prosperous Empire or the current Dongsheng Empire, both the upper echelons and the lower classes regard cultivation as the only way to change one’s destiny, after all, the Human Race holds martial prowess in high esteem, and what is martial prowess if not cultivation?

So, the Dongsheng Empire invades West Outer Heaven partially for Magic Crystals and also to eradicate the Demon Clan. Whether it’s to annihilate a race or monopolize the mines, the essential need remains the same—to cultivate.

However, Luo’er still had some doubts about these descriptions, such as, considering the Dongsheng Empire highly values martial prowess, why send so many generals to their deaths? It’s known that in the successive wars, the number of generals killed in action is exceptionally high; considering the training costs for each general, practically every invasion of the west has been a loss-making venture.

Thus, there emerges this paradoxically ludicrous situation—the Dongsheng Empire suffers losses, Abisien’s strength is broken, so who benefits from all this?
