Otherworld Advance Team
Chapter 120 - 116: Galan

Chapter 120: Chapter 116: Galan

After a brief respite in the small town, the caravan set off again towards Galan. The weather was getting increasingly cold, so Luo’er and the others avoided the knights and secretly purchased some thick leather winter clothes from the merchants. The warmth they felt after changing into the clothes was comforting.

On their journey, they passed through a village formerly occupied by the rebels. The village had been ravaged by the rebels, and the houses were all burnt to the ground. Bones of the deceased were scattered all over the village. When the Royal Army recaptured the village, it held no strategic value, so they abandoned it, leaving the dead to rot and turn into skeletons.

Tangmo, petrified by the sight of bones lining the road, walked alongside Luo’er, tightly gripping his sleeve. Baiyue, though not showing any emotion, stuck to Luo’er’s other side, tightly pulling on his cloak.

"These are not rebels, they are just bandits!" The sight of this carnage evoked anger even in Hu Daoke, who was usually cheerful, and he cursed at Cheng Ziang next to him.

"Even bandits are more civilized than them!" Cheng Ziang said, unbothered.

After passing through this abandoned village, the caravan continued on. After about ten days, they finally saw the walls of Galan, the capital of Masya. Although this wasn’t part of the original battle plan, they didn’t want to miss this blatant opportunity.

The capital of Masya, Galan, was built above two rivers amidst the mountains. The terrain wasn’t particularly uneven. The Ebia River flowed from the northwest to the southeast through the city, while another river originated from the Winter Mountains in the northeast. Both rivers intersected here, dividing Galan into three parts. The urban center was located on the northern bank, the southeast bank was the primary agricultural area supplying food for Galan.

After crossing an ancient and colossal stone bridge from the southwestern bank, they finally arrived at Galan, the capital of Masya, under a slight snowfall which painted everything white.

The party followed the white stone road, advancing towards the Masya Royal Palace halfway up the hill. Galan’s social class structure was quite distinct. The lower one’s social status, the closer they lived to the river on the plain. Conversely, the higher one’s status, the further uphill they lived.

The palace of Galan was situated halfway up the mountain, about a twenty-minute walk from the streets at the base of the mountain. The top of the mountain was the church district, where a splendid church building stood tall, serving as a landmark for Galan.

Climbing the slippery stone path, they finally arrived at the palace of Galan. It shared architectural similarities with Gothic structures such as the one Luo’er had glimpsed at the Sacred Heart Magic Academy before.

The palace, built from large, heavy, dark stone blocks, emanated a sense of solemnity as one looked up from its base. The palace and city wall ensured that even if Galan were to fall, it would be almost impossible for enemies to capture the royal palace.

Once Melia, accompanied by the head knight, reached the palace, she instructed her maid to arrange accommodations for Luo’er and the others in the auxiliary palace, then hurried towards the Consultation Hall of the palace. There, she was expected by her father, King Varen Alarafasya III of Masya.

"Father..." Melia greeted upon entering the Consultation Hall, noticing the Minister as well, she respectfully said, "Mr. Fergus."

"You’re back, Melia." Varen looked pleased to see her, his chubby face beaming with happiness.

"Yes, Father." answered Melia, obediently.

"The Otland’s army is already on Masya’s land, and Church Court mages are on their way. You’ve done well, Melia." Varen praised her with a smile.

"Thank you for your praise, Father. This is merely my duty as a princess," Melia responded with respect and humility.

"Hehe," Varen and Minister Fergus exchanged a glance. With an indecipherably strange look on his face, he chuckled and inquired, "never mind that. How is your acquaintance with the crown prince of Otland progressing? Is he satisfied with you?"

"Father, do you insist on marrying me off to Otland?" Melia immediately frowned upon the mention of the arranged marriage and questioned him in an unfamiliar tone.

"Melia, marrying you off to Otland is not just for the sake of our two countries’ relationship. It’s for the sake of Masya," Varen sighed deeply, saying, "I understand your concerns. You have always cared about the matters of our nation. But, you are a woman. Managing our country is the duty of your brother. You should marry into Otland with a peace of mind and become their crown princess. When the crown prince becomes king, you’ll be the queen of Otland."

"I do not wish for such a life!" Melia said softly, gritting her teeth and clenching her fist, she muttered in a volume that only she could hear.

"What’s wrong?" Varen asked, noticing her gloominess.

"Just feeling slightly tired," Melia replied, deflated.

"Then you should retire and rest," Varen waved her off.

"Before I do, there is one more thing I must mention." Melia didn’t leave immediately but resumed speaking.

"What is it?" Varen inquired.

"On our return journey, we were ambushed by the rebels," Melia stated.

"You’re alright, aren’t you?" Varen asked, concerned.

"No worries," Melia shook her head and continued, "Luckily, we got the help of an adventurer team. They helped us drive away the rebels."

"Oh, seems the God of Light is still on our side." Varen breathed a sigh of relief, and then continued, "In that case, we should reward the adventurer team."

"Yes," Melia nodded and continued, "They escorted me all the way back to Galan, therefore, I’m requesting that my father grant them a reward."

"Of course, of course, they should indeed be rewarded. So, where are they?" Varen asked.

"I have arranged them to stay in the palace, and they can meet father tomorrow." Melia answered.

"Indeed, take good care of them. They saved my beloved daughter, I want to reward them well." Varen said, revealing a hearty smile. Fergus, who was by the side, seemed to have been infected and also followed up with a laugh.

"Beloved daughter, huh!" Melia didn’t laugh out. Upon hearing several words from Varen’s talk, she couldn’t help but sneer in her heart.

At this time, Luo’er didn’t know about what had happened in the Consultation Hall. They were arranged in a room inside the palace. A few fire basins were set up in the corridor which made the entire room warm. The three men staying in the room even started to feel the heat.

"Refreshing!" Hu Daoke lay on the soft and comfortable bed, stroked his head in a flaunting way, and said with contentment. After entering the room, the damp clothes they wore began to steam.

Luo’er sat on the bed and did some calculations with his fingers. It took them a full month and a half to walk to Galan since they left Holy Heart City. Looking back, it was indeed a tough journey.

The Advance Team performing missions in the Otherworld, the most frequently experienced thing was not fighting or schemes, but endless travels. Luo’er roughly calculated that since they entered the Otherworld in August, most of their time was spent on traveling. Half of the remaining time was spent chilling around, and less than half of the time was spent on performing missions.

Since entering the Otherworld, Luo’er remembered clearly about how many rounds he had shot. But this was good too, after all, people could die from fighting, and he didn’t want to see any accidents happen to anyone in his team.

Cheng Ziang was standing in front of the window with his knife. He stared at the outside through the colored glass window, seemingly lost in thoughts. Hu Daoke stretched and seeing Cheng Ziang’s cold face, he couldn’t help but tease: "Yo, acting like Ximen Chuixue?"

"Hmph!" Cheng Ziang snorted coldly and ignored him.

"Or Beichen A Knife?" Hu Daoke continued to ask.

"Hmph!" Cheng Ziang still ignored him.

"Can’t be Dongfang Bubai, right?" As Hu Daoke spoke, he showed a mocking smile.

"Hmm," Cheng Ziang turned his head and glared at him, then coldly said, "Don’t blame me when I retaliate later!"

"Retaliate, huh? You think you’re something! Come on, let’s have a go!" Hu Daoke jumped up from the bed and started taunting him by waving his hand.

"You two..." Luo’er rolled his eyes, no longer having the energy to deal with these two jokers.

Just as Hu Daoke was gesticulating theatrically at Cheng Ziang, a light knock came from the door. Luo’er went forward to open the door, finding a palace maid standing respectfully outside.

"What is it?" Luo’er asked.

The maid bowed slightly, then respectfully said: "Relaying princess’s instruction, you will meet His Majesty tomorrow."

"Thank you for the message." Luo’er also slightly bowed his body to show respect. It has to be said, the maids in the palace were of much higher quality than those elsewhere. As a half-elf, Luo’er did not see any disdain in her eyes. She maintained a distanced demeanor throughout.

After shutting the door, Luo’er scratched his head. Tomorrow, they would be meeting Masya Kingdom’s supreme ruler. This was most likely the first important figure they had encountered since their arrival in Otherworld, which made him a bit excited.

"Hey, hey, hey, pressure points, whether you’re Ximen Chuixue or Dongfang Bubai, you are under my control now. I am the number one martial arts master!" In the room, Hu Daoke was acting extremely childish and out of character, messing with a dazed Cheng Ziang.

"Childish, psycho, idiot, release me at once!" Cheng Ziang held his knife and said coldly with an impatient face.

Seeing the state of the two, Luo’er knew he couldn’t rely on them, so he could only lean on his palm, thinking about how he could plead his case to the King of Masya by himself.
