Chapter 1214: Chapter 1207: The Limitations of Yuanzi Weapons

Previously, when Cheng Ziang used a group of Kedal metal swords to chop stones, the stones were indeed chopped, but the sword body was severely damaged. It wasn’t the Kedal metal that was damaged, but the sword handle, which became unusable. Otherwise, the hands of the one wielding the sword would be harmed by the backlash from the Kedal metal.

As mentioned before, Kedal metal is a type of metal that can handle soft but not hard treatment. If you force it hard, it can utterly disintegrate you, but if you go soft on it, it is at a loss. Thus, Elves have always mined Kedal metal in this manner, utilizing high temperatures to render it passive, then shaping it.

Generally speaking, once Kedal metal cools down, it regains its reactive nature, but Earth’s scientists had treated these two swords such that all parts, except for the blades, are permanently rendered passive to ensure the safety of the users.

Although he was a combat mage, Feng clearly loved the newly issued weapon, holding it fondly in his hands. His only regret was that these swords didn’t bear the blue and white porcelain rune engravings like the previous one, which made them less aesthetically pleasing.

For this reason, Luo’er specifically consulted with Li Si, allowing Feng to carry two swords, one at his waist and the other on his back.

The reason these two swords were not engraved with runes was that they inherently didn’t require such markings. Previously, runes were engraved on sword bodies to enhance their strength and sharpness.

However, all this could be achieved by the Kedal metal itself, whose reactive nature ensured the sword’s strength and sharpness, so there was no need for additional rune engravings.

After discussions, Luo’er and his team decided that each person would be equipped with a set of Yuanzi weapons, suited to their individual roles, with different rate-of-fire weapons. For example, someone like Hu Daoke, who acted as support, needed a fully automatic Yuanzi gun paired with a machine gun modification kit to assemble into a support machine gun.

For someone like Baiyue, a semi-automatic Yuanzi gun was necessary, complemented with a sniper rifle modification, to maximize her advantage as a sniper. Moreover, since Yuanzi rifles didn’t require accounting for factors such as bullet trajectory and wind speed, it also eliminated the need for complex calibration and trajectory computation.

The rest, like Luo’er and Cheng Ziang, mainly equipped fully automatic Yuanzi guns and carbine conversion kits, used to assemble into carbines for support. Tangmo’s setup was even simpler; he only needed a semi-automatic Yuanzi gun, basically without additional modifications.

Apart from these, Luo’er and Cheng Ziang would also be equipped with a model 47 stockless rifle, and Baiyue would also carry a sniper rifle modified from a Winchester bolt-action rifle. For the others, secondary weapons were also basically conventional firearms, even Feng would be equipped with a pistol.

The reason for equipping both Yuanzi and conventional firearms was mainly because, although Yuanzi weapons appeared superior in performance, they had a critical flaw—insufficient penetration power.

Traditional firearms relied on the bullets they fired for lethality. The higher the kinetic energy of the bullet, the thicker the object it could penetrate, so high-caliber fully loaded bullets often sent both cover and people skyward.

Though Yuanzi weapons had high lethality and didn’t require ballistic calculations, their penetration power was very weak, sometimes even a sheet of paper could obstruct their range. This happened due to the intrinsic principle behind Yuanzi weapons.

As previously mentioned, the principle of Yuanzi weapons involves firing both anchors and bullets; the explosion occurs when the bullet catches up to the anchor, not necessarily requiring a hit on the target.

Assume there’s a sheet of paper between the shooter and target. The anchor fired first would stall upon piercing the paper, possibly allowing the bullet to catch up and detonate right there on the paper.

Remember, it only takes a fraction of a second for the bullet to catch up with the anchor, so any slight delay in the anchor’s motion means it would be caught by the bullet, leading to a collision and explosion.

This principle makes the application of Yuanzi weapons exceedingly stringent. In unobstructed circumstances, a bullet with two Yin particles could never catch up with an anchor that has two Yang particles, hence the range could be virtually unlimited.

One might even say that the farther the distance, the stronger the penetration, because the gap between the anchor and the bullet could be infinitely extended, providing ample time to breach obstacles.

But if there is an obstacle between the shooter and the target, then the anchor is easily caught by the bullet, leading to detonation.

Based on this principle, the Advance Team couldn’t solely equip themselves with Yuanzi weapons. Yuanzi weapons fundamentally belong to a new concept of weaponry, demanding very specific battlefield conditions and challenging criteria for the user, unlike traditional firearms that are more tolerant of rugged handling.

However, it should also be noted that Yuanzi weapons, in the environment of the Otherworld, have an advantage that traditional weapons cannot match, which is unlimited ammunition. With this advantage, other flaws can generally be overlooked.

From the Magic Crystal Revolver to the Magic Crystal Grenade, then to the Rune Swords, and the Yuanzi weapons, the history of the Advance Team’s weaponry can be said to be a history of the headquarters’ weapons gradually becoming magical and localized.

After collecting the weapons, Li Si gave the team members a day off to handle their own affairs and prepare to board the airboat for Helros, heading to the mysterious and unknown Eastern Continent.

As he was about to leave, Luo’er first visited the library in Lipei, where he found Xia Yue reading.

Since the opening of the Otherworld Gate, Luo’er had seldom had the opportunity to meet with Xia Yue, as everyone was busy with their own tasks – Luo’er was busy learning to integrate into the headquarters, while Xia Yue was patiently leading the Elf Planet Project.

Although she is a god, many times, when facing debates, she seemed somewhat at a loss. The environment on Earth is different from that of the Otherworld, and although Xia Yue knew about Earth, that was during the Ancestor Era. Back then, not to mention humans, there weren’t even dinosaurs on Earth.

Therefore, many times, she needed to patiently listen to the experts present and make accurate judgments.

Currently, Earthlings still centered around nations for the distribution of interests, not focusing on the welfare of all humanity, which greatly disappointed Xia Yue.

But she also understood that Earth, compared to the Otherworld, was only a few hundred years ahead, and during the initial wars of the Otherworld, the seemingly advanced Earthly armies were still decisively defeated by the Otherworld Allied Army. It was natural for Earth during this period to still focus on nations.

"Lady Xia Yue, it’s been a long time." Upon entering the library, Luo’er greeted her respectfully.

"How long has it been since you last came to see me?" Hearing Luo’er’s call, Xia Yue closed her book and then turned her head with a tone of complaint.

"Uh, this..." Xia Yue’s expression, a mix of a smile and grievance, left Luo’er somewhat at a loss for words.

"Just kidding. We’re all busy with our things after all," Xia Yue chuckled, then turned back, her back facing him as she asked, "You didn’t come here just to greet me, did you?"

"Yes, I have a few questions I wanted to ask you, if you don’t mind..." Luo’er nodded hesitantly.

"Ask if you have questions, I don’t want to answer these pointless pauses." Xia Yue responded.

"I wanted to ask if Tana is still controlling the world now?" Luo’er asked tentatively.

"Using ’control’ isn’t quite appropriate. It would be better to say that Tana is just maintaining the order of the world. As for her control, that’s been taken away by me a long time ago." Xia Yue said, continuously staring at her fingers.

"You mentioned before that you tied part of Tana to me, which means I can summon Tana anytime, anywhere—is that right?" Luo’er continued asking.

"It seems like you haven’t used it even once, have you?" Xia Yue asked back with a teasing tone.

"Uh, I really didn’t know what I should say after summoning her..." Luo’er answered awkwardly.

"Just say whatever you want, like how you would treat a girl. Tana is so affectionate, I think she would also respond to your feelings if you truly care for her," Xia Yue said smilingly.
